I cast on 420 stitches. I worked rows 1 and of A1. On row 3, the stitches do not come out even at the end of round, I have 2 stitches left over. Should the row come out even at the end?
05.10.2022 - 18:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Beverly, A.1 is worked over 21 stitches so that you should repeat 20 times the diagram - add a marker between each repeat can help you keeping the correct number of stitches in each repeat and making sure you get the correct number of stitches worked together/yarn overs. Happy knitting!

The instructions say "Slip sleeve edges on to same circular needle size 3 mm as body where armholes were cast off". After this the space for the arm to go through is only 6 stitches wide for the armhole in the small size! Have I understood something wrong?
06.08.2022 - 10:01DROPS Design answered:
Dear Netta, the cast-off stitches for the armhole only give a small space in the body but the actual space for the arm to pass through is the sleeve, that is, the space inside the sleeve edges, so that is big enough. Happy knitting!

Are the sleeve edges worked in the round or back and forth? When they are on the circular needles with the body it’s a tight squeeze to knit.
16.06.2022 - 14:18DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ava, sleeve edges are worked on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 - when working them together with the body on yoke, you can take help from another circular needles/or dpn if required, the first rows might be somewhat tricky but after some cm it will work fine. Happy knitting!

Spring rain top, A5 row 3 , what does that symbol stand for? There isn’t a description of it anywhere. Is it knit or purl and if so which color?
16.06.2022 - 04:46DROPS Design answered:
Hi Ava, this symbol stands for 'knit with shoreline'. The graphic symbol may not be very clear. Happy knitting!

GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. DECREASE TIP-1: To calculate how to decrease evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 144 stitches) and divide stitches by number of decreases to be done (e.g. 18) = 8. In this example knit approx. every 7th and 8th stitch together. DECREASE TIP-2 (applies to sides of body): Begin 12 stitches before marker and knit 2 together, knit 20 (marker thread is in the middle of these 20 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). RAGLAN: Decrease for raglan in every transition between sleeves and body. Begin 2 stitches before marker thread and knit 2 together, marker thread, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- TOP: Body is worked in the round on circular needle, bottom up. Work sleeve edges in the round on double pointed needles. BODY: Cast on somewhat loosely 399-420-462-483-525-567 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm / US 2.5 with off white. Work A.1 in the round (= 19-20-22-23-25-27 repetitions of 21 stitches). When A.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 361-380-418-437-475-513 stitches on needle. Work A.2 in the round (= 19-20-22-23-25-27 repetitions of 19 stitches). When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, work A.3 in the round (= 19-20-22-23-25-27 repetitions of 19 stitches). When A.3 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 323-340-374-391-425-459 stitches on needle. Now work A.4 in the round but work last round in A.4 decrease 5-0-10-1-3-5 stitches evenly in addition to decreases in the diagram – READ DECREASE TIP-1. After A.4 there are 280-300-320-344-372-400 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round and 1 marker thread after 140-150-160-172-186-200 stitches (= in the sides). Then work in stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE. When piece measures 8 cm / 3⅛", decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads - READ DECREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 1 cm / ⅜" 20 times in total in each side = 200-220-240-264-292-320 stitches. Work until piece measures approx. 40 cm / 15¾" in all sizes. Work next round as follows: bind off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches for armhole, work 94-104-112-124-136-148 stitches in stockinette stitch (= front piece), bind off 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches for armhole, work 94-104-112-124-136-148 stitches in stockinette stitch (= back piece) and bind off the remaining 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches for armhole. Put piece aside and work the sleeve edges. SLEEVE EDGE: Cast on 72-82-92-96-100-104 stitches on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with off white. Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Work next round as follows: bind off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches, knit 66-76-84-88-90-92 stitches and bind off the remaining 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches. Put piece aside and work another sleeve edge the same way. YOKE: Slip sleeve edges on to same circular needle size 3 mm / US 2.5 as body where armholes were bound off (without working the stitches first) = 320-360-392-424-452-480 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker thread in all transitions between sleeves and body = 4 marker threads. Work stripes in the round as shown in A.5. AT THE SAME TIME on fifth round in A.5 (i.e. a knitted round) decrease for RAGLAN - see explanation above (= 8 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4th round 6-6-6-8-8-9 times and every other round 16-20-24-24-27-29 times = 144-152-152-168-172-176 stitches on needle. After last decrease for raglan knit 1 round. Switch to a short circular needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5, knit 1 round while decreasing 18-26-26-32-36-40 stitches evenly = 126-126-126-136-136-136 stitches. Purl 1 round, knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Then loosely bind off by knitting. ASSEMBLY: Sew the opening under the sleeves. |
