I am making the 6-8 year old patter for the mittens. When you start the thumb gusset, do you go white yarn, beige yarn, white yarn? or is it all white yarn on either side?
06.12.2024 - 20:11DROPS Design answered:
Dear Galey, the thumb gusset is worked according to A.2. In the 4th round of A.1, in the 2nd stitch of the round you work the first round of A.2. So instead of a simple knit stitch in off white work 1 yarn over, 1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over, as indicated in the second chart (all in off white). The rest of the stitches are worked as in A.1, while the stitches for the thumb gusset are worked according to A.2. Happy knitting!

Hei Carina.

I am knitting this in the 6-8 year old measurements. I have just got to transferring the 9 thumb gusset stitches plus one on each side. I have 11 stitches on stitch holder, 40 left on my needle. I am about to cast on 3 more "behind the held stitches". Where do these three stitches go now? If I keep on needles I will have 43 (not 30). If I put on stitch holders I will have 14 (not 11). This is very confusing. I find this terminology misleading as how can 3 stitches be held behind ?
16.08.2023 - 22:01DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Riches, cast on these 3 new stitches to "replace" the 11 stitches slipped on a thread - you will create a hole and will later pick up stitches along this side to work thumb. See this video from time code 2:29: how to slip stitches on a thread and how to cast on new stitches over the stitches on the thread. Happy knitting!

Hola, otra duda: si los aum del pulgar se empiezan después de haber completado 3 vtas de A.1, NO coinciden las vtas para tejer con los mismos colores, creo que se debe empezar después de haber completado 2 vtas de A.1, o no es así?? gracias.

PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. See diagram A.1 for size. Work entire pattern in stockinette st. ---------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 32-36-40 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with beige. Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 4-5-6 cm / 1½''-2''-2 3/8''. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and work 1 round in stockinette st while at the same time inc 4-4-8 sts evenly = 36-40-48 sts. Continue with diagram A.1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE When 3 rounds in A.1 have been worked, beg inc for thumb gusset – inc on each side of second st on round – inc by making 1 YO, on next round K YOs twisted to avoid holes for thumb gusset. Work thumb gusset according to A.2. Repeat inc every 4th round 2-3-3 more times (inc on each side of all thumb sts, i.e. 2sts inc between each YO). After all inc are done, there are 7-9-9 thumb sts and 42-48-56 sts in total on needle. When piece measures a total of 10-12-14 cm / 4"-4 3/4"-5½", slip the 7-9-9 thumb sts + 1 st on each side of these on 1 stitch holder. Cast on 3 new sts behind sts on stitch holder = 36-40-48 sts on needle. When A.1 has been worked one time vertically, work with beige, on first round inc 0-2-0 sts evenly = 36-42-48 sts. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 15-17-19 cm / 6"-6 3/4"-7½", insert 6 markers in the piece, 6-7-8 sts apart. On next round, dec 1 st after every marker by K 2 tog. Repeat dec every other round 2 more times and then every round 2-3-4 times = 6 sts remain on needle. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. Mitten measures approx. 17-19-22 cm / 6 3/4"-7½"-8 3/4". THUMB: Slip the 9-11-11 sts from stitch holder over thumb gusset back on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5, knit in addition up 5 sts with beige in the edge behind the thumb sts = 14-16-16 sts. Work in stockinette st in the round with beige for 3½-4½-5½ cm / 1 1/4"-1 3/4"-2 1/4". On next round, K all sts tog 2 by 2, cut the strand, pull it through the remaining sts, tighten and fasten. Knit another mitten. |
