------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over (all increases are shown in the diagrams), which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). INCREASE TIP for transition to rib: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid-back, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 104-108-112-116-124-128-132 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Karisma or DROPS Saga. Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Knit 4 rounds (rolled edge). Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 3 and purl 1). Work stockinette stitch for 4-4-4-4-4½-4½-4½ cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-1⅝". The round begins mid-back. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round; the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker between 2 stitches (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 18-19-20-21-23-24-25 stitches (= approx. half back piece), insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 17 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 35-37-39-41-45-47-49 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 17 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 before the next stitch, there are 17-18-19-20-22-23-24 after the last marker (= approx. half back piece). Work stockinette stitch and PATTERN in the round as follows, increasing for RAGLAN – read explanation for how to increase. Cables are worked every 2nd increase (i.e., every 4th round). ROUND 1: * Knit until there are 4 stitches left before the marker, work A.1, move the marker onto the right needle, work A.2, * work from *-* a total of 4 times, knit to end of round (8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. ROUND 3: * Knit until there are 5 stitches left before the marker, work A.1, move the marker onto the right needle, work A.2, * work from *-* a total of 4 times, knit to end of round (8 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 11-13-14-15-15-16-17 times (44-52-56-60-60-64-68 rounds worked). A total of 22-26-28-30-30-32-34 increases for raglan = 280-316-336-356-364-384-404 stitches. You now no longer increase on the sleeves, as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit until there are 4 stitches left before the marker, work A.1, move the marker onto the right needle, knit to the next marker, move the marker onto the right needle, work A.2 * work from *-* a total of 2 times, knit to end of round (4 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. ROUND 3: * Knit until there are 5 stitches left before the marker, work A.1, move the marker onto the right needle, knit to the next marker, move the marker onto the right needle, work A.2 * work from *-* a total of 2 times, knit to end of round (4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 3-2-2-2-3-4-5 times (12-8-8-8-12-16-20 rounds worked) = 304-332-352-372-388-416-444 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished: a total of 28-30-32-34-36-40-44 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 22-26-28-30-30-32-34 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stockinette stitch without further increases until the yoke measures 21-22-24-25-26-29-31 cm = 8¼"-8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10¼"-11⅜"-12¼" from the marker mid-back. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Knit 48-51-54-57-61-66-71 (= approx. half back piece), place the next 57-65-69-73-73-77-81 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 95-101-107-113-121-131-141 (front piece), place the next 57-65-69-73-73-77-81 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 47-50-53-56-60-65-70 stitches (= approx. half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 214-226-242-262-282-306-330 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 12-12-14-18-20-22-24 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to the marker; the round begins here. Work stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝" from the marker mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 3, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 2 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP = 216-228-244-264-284-308-332 stitches. Knit 2 rounds. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and bind off with knit. The sweater measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the marker mid-back and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 57-65-69-73-73-77-81 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 12-12-14-18-20-22-24 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 69-77-83-91-93-99-105 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 12-12-14-18-20-22-24 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 cm = ⅜", decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 0-10-10-5-5-3½-2½ cm = 0"-4"-4"-2"-2"-1¼"-1" 0-2-4-7-7-9-11 times = 69-73-75-77-79-81-83 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-42-40-40-39-37-35 cm = 17"-16½"-15¾"-15¾"-15¼"-14½"-13¾" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 3 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 3-3-1-3-1-3-1 stitches evenly on the first round - remember INCREASE TIP = 72-76-76-80-80-84-84 stitches. Knit 2 rounds. Change to double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and bind off with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 45-44-42-42-41-39-37 cm = 17¾"-17¼"-16½"-16½"-16⅛"-15¼"-14½" from the division. |
