------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn-overs twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn-overs twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn-over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that is on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 6 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting 1 through both the front and back loops of the yarn over (2 stitches) to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 buttonholes with 6½-7-7½-7½-7-7-7½ cm = 2½"-2¾"-2⅞"-2⅞"-2¾"-2¾"-2⅞" between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stockinette stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 99-101-107-107-109-115-117 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and 2 strands DROPS Kid-Silk or 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work as follows: From the wrong side: Work 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD read explanation above, purl until there are 7 stitches left and work 7 band-stitches. From the right side: Work 7 band-stitches, knit until there are 7 stitches left and work 7 band-stitches. From the wrong side: Work 7 band-stitches, purl until there are 7 stitches left and work 7 band-stitches. Continue as follows: From the right side: Work 7 band-stitches, rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1, work 7 band-stitches. From the wrong side: Work 7 band-stitches, rib (purl 1, knit 1) until there are 8 stitches left, purl 1, work 7 band-stitches. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows of rib. Insert 1 marker inside one of the bands (mid-front). The piece is measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and each marker inserted into a stitch (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 23-23-25-25-25-27-27 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 9 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 31-33-35-35-37-39-41 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 9 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 23-23-25-25-27-27 stitches left (= right front piece). Now increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches as follows – read the explanation above describing how to increase: ROW 1 (right side): Work stockinette stitch with the bands as before, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches) – work the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before (remember to work the yarn-overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 16-19-22-22-24-23-22 times (32-38-44-44-48-46-44 rows worked) = 227-253-283-283-301-299-293 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before (remember to work the yarn-overs as described under raglan). ROW 3 (right side): Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before, increasing for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4; do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (wrong side): Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before (remember to work the yarn-overs as described under raglan). Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 5-5-4-6-6-9-11 times (20-20-16-24-24-36-44 rows worked: 5-5-4-6-6-9-11 increases in height on the sleeves and 10-10-8-12-12-18-22 increases in height on the front and back pieces = 287-313-331-355-373-407-425 stitches. A total of 26-29-30-34-36-41-44 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 21-24-26-28-30-32-33 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue working until the yoke measures 22-24-25-29-30-34-37 cm = 8¾"-9½"-9¾"-11⅜"-11¾"-13⅜"-14½" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 50-53-56-60-62-69-72 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 51-57-61-65-69-73-75 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), work 85-93-97-105-111-123-131 stitches (= back piece), place the next 51-57-61-65-69-73-75 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), work the last 50-53-56-60-62-69-72 stitches as before (= front piece). On the next row from the right side, begin the rib AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-20-22-22-26-26-32 stitches evenly on the first row (do not increase across the bands) = 215-231-247-263-281-307-331 stitches. Work as follows: Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP, as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2 times every 2nd round, then decrease 2 stitches 0-1-3-4-7-8-9 times every 0-3-3-3-2-2-2 cm = 0"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾"-¾"-¾" = 53-57-59-61-61-63-65 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-38-37-34-32-29-26 cm = 15¼"-15"-14½"-13⅜"-12½"-11⅜"-10¼" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches evenly on the first round = 60-64-66-68-70-72-74 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off slightly loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 42-41-40-37-36-33-30 cm = 16½"-16⅛"-15¾"-14½"-14¼"-13"-11¾" from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
