For sleeves it says bind off 6sts mid under arm & complete piece back & forth on needle. I don’t understand this, sorry.

Dear June, at the start of the round (that will be the sleeves middle, under the armpit, you cast of 6 stitches to shape the sleeve, and then instead of knitting on the round, you knit back and forth. Happy Knitting.

Gauge: 22 m x 30 rows on needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 and stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4" x 4". Garter sts (on circular needle): 1st round: P, 2nd round: K. Garter sts (back and forth): knit all rows. Pattern: See diagram M.1 and M.2. Diagram is showing every row in pattern seen from RS. Back and front piece: Cast on 132-144-156 (168-180-192) sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 in blue. Work 4 rounds in garter sts and then continue with 2 repeats of diagram M.2. K1 round at the same time increasing 4-0-4 (0-4-0) sts evenly on round = 128-144-152 (168-176-192) sts. Now insert a marker each side and finish the piece in diagram M.1 - start at the arrow for appropriate size and work pattern over sts on front piece, start at the appropriate arrow again and work pattern over sts on back piece. Remember the knitting gauge. When piece measures 22-25-29 (30-32-37) cm / 8¾"-9¾"-11⅜" (11¾"-12½"-14½") bind off 3 sts for armhole each side of both markers (= 6 sts for each armhole). Complete front and back pieces separately. Front piece: = 58-66-70 (78-82-90) sts. Bind off for armholes in beg of each row, each side: 2 sts 2-3-2 (2-2-3) times, 1 st 3-2-2 (3-2-3) times = 44-50-58 (64-70-72) sts on needle. When piece measures 29-33-38 (41-44-49) cm / 11⅜"-13"-15" (16⅛"-17¼"-19¼") bind off the middle 10-10-12 (12-14-14) sts for neck and work shoulder separately. Continue and bind off to shape the neckline in beg of every row from neck: 2 sts 2-2-3 (3-3-4) times, 1 st 2-3-1 (2-2-2) times. When piece measures 33-37-42 (46-49-54) cm / 13"-14½"-16½" (18"-19¼"-21¼") bind off remaining sts. Back: = 58-66-70 (78-82-90) sts. Bind off for armholes as done for the front piece. = 44-50-58 (64-70-72) sts on needle. Continue as follows: The 3 smallest sizes: Work until piece measures 29-33-38 cm / 11⅜"-13"-15", divide the piece mid back for split and finish each side separately. Continue in pattern with 1 st towards the split in garter sts until piece measures 32-36-41 cm / 12½"-14¼"-16⅛" and now bind off 11-12-13 sts for neck mid back. Bind off remaining sts when piece measures 33-37-42 cm / 13"-14½"-16½". The 3 largest sizes: Work until piece measures (45-48-53) cm / (17¾"-19"-21"), now bind off the middle (28-30-34) sts for neck and finish each side separately. Continue in pattern and bind off remaining sts when piece measures (46-49-54) cm / (18"-19¼"-21¼"). Sleeve: Cast on 32-32-40 (40-48-48) sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 in blue. Work garter sts for 3-3-3 (4-4-4) cm / 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛" (1½"-1½"-1½"). Continue in diagram M.1 – beg pattern mid under arm for all sizes by the arrow for size 6/9 months. At the same time when piece measures 6-6-6 (8-8-8) cm / 2½"-2½"-2½" (3"-3"-3") inc 2 sts mid under arm, repeat inc as follows: sizes 6/9 months: Every 6th round. Size 12/18 months: Alternating every 5th and 6th round. Size 2 years: Every 9 th round. Size 3/4 years: Alternating every 4th and 5 th round. Size 5/6 years: Alternately every 6 th and 7th round. Size 7/8 years: Every 7th round - a total of 6-8-6 (13-11-11) times = 44-48-52 (66-70-70) sts. When piece measures 19-21-25 (28-32-35) cm / 7½"-8¼"-9¾" (11"-12½"-13¾") bind off 6 sts mid under arm and complete the piece back and forth on needle. Bind off for sleeve cap in beg of every row, each side: 3 sts 0-0-0 (1-1-1) times, 2 sts 1-1-2 (2-2-2) times, 1 st 6-6-4 (2-1-3) times, 2 sts 1-1-2 (2-3-3) times, 3 sts 1-1-1 (2-2-2) times. Bind off remaining sts, sleeve measures approx 26-28-32 (35-39-43) cm / 10¼"-11"-12½" (13¾"-15¼"-17"). Assembly: Sew the shoulder seems. Pick up approx 55-80 sts around the neck (from mid back on the 3 smallest sizes) on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 in blue and work in garter st for 3 cm / 1⅛", bind off. Sew on the sleeves. The 3 smallest sizes: With hook size 3 mm / C and blue crochet sc around the split at the back – crochet 2 loops for the button holes = 5 chain stitches – evenly distributed along the right side of the split. Sew on the buttons. |
