How to knit stockinette/stocking stitch

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit stockinette (stocking) stitch. Stockinette is the most common technique to create an even surface on the outside of your garment. Work back and forth on the needles as we do in this video, you knit all sts on all rows from right side. On the wrong side rows you purl all stitches. When working in the round on circular needles or sock needles, you knit all sts on every round. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to work garter stitch back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how you can work garter stitch back and forth on the needle using the continental method. When working garter stitch back and forth on needle you knit the stitches on every row. When working garter in the round on a circular needle or sock needles you will have to knit one round, then purl one round, and then repeat these two rounds alternating. Note! When working in garter st your gauge i.e number of rows in height, will increase compared to working in stockinette. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to work knit 1, purl 1 (back and forth) – Nordic knitting style

In this DROPS video we show you how to work knit 1, purl 1, back and forth using the Nordic knitting style. This textured pattern is called rib/ribbing and is one of many varieties. BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS: The textured pattern stitches are divisible by 2. For the pattern to be symmetrical on both sides the stitch count needs to be divisible by 2 + 1 stitch. We have cast on with a stitch count divisible by 2 + 1 stitch and, in addition, 1 edge stitch on each side (the edge stitches are worked in garter stitch = knitted on all rows). We have already worked a few centimeters of the ribbed pattern. THE VIDEO SHOWS: ROW 1: Knit 1, purl 1 to end of row, with 1 edge stitch on each side. ROW 2: The stitches are worked in the same way as those below = knit above knit and purl above purl, with 1 edge stitch on each side. Repeat ROW 2 onward.

How to knit a cable over 4 sts without a cable needle

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a cable over 4 stitches without using a cable needle. We show both a cable to the right and to the left in this video. Cable turning right: yarn in front of work, slip 2 sts onto right needle, yarn to back of work, K2, from behind pick up the 2 slipped sts on left needle, drop the first 2 sts on right needle + 2 slipped sts and then put the first two sts back on right needle again, yarn to back of work and K2. Cable turning left: slip 2 sts, K2, from front pick up the 2 slipped sts on left needle, drop the first 2 sts on right needle + 2 slipped sts and then put the first two sts back on right needle again, K2. How to knit chart A.2 in DROPS 170-32 and DROPS 170-8

In this DROPS video we show how to knit the lace pattern after chart A.2 for the Sunny Day top in DROPS 170-32 and the Sunny Day jumper in DROPS 170-8. In this video we have already knitted a mini-top in stocking st with 2 garter st in each side. The chart is knitted back and forth. This top and jumper are made in DROPS Paris, but in the video we knit with a thicker yarn, DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern and look at the chart to be able to follow this video properly. How to work an I-cord edge, back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how to work an I-cord edge both from the right side and from the wrong side. In this video the 6 first / 6 last stitches after the I-cord edge are worked in garter stitches (= the stitches are knitted on every row). At the beginning of the row from the right side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. At the end of the row from the right side, work like this: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. At the beginning of the row from the wrong side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. How to knit English Rib

In this DROPS video we show how to knit English rib. This large fluffy rib is identical on both sides. It's great for scarves, blankets etc. We knit back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts. 1st row: 1 edge st in garter, *K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled*, rep *-*, end with K1, 1 edge st in garter. 2nd row: 1 edge st in garter, *yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog*, rep *-*, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, 1 edge st in garter. 3rd row: 1 edge st in garter, *K next st and yo tog, yo, slip 1 st as if purled *, rep *-*, end with K next st and yo tog, 1 edge st in garter. How to knit seed (moss) stitch back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how to knit seed (moss) stitch back and forth. How to knit seed (moss) stitch in the round

In this DROPS video we show how to knit seed (or moss) stitch in the round. When you are knitting seed st in the round on a circular needle or double pointed needles it's a great idea to work with an uneven number of sts. You will then get a good transition between K and P sts all the way around, and the beginning of the round will be invisible, You work alternating K1 and P1 around and around. On next round you will then automatically work K over P and P over K, which is what seed st is all about. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to knit seed stitch double in height

There are many variations of seed stitch and double seed stitch (aka moss stitch). In this DROPS video we show a version which is worked with alternating K1 and P1 in width. But K2 and P2 over each other in height. We knit 1 edge st each side in garter st (K on all rows). For the pattern to be visible, we have knitted about 2"/5 cm before we continue as follows: SEED ST - DOUBLE IN HEIGHT: (remember K1 edge st each side) Row 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from * - *. 2nd row: K over K and P over P. How to work an easy and nice texture pattern.

In this DROPS video we show how to work an easy and nice texture pattern, such as the rib to the Rose Blush vest in DROPS 212-44. Work like this: From RS: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, * 2 stitches in stocking stitch , 2 stitches in garter stitch *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, 2 stitches in stocking stitch and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. From WS: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, * 2 stitches in stocking stitch , 2 stitches in garter stitch *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, 2 stitches in stocking stitch and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. How to knit a smock pattern

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a smock pattern. By smocking you create a raised diamond pattern. >In this video we cast on 22 sts. We knit with multiples of 3 + 1. Row 1 RS: K1, *P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. Row 2 WS: K1, *K2, P1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain K2, K1. Repeat row 1-2 for rib pattern. 1st smock row, work next row from RS: K1, *P2, stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. 2nd smock row, work next row from RS: * stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1, P2*, repeat *-* when 4 sts remain: pick up the yarn after the last 4 sts, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. Repeat smocking rows alternately on every 6th row.
