In this DROPS video we show you how to knit the Jupiter socks in DROPS 167-34. In the video we show size 35/37, and we have knitted half the amount of ridges than stated in the pattern. When the pattern says knit 6 ridges, we knitted 3 and when the pattern says knit 12 ridges we knitted 6. The result in the video is looking a bit different than the original, but it is the same sock just with fewer ridges. How to work a sock with a diagonal heel

In this DROPS video we show you how to work a heel with a diagonal line from the heel towards the top of the foot This is achieved by working short rows. 1. First you work short rows across the top of the heel, then across the bottom of the heel, finishing by working in the round across all stitches and working towards the toe. 2. The stitches on the top of the foot are placed on a thread/stitch holder and you only work the heel-stitches. Work until there is 1 stitch left on the row. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth, working 1 less stitch on each row and working to the stated stitch-count. 3. Continue back and forth but now working 1 more stitch on each row across the heel stitches. To avoid holes each time you turn, pick up the horisontal strand before the next stitch and place it twisted on the left needle, then work this together with the next stitch on the left needle. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth until you have worked all the heel-stitches. 4. Place the stitches from the thread/stitch holder back onto the needles. 5. Continue in the round to the given length.

How to knit a sock with a gusset heel – short overview

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a gusset heel - arguably the most common method for working a heel. To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small gusset heel – that is why this type of heel is known as a gusset heel.

How to knit a sock with a square heel

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a square heel. The stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows (the heel extends under the foot): 1) The heel is worked back and forth across the heel-stitches to achieve the correct height. For this type of heel, the length reaches midway under the heel. 2) Next, the heel is knitted together beneath the foot. 3) The sock is then continued in the round, with stitches picked up along both sides of the heel length, working towards the toe. 4) This heel creates a square shape, which is why this type of heel is known as a square heel.

How to work a sock with a diamond heel

In this DROPS video we give you a short overview of how to work a sock with a diamond heel. All stitches remain on the needles while knitting the heel. To make the heel, follow these steps: 1. Knit in the round, gradually increasing stitches at the back of the sock until the desired width and length of the heel have been achieved. 2. Decrease the heel stitches while continuing to knit in the round. 3. Continue knitting towards the toe. 4. The combination of increases and decreases forms a diamond-shaped section at the back of the sock, which is why this type of heel is called a diamond heel.

How to knit a sock with a gusset heel (basic method)

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a gusset heel on a sock following a basic method. Knit the heel sts in the back in stockinette st back and forth on needles for 5-6 cm/2-2½ inches. Start dec on next row from RS. Knit row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece. Knit WS row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece. Continue back and forth dec like this with 1 less st remaining each time before working 2 sts tog. After heel dec pick up in pattern mentioned numbers of sts on each side of heel and continue in stockinette st in the round on all needles again. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to knit the short row heel with diagonal shaping of a sock by putting sts on a thread

In his DROPS video we show how you can shape your heel diagonally with short rows on a knitted sock. Knit stocking sts on heel sts, and at the same time slip 1 st at the end of every row on a strand of yarn or a stitch holder. Continue until there are 3 sts on holders each side and 4 sts left on needle. Now continue in stocking sts, and at the same time work 1 st from stitch holder back on needle at the end of every row Note: to avoid a hole pick up 2 sts between sts on needle and sts on stitch holder. On next row work these 2 sts and st from holder tog to 1 st. Continue like this until all sts are back on needle. Work 1 row stocking st on all sts and then continue on all sts on round again. How to knit a reinforced heel on a sock

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a reinforced heel on a sock. This will make the sock more hard wearing. WS rows: slip 1 st as if to purl, then purl all sts on row, turn. RS rows. *slip 1st as if to knit, k1* and repeat over all heel sts. The slipped sts will stand out when looking at the RS. When heel flap is finished, start working to turn the heel as you continue slipping every other sts on the RS rows. Make sure to slip the same sts as before. Once heel is turned, pick up sts on each side of heel, start working in the round and stop slipping the heel sts. The heel is now thicker than the rest of the sock.
