---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over at the end of every purl section. On next round purl yarn over twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2 (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 140 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 34) = 4.1. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch. On next round knit yarns over twisted to avoid holes. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Work the entire pattern in stockinette stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting gauge to tighten when working pattern, it is important not to tighten the strands on back side of piece. Switch to a higher needle number when working pattern if the pattern is somewhat tight. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Begin 3 stitches before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BIND-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight bind-off edge when binding off, you may use a larger needle. If this still is too tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 6th stitch while binding off (bind off yarn overs as stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work double neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder at the back, top down. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. Work body in the round on needle, top down. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. DOUBLE NECK EDGE: Cast on 84-87-90-93-96-102 stitches on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 with grey in DROPS Nepal. Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Work 1 round in stockinette stitch. Then work rib in the round (= knit 1 twisted/purl 2) for 13-13-13-15-15-15 cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛"-6"-6"-6". The neck edge is later folded double and assembled so that the neck edge is approx. 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾". Insert 1 marker on row. Work yoke as explained below. Measure yoke from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Continue rib as before. When piece measures 1 cm = ⅜", increase 1 stitch in each of the 28-29-30-31-32-34 purl sections - read INCREASE TIP-1 = 112-116-120-124-128-136 stitches. Continue with rib – knit 1 twisted/purl 3. When piece measures 3-4-5-6-7-8 cm = 1⅛"-1½"-2"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛" from marker, increase 1 stitch in every purl section – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 140-145-150-155-160-170 stitches. Then work in stockinette stitch in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When piece measures 5-6-7-9-10-11 cm = 2"-2⅜"-2¾"-3½"-4"-4⅜" from marker, increase 34-35-42-43-50-58 stitches evenly – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 174-180-192-198-210-228 stitches. Work 1 round in stockinette stitch (always knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes). On next round begin pattern, i.e. work A.1 in the round (= 29-30-32-33-35-38 repetitions of 6 stitches). AT THE SAME TIME on every round marked with arrow in A.1 increase stitches evenly as explained below. Read KNITTING TIP and REMEMBER INCREASE TIP-2! Arrow-1: Increase 42-48-48-60-60-66 stitches evenly = 216-228-240-258-270-294 stitches (there is now room for 36-38-40-43-45-49 repetitions of A.1 of 6 stitches). Arrow-2: Increase 24-24-36-36-42-48 stitches evenly = 240-252-276-294-312-342 stitches (there is now room for 40-42-46-49-52-57 repetitions A.1 of 6 stitches). Arrow-3: Increase 8-8-12-18-20-18 stitches evenly = 248-260-288-312-332-360 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch without increases with grey until piece measures 20-22-24-26-28-30 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½"-10¼"-11"-11¾" from marker at the neck. On next round divide yoke for body and sleeves, i.e. work next round as follows: Slip the first 48-50-56-62-62-66 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work in stockinette stitch over the next 76-80-88-94-104-114 stitches (= front piece), slip the next 48-50-56-62-62-66 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), and work in stockinette stitch over the last 76-80-88-94-104-114 stitches (= back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 164-176-192-208-232-252 stitches. Insert 1 marker after the first 3-4-4-5-6-6 stitches on round, i.e. in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-12 stitches that were cast on under sleeve (= in the side on body). Work in stockinette stitch until marker. Round now begins at this marker. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 24 cm = 9½" from division in all sizes. 6 cm = 2⅜" remain until finished measurements. Try the sweater and work to desired length. Now increase as explained below to stop the rib from contracting. Work 1 round in stockinette stitch while increasing 28-31-33-38-41-45 stitches evenly - remember INCREASE TIP-2 = 192-207-225-246-273-297 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work rib in the round (= knit 1 twisted/purl 2) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Bind off by knitting - read BIND-OFF TIP! Sweater measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from shoulder and down. SLEEVES: Slip the 48-50-56-62-62-66 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece on double pointed needles or a short circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-12-12 new stitches cast on under sleeve = 54-58-64-72-74-78 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-12 stitches under sleeve. Move the marker thread upwards when working - marker should be used for decrease stitches mid under sleeve. Begin round at the marker thread, and work stockinette stitch in the round with grey. When piece measures 2 cm = ¾" from division, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6-5-3½-2½-2-2 cm = 2⅜"-2"-1¼"-1"-¾"-¾" 6-7-9-12-12-13 times in total = 42-44-46-48-50-52 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 35-34-33-31-30-28 cm = 13¾"-13⅜"-13"-12¼"-11¾"-11" from division. 10 cm = 4" remain until finished measurements. Try the sweater and work to desired length. Knit 1 round while increasing 9-10-11-12-10-11 stitches evenly - remember INCREASE TIP-2 = 51-54-57-60-60-63 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6. Work rib in the round (= knit 1 twisted/purl 2) for 10 cm = 4". Bind off by knitting - remember BIND-OFF TIP! Sleeve measures approx. 45-44-43-41-40-38 cm = 17¾"-17¼"-17"-16⅛"-15¾"-15" from division. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the top approx. 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾" of rib at the neck down on the inside of garment (down to inserted marker). Fasten rib to get a double folding edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
