Knit one below, k1b

K1b: put your right needle through the stitch below the first st on the left needle, bring the yarn through and lift st of left needle. "knit one below", "K1b" is a knitting technique that allows you to create rib, nice textures and also vertical stripes when using 2 colors as in our video. Cast on an uneven number of sts on double pointed needles or on a circular needle for a larger project. Row 1 (RS) green: K1, *K1, k1b*, repeat *-* and end with K2, slide sts to the right side of needle. Row 2 (RS) white: P1, *k1b, K1*, repeat *-* and end with k1b, P1, turn. Row 3 (WS) green: P1, *P1, purl1below*, repeat *-* and end with P2, slide sts to the right side of needle. Row 4 (WS) white: K1, *purl1below, P1*, repeat *-* and end with purl 1 below, K1, turn. Repeat row 1-4.

Twined knitting

...aka two-end knitting, a several hundreds year old traditional Scandinavian knitting technique. You use two strands of yarn (even when knitting in solid color). Knit each strand alternately and twisting them between each and every stitch. The resulting fabric is much firmer and denser than regular stockinette stitch and creates a warm, dense and wind-resistant fabric. As perfect today for mittens, hats and socks... as it was back in the 17th century. When working twined knitting most common is to be knitted in the round and with the yarn held in the right hand as an opposite to regular Scandinavian knitting where you hold the yarn in your left hand. In other fair-isle techniques the strands are running parallel instead of being twined as in twined knitting. Fair-isle is creating a much less dense fabric than what you get with twined knitting.

Picot edge (back and forth).

In this video we show how to knit a picot edge back and forth on needle. We have already knitted row 1 to 4 twice, and we are starting with row 1 for the third time. Row 1: Knit Row 2: Knit Row 3: Knit to last 4 sts, work as follows: K2 tog, 1 YO, K2 into each of the last 2 sts = 2 new sts Row 4: Slip 1, K1, pass the slipped stitch over, K1, and lift the second st on right needle over the first, 2 sts are now bound off - K across on rem sts on row. Knitted spiral pattern

In this video we show how to knit the spiral pattern in the round. The number of stitches can be divided by 6 + 1. In our example we have 25 stitches. We already casted on and knitted the first round over all stitches. The pattern starts in 2nd round. Work * K 4, P 2*, repeat *-* around. When working in the round the pattern will automatically shift 1 st to the right for each round and creates the spiral pattern. Portuguese knitting

In this DROPS video we show you how to knit in the Portuguese style. Portuguese knitting is especially a good choice for people with joint pains and arthritis because of the little movement needed to form the stitches. And it's supposed to be a great way for blind or visually impaired to knit because the working yarn stays put and you can always find it easily. The holding of the needles are the same, but you tension the yarn around your neck or a knitting pin on your left shoulder with your working yarn coming from the left hand needle. On your right hand you hold the thread around your middle finger. We start the video with: Row 1 (RS): Knit stitch Row 2 (WS): Purl stitch We repeat row 1-2

“Torpa-knit”

In this DROPS video we show you how to knit a pattern called “Torpa-knit” in Norwegian. This pattern is often used in mittens and hat. We have already worked a rib and 2 rounds with P. Then we work like this: (Round 1-2: P with dark color. Already shown in the video). Round 3-6: *K 4 sts with light color, slip 2 st as if to P*, repeat *-* round out. Round 7-8: change to dark color and P all sts. Round 9-12: Switch to light color, K 1 st, *slip 2 st as if to P, K 4 sts *repeat * - * round out and finish with K 3 sts. Repeat row 1.-12. to desired measurement.

Shadow knit/Illusion knit

In this DROPS video we show you how to work shadow knit. Shadow knit is an easy knitting technique that provides a fun result. It is worked with two different colors, contrasting colors give the best effect. Knit 2 rows of each color. On the right side knit all stitches, and on the wrong side vary between knit and purl sts depending on the pattern you want to create. The pattern appears when you get a dark ridge in the lighter area and a light ridge in the darker area. In this video we work a simple pattern. We knit ten, purl ten with the lighter color and purl ten, knit ten with the darker color. The work must be seen in a special angle to see the pattern. When you move the work it shows a shadow effect, and the pattern changes appearance by how you move it. In the video we work like this: Row 1: Knit all sts with the darker color Row 2: Knit 10 sts, purl 10 sts with the darker color Row 3: Knit all sts with the lighter color Row 4: Purl 10 sts, knit 10 sts with the lighter color Repeat row 1-4.

Knitting: Textured pattern worked back and forth

In this DROPS video we show you how to work a simple textured pattern back and forth on the needle. We have already worked and one repeat in the height and we work 4 repeats in width. REMEMBER - you will also need to read the pattern to be able to follow. Double Knitting: Pattern

In double knitting every other stitch belongs to the front and every other to the back. In this Drops Video we have a red and a green side, i.e stitches are red and green alternating and you should look at them as pairs. In our example we work a very basic pattern, where you work the stitches in opposite colors. So when we come to the 1st stitch marked in chart, that means next 2 stitches should be switching colors. We therefore work the first stitch red instead of green on the green side, and the following stitch we work green instead of red. On the next row where we shall switch 3 stitches in a row, that means 6 stitches should be worked alternating. We did not use stitch markers in our video, but for some more complicated patterns it can be a good help.

How to work the textured pattern in DROPS 209-11

In this DROPS video we show how we work the textured pattern after chart A.1a, A.1b and A.1c to the «Crisp Morning Rain» neck warmer in DROPS 209-11. We have less stitches that is says in the pattern and we have already worked the charts twice in the height. In the video we show row 1-4. This neck warmer is worked in DROPS Cotton Merino, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern and look at the charts to be able to follow this video properly.
