In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a cute and decorating fan edge. This edge can be added on a crochet piece, or on a knitted piece, or you can crochet and sew it on to a piece of fabric, like a towel. If working along a crochet edge you will need a number of sts that can be divided by 8 + 1. If working in the round you need a number of sts that can be divided in 8. On our sample we have 25 sts. In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a simple, but nice edge with buttonhole stitches. Crochet the edge with a different color. We have already crocheted a swap with double crochet and started with 3 double crochet with the new color. * Insert the hook into the stitch in the row right below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose. Insert the hook through the next stitch, but 2 rows below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose. Insert the hook into the next stitch in the row below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose = 4 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull the thread through all 4 loops = a group of buttonholes stitches. Work 1 double crochet in the next stitch (the stitch above the last worked stitch), work 1 double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches *. Repeat *-*. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to get straight edges when crocheting

In this DROPS video we show how to avoid getting a wavy edge and small gaps in the edges. We often use 3 chain stitches at the beginning of each row when working treble crochet back and forth to get the same height as a treble crochet. These chain stitch can either be in addition to the treble crochets on the row (this creates extra stitches and the edge becomes wavy) or the chain stitches counts as a treble crochet (this will create a hole on every other row). This can be avoided by pulling out the 1st stitch on the row, holding this stitch firmly with your finger, moving the hook towards you and then under the long first stitch, insert the needle into the first stitch (on the 1st row work the needle under 2 threads), get the thread and work a regular treble crochet. This stitch will be slightly loose, but on the next row it will be fine. Work like this in every row. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in this video.

How to crochet around a thin steel wire

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet the last round of a hat where you also crochet around a thin steel wire. The brim will becomes a bit stiffer. Chooses whether you wants to use single or double steel wire. In this video we work with double crochet around with a double steel wire. Twist the steel wire ends together a few times and put them at the edge. Fasten with the thread end while sewing over the steel wire ends so that they do not appear.
