Hi, oh my goodness I am so confused by this pattern. I want to knit the largest size so I cast on 4 stitches. I don’t know where to make my increases and how many times? Do I cast on 8 stitches only once or on the end of every knit row and increase by only 1 stitch 3 times on the purl side? Thank you. Gail

Dear Gail, you are working slippers lengthwise - see chart- (A-B = towards heel) this means you will cast on at the end of each row from RS = towards toe (on the left side, seen from RS): 2 sts 7 times and 3 sts 1 time and at the same time, increase at the end of every row from WS = towards heel (on the right side, seen from RS): 2 sts 3 times, 3 sts 2 times and 8 sts 1 time. Can this help?

Hej Vilde, Se må skitsen nederst i opskriften, her ser du i hvilken retning tøflen strikkes.

Buon lavoro!

I have managed with great difficulty to make my first slipper but now I can't figure out how to assemble it... the video doesn't help. Do I fold the slipper lengthwise so you end up with a gigantic length and then sewing the toe is not a nice shape... or do I fold it in half where I put the markers... none of it makes sense and I have about 20 orders for xmas
05.12.2019 - 08:28DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Whittley, lay piece as shown in measurement chart (see arrow showing knitting direction), fold double (along the dotted line in chart) and sew together mid upper foot: from the toe (left side on the chart) towards opening on foot (until last st cast on from RS (on D) and last st cast off at the end of slipper), pick up sts along edge ((not along A nor B) then sew A + B (= back side on slipper) together. Hope this helps! Happy knitting!

Felted slippers in DROPS Snow.
DROPS 104-4 |
||||||||||||||||
Pattern instructions SLIPPER: The slipper is worked in one with a seam mid front and mid back, beginning at the top of instep (see sketch – D) Cast on 4-4-5-4 stitches on needle size 8 mm / US 11 with dark gray Snow. Work in stockinette stitch. Increase in each side by casting on new stitches at the end of every row as follows: Right side seen from RS (towards heel): 2 stitches 3 times, 3 stitches 2 times, 5-6-7-8 stitches 1 time. Left side seen from RS (towards toe): 2 stitches 5-6-6-7 times, 1 stitch 3 times. After all increases are done there are 34-37-39-41 stitches on needle. Continue in stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When piece measures 22-24-24-25 cm/8¾"-9½"-9½"-9¾", insert a marker in the piece = mid under foot. Now work the other side of slipper with bind offs instead of cast ons. Begin bind off when piece is the same length from marker as from last increase in each side and up to marker - NOTE! bind offs in right side begin when 2-3-3-4 bind offs have been done in the left side. Bind off at beg of every row as follows: Right side seen from RS (from heel): 5-6-7-8 stitches 1 time, 3 stitches 2 times, 2 stitches 3 times Left side seen from RS (from toe): 1 stitch 3 times, 2 stitches 5-6-6-7 times = 4-4-5-4 stitches remain. Bind off. ASSEMBLY: Fold the slipper mid under foot and sew seam mid on top of foot (including cast on and bind off edge). Pick up approximately 55 to 60 stitches on needle size 8 mm / US 11 around the opening at the top (it is important to pick up enough stitches to avoid a tight edge). Knit 2 rows. Bind off. Sew seam mid back (A + B) in outer loops of edge stsitch. Knit another slipper. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. Put on the slippers and shape it to the correct size while it is still wet. At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
