How to cast on and bind off with double threads

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on and how to bind off with double yarn. In some of our patterns it is described that one should both cast on and bind off with double threads. We do this to get a nicer ending / a little more weight on the garment / more elastic / slightly loosely bind off, but everything depends on which yarn you work with. How to get an elastic edge when binding off

In this DROPS video we show one way to bind off to get an elastic edge, like you can find in DROPS 186-13. Work like this: Bind off with knit from the right side as follows: Knit 2 stitches, * insert the left needle into the 2 stitches on the right needle from left to right and knit them together, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left on the row. Cut the strand and pull it through the last stitch. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to bind off elastic – 3 different ways

In this DROPS video we show 3 ways to bind off elastic. 1) Knit 2. * Insert left needle into the 2 stitches on right needle. Use the right needle and knit the stitches twisted together. Knit 1 stitch* = 2 stitches on needle. Repeat * - *. 2) * Insert the needle through the 1st stitch and pick up the 2nd stitch and knit. Slip both stitches from left needle. Place the stitch on the right needle over the left needle *. Repeat * - *. 3) * Insert the needle through the first 2 stitches from right to left. Then insert the needle through the 1st stitch from left to right, slip stitch from the needle *. Repeat *-*. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to bind off with 3 needles

In this DROPS video we show you how to bind off 2 pieces at the same time with using 3 needles. Put the 2 pieces right side against right side. Hold the needles parallel and put a third needle into the first stitch on each of the two parallel needles. Knit the first two stitches on the left side as usually = 2 stitches on the right needle. Take the 1st stitch on right needle over the 2nd stitch on the right needle. Then knit the next stitches on the parallel stitches together and continue as you normally would when binding off until one stitch remains on the right needle. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video and we use a green thread so you better can see the “bind off stitches” after.

How to bind off loosely in English rib

In this DROPS video we show how to bind off in English rib where we also bind off the yarn overs as normal stitches (i.e. 1 stitch + 1 stitch + 1 yarn over will be 3 stitches when binding off). If the edge is still tight, you can bind off with a needle size larger. We use the yarn DROPS Air in the video. You’ll find a pattern with this technique by clicking on the picture below.

Bind off English rib

When you bind off English rib, keep working in pattern to make edge elastic. Bind off with K over K and P over P (first and last stitch in video are edge sts that we bind off as K sts). The stitch that should be slipped according to pattern is Purled, next stitch is K tog with yo, then bind off by slipping 1st st over second on right needle, continue like this according to video. How to bind off the stitch and the yarn over in English rib

In this DROPS video we show how to bind off in English rib. We bind off with knit; yarn overs are bind off as separate stitches. This to avoid the binding-off edge being tight. How to show a puff sleeve flap and assembly

In this DROPS video we show how to bind off stitches for the "flap" to a puff sleeve. We only work ½ the part of a yoke and we start the video by showing how we bind off stitches on top of the middle of the shoulder which is to become a «flap». Then we show how to cast on new stitches "under" the flap. We also put some markers in the work where it is to be increased later (read in the pattern how to increase it). When the body and sleeves have finished, baste a strand up and down through cast-on edge at the top on sleeve. Wrinkle the sleeve cap so that it fits in a straight line to the opening where stitches were bind off on shoulder. In the video, we fold in the cast on edge a bit and fasten it with needles before sewing it in a straight line on the top of the sleeve. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in video. Double Knitting: two color bind off

To best match the two color cast on you want to work a bind off like this on your finished double knitted project. In this DROPS video we are holding the 2 strands together, knit first 2 sts together, *k2tog through the back loops, then slip the 2nd st on right needle over 1st. Repeat from * across, after last stitch has been slipped over, cut yarn and pull through. Weave in ends.

Double Knitting: invisible bind off

To match the invisible cast on you will have to make a kitchener stitching at the end of your work. Separate the stitches in the front and back onto two separate needles. Cut yarn and make one tail long enought for stitching, i.e about 3 times the width of your work. Put the long strand on the darning needle and the other strand will be weaved in later. We have a separate Drops Video for Kitchener Stitch, but this is how you do it: Stick darning needle pwise into 1st st on 1st needle and pull through without dropping st off needle. Bind off and decrease at the same time

When you work cables you add more sts than if you would be working in stockinette. The cables are pulling the piece together. When you bind off above a cable it is a good idea to decrease the cable sts at the same time as you bind off. Otherwise the bind off edge will make for example the neck or shoulders wider than supposed to be. In this video we decrease 4 sts - by K2 tog twice above each cable - at the same time as we bind off following the pattern. How to bind off with i-cord binding off.

In this DROPS video we show how to bind off with i-cord binding off that is for example, used in the shawl in DROPS 190-15. Work and bind off as follows: * Knit 2 stitches, the next 2 stitches are knitted twisted together. Push the 3 stitches from the right needle back onto the left needle (in the same order) *, repeat from *-* until all stitches on the left needle have been cast off and there are 3 stitches left on the right needle. Push the stitches onto the left needle and bind them off with knit. This shawl is crocheted in DROPS Flora, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. How to work an I-cord edge while binding off.

In this DROPS video we show how we work an I-cord edge while we're binding off. Cast on 4 new stitches on right needle from WS, turn piece. Use another knitting needle if you wish. * Knit 3 stitches, the next 2 stitches are knitted twisted together. Put these 4 stitches back to the left needle *. Repeat from *-* the entire round and bind off. Sew together cast on and bind off edge. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to work the picot edge in DROPS 187-13

Bind off edge with picot in DROPS 169-8

In this DROPS video we show you how to cast off with a picot edge. In the video we work like this: Bind off the first 2 sts on needle. (*insert right needle in between the 2 first sts on left needle (i.e in between sts on needle not true sts), make a YO on right needle, pull the YO through the sts and slip the YO onto left needle *, repeat from *-* 2 more times (= 3 new sts on left needle). ** K first st on left needle, slip first st on right needle over last st worked **), repeat from **-** 7 times in total and repeat from (-) along the side of the shawl until 1 sts remains.
