I think there is a mistake in the instructions for the collar. After 1 row yellow I think you should go to row 4 of pattern 5.

Change to larger circular needles and cast on 3 sts at the center front. (These 3 sts plus the 2 edge sts constitute the steek and are not knit into the pattern.) Join and knit Pattern 1. After Pattern 1 knit the rest with Pattern 2. Continue to knit back and forth on the needles and at the same time put sts on the holder on each side every other row: 4-4-4 (5-6-6) sts 4 times. The work measures approximately 13-17-19 (20-24-28) cm [5-⅛" - 6.75" - 7.5" (7-⅞" - 9.5" - 11")]. Repeat along the right front, but after 0.5 cm [0.25"] make 5-5-5 (6-6-6) buttonholes evenly distributed on the row. (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row.) Place the top buttonhole 2 sts from the edge, the bottom buttonhole 1 cm [3/8"] from the edge (remember to make corresponding buttonholes on the folding edge). On the next row crochet as follows: * 2 sc in the 1st sc, 1 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * - * throughout the row for 6 increases. 18 sc. Work the next row as follows: * 2 sc in the 1st sc, 2 sc.* Repeat from * - * throughout the row. Inc in this fashion every row, but add 1 sc in between each time 2 sc are worked in one sc. Continue increasing until the work measures 4-4-5 (5-6-6) cm [1.5" - 1.5" - 2" (2" - 2-⅜" - 2-⅜")] from the center. Inc every other row until the work measures 7.5 - 8.5 - 9 (10.5 - 10.5 - 11) cm [3" - 3.25" - 3.5" (4.25" - 4.25" - 4-⅜")] from the center. On the next row, inc to 46-48-50 (54-58-62) sc. Crochet the brim as follows: Row 1: * 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * - * throughout the row. Rows 2, 3 and 4: Crochet without increasing. Repeat these four rows until the brim measures 5-10 cm [2" - 4"] or to desired length. Finish with 1 slip st in the first sc (if you finish with the 3rd or 4th row the brim will look nicest!).
