I started this pattern and the end of the star reaches my finger tips from where the thumb gusset is. Did anyone else have a problem with the top being too long?
24.01.2019 - 10:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Szura, did you get and keep the correct gauge? You should have 22sts x 30 rows in stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm. Happy knitting!

PATTERN: See diagram M.1 and M.2. Diagram shows the pattern from RS. The entire pattern is worked in stockinette st. -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- LEFT MITTEN: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 51 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 with maroon. Work 4 rounds stockinette st, P 1 round (= folding edge), and now continue in M.1, AT THE SAME TIME on round 29 dec 1 st = 50 sts. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When you reach the 3 black squares in diagram (row 32) work M.2 on these 3 sts, with remaining sts in M.1 as before. Inc in M.2 by making 1 YO inside 1 st each side, on next round K YO into back of loop to avoid a hole. After 5 inc (= 10 inc sts, and 13 sts for thumb gusset) work 4 rounds without inc (see M.2) and now slip the 13 thumb sts on a stitch holder. Cast on 3 new sts behind thumb sts = 50 sts on round. Continue in the round in M.1. When dec at the top of M.1 dec each side of 2 maroon sts each side. Dec as follows before the 2 maroon sts: K2 tog. Dec as follows after the 2 maroon sts: slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso. After all dec there are 10 sts left on needle, cut the threads, pull through remaining sts, tighten and fasten. THUMB: Slip the 13 thumb sts back on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 and pick up 9 sts behind thumb = 22 sts. Continue in the round in M.2. Dec each side of the 2 maroon sts each side. Dec as follows before the 2 maroon sts: K2 tog. Dec as follows after the 2 maroon sts: slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso. After all dec there are 8 sts left on needle, cut the threads, pull though remaining sts, tighten and fasten. Fold edge at the top of mitten double towards WS and fasten. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on and work like left mitten, but mirrored, i.e. work the 3 black squares in diagram in st no 4, 5, and 6 from the right side of diagram. |
