------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Purl through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Purl through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes with 8½-9-9-8-8-8½-9 cm = 3¼"-3½"-3½"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3¼"-3½" between each one. Adjust so the bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stockinette stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 121-129-129-137-137-145-145 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Lima. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work the next row from the right side as follows: 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib for 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker inside one band (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 4 new markers, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (raglan-stitch; you increase for raglan on each side of these stitches). Count 19-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 25-29-29-33-33-37-37 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 19-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches left (= right front piece). You now continue with stockinette stitch and pattern and increase for raglan, therefore, read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Start from the right side, work the band and stockinette stitch on each front piece, A.1 across the stitches between markers 1 and 2 (= left sleeve), stockinette stitch on the back piece, A.2 across the stitches between markers 3 and 4 (= right sleeve). The raglan-stitches are worked in stockinette stitch. When A.1 and A.2 have been completed in height, repeat the top 8 rows in the diagrams onwards (marked with x in the diagrams), you increase 3 stitches on the first row of A.1/A.2. RAGLAN: Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as above and increase for RAGLAN – read explanation above, as follows (remember the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. ROW 1 (right side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as before. The increased stitches are worked in stockinette stitch. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 1-5-6-10-10-9-6 times (2-10-12-20-20-18-12 rows worked) = 135-175-183-223-223-223-199 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as before and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as before. ROW 3 (right side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as before, increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces i.e., before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4 – do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (wrong side): Work the bands, stockinette stitch and pattern as before. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 15-14-15-14-16-18-22 times (60-56-60-56-64-72-88 rows worked; 15-14-15-14-16-18-22 increases in height on the sleeves and 30-28-30-28-32-36-44 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 315-343-363-391-415-439-463 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished; a total of 16-19-21-24-26-27-28 increases in height on the sleeves and 31-33-36-38-42-45-50 increases in height on the front and back pieces. The yoke measures approx. 22-24-26-28-30-32-36 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10¼"-11"-11¾"-12½"-14¼" from the marker mid-front, continue working if necessary to the correct length without further increases. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 51-55-58-62-66-71-76 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 89-97-103-111-119-129-139 stockinette stitches (= back piece), place the next 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the 51-55-58-62-66-71-76 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 215-231-247-267-287-311-335 stitches. Work stockinette stitch and the bands as before until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-49-51-53 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¼"-20"-21" from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 20-22-24-24-26-30-34 stitches evenly on the first row – read INCREASE TIP = 235-253-271-291-313-341-369 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5, work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off. The jacket measures approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 74-80-86-94-100-104-108 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 12-12-14-16-18-20-22stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch and pattern in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 5-4-4-3-2 ½-2½-2 cm = 2"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-1"-1"-¾" a total of 8-9-9-11-12-12-12 times = 58-62-68-72-76-80-84 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-41-40-38-36-34-31 cm = 17"-16⅛"-15¾"-15"-14¼"-13⅜"-12¼" from the division. Decrease 1 stitch in each cable and 1 stitch mid-under the sleeve = 54-58-64-68-72-76-80 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), making sure the rib matches the stitches in the cables (across these 5 stitches work knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1). When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off. The sleeve measures approx. 47-45-44-42-41-39-36 cm = 18½"-17¾"-17¼"-16½"-16⅛"-15¼"-14¼" from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
