GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. MEASUREMENT TIP: Because of the weight of the yarn make all measurements whilst the garment is hanging, otherwise it will be too long when worn. PLEATS: See diagrams M.1 and M.2. Diagrams show the pattern from RS. INCREASING TIP (applies to collar): Inc for collar inside the 2 outermost sts on front band. Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. On return row work YO into back of loop to avoid a hole. --------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- JACKET: Worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front. BODY PIECE: Cast on 194-234-246-286-322-342 sts on circular needle size 4 mm / US 6 with 2 threads Alpaca. Work 2 sts each side towards mid front with 4 threads – use a small extra ball each side. Work 4 rows GARTER ST - see above. Change to circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 and continue in stockinette st with 10 garter sts each side for front band. When piece measures 30 cm / 11¾" for all sizes - See MEASUREMENT TIP - work next row as follows from RS: 10 garter sts (= front band), K 5-5-6-6-7-8 sts, M.1 a total of 5-7-7-9-10-10 times across the row (= 30-42-42-54-60-60 sts dec to 15-21-21-27-30-30 sts), K 16-12-16-13-16-24 sts, M.2 a total of 5-7-7-9-10-10 times across the row, K 12-12-14-12-16-18 sts, M.1 a total of 5-7-7-9-10-10 times across the row, K 16-12-16-13-16-24 sts, M.2 a total of 5-7-7-9-10-10 times across the row, and finish with K 5-5-6-6-7-8 sts and 10 garter sts (= front band) = 134-150-162-178-202-222 sts. Insert a marker 38-42-45-49-55-60 sts in from each side (= 58-66-72-80-92-102 sts between markers on back piece). Change to circular needle size 4 mm / US 6 and work 8 rows garter st (first row = K from WS). READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SECTION BEFORE CONTINUING! Change back to circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 and continue in stockinette st with front bands in garter st as before. When piece measures 35-35-36-36-36-36 cm / 13¾"-13¾"-14¼"-14¼"-14¼"-14¼" inc 1 st each side of both markers (= 4 inc sts). Repeat the inc on every 1.5-1.5-1.5-1.5-2-2 cm / ½"-½"-½"-½"-¾"-¾" a total of 7 times. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 37 cm / 14½" work 1 st extra in garter st for front band (i.e. number of sts remain the same, but no of garter sts on front band inc and no of stockinette sts dec). Repeat this on every 3 cm / 1⅛" a total of 9-9-10-11-11-12 times. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 39 cm / 15¼" inc 1 st towards mid front for collar – see INCREASING TIP. Repeat the inc on every 3 cm / 1⅛" a total of 10 times. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 46-47-48-49-50-51 cm / 18"-18½"-19"-19¼"-19¾"-20" - REMEMBER MEASUREMENT TIP – bind off 6 sts each side for armhole (i.e. 3 sts each side of marker) and complete each piece separately. BACK PIECE: = 66-74-80-88-100-110 sts. Cat off for armhole each side at the beg of every row: 2 sts 0-1-2-3-5-6 times and 1 st 1-2-2-3-4-6 times = 64-66-68-70-72-74 sts. When piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm / 25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛" bind off the middle 18-18-20-22-22-24 sts for neck and complete each shoulder separately. Bind off 1 st on neckline on next row = 22-23-23-23-24-24 sts left on shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm / 26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30". RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Continue to include more sts in front band and inc for collar as before. AT THE SAME TIME bind off for armhole at the beg of every row from the side as described for back piece. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm / 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" work shortened rows on front band as follows: * work 2 rows on the first 15 sts on needle, work 6 rows on all sts *, repeat from *-* until finished measurements. When piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm / 26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30" bind off 22-23-23-23-24-24 sts at beg of row from the side for shoulder = 29-29-30-31-31-32 sts left on collar. Work remaining sts on row. Now continue with shortened rows on collar as follows (first row = RS): * K 2 rows on 15 sts, K 2 rows on all sts *, repeat from *-* until collar measures 7-7-8-8-9-9 cm / 2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½" (measured on the shorter side) from shoulder. Bind off loosely. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Like right front piece, but mirrored. SLEEVE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 50-52-54-56-58-60 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on circular needle size 4 mm / US 6 with 2 threads Alpaca. Work 10 rows garter st. Change to circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 and continue in stockinette st with 1 edge st each side, AT THE SAME TIME inc 6 sts evenly on first row = 56-58-60-62-64-66 sts. When piece measures 8 cm / 3⅛" inc 1 st each side on every 7-7-5-4.5-3.5-2.5 cm / 2¾"-2¾"-2"-1¾"-1¼"-⅞" a total of 4-4-5-6-7-9 times = 64-66-70-74-78-84 sts. When piece measures 34-33-32-33-31-30 cm / 13⅜"-13"-12½"-13"-12¼"-11¾" – NOTE: less for the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulder – bind off for sleeve cap each side at the beg of every row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3-3-3-3-4-4 times, 1 st 0-2-3-3-3-4 times, then 2 sts each side until piece measures 40-41-41-42-42-42 cm / 15¾"-16⅛"-16⅛"-16½"-16½"-16½", now bind off 3 sts 1 time each side and bind off remaining sts. Piece measures approx 41-42-42-43-43-43 cm / 16⅛"-16½"-16½"-17"-17"-17". ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams inside 1 edge st and set in sleeves. Sew collar tog mid back, sew in outer loops of sts, and sew collar to neck on back piece. TIE STRING: Crochet a ch-chain measuring approx 50 cm / 20" on left front piece – beg with 1 sc in st on jacket in line with the garter sts on waist. Crochet a similar chain for tie string at the side on right front piece – these are tied tog. Now crochet a chain at the front on right front piece and one on the inside at the side on left front piece – these are tied tog to keep jacket in place. |
