BODY The cardigan is knit in the round after the border with steeks for armholes and at the center front. Cast on 135-147-159 (183-195-207) sts on smaller circular needles with marine and knit 9 rows of garter st back and forth on the needles. Change to larger circular needles. Cast on 3 sts at the center front. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. The 3 cast on sts plus the 2 edge sts (5 total) are for the center front steek and are not knit into the pattern. Knit Pattern 2 in the round. When the work measures 20-21-24 (28-29-31) cm [7-⅞" - 8.25" - 9.5" (11" - 11-⅜" - 12.25")], knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts, 33-36-39 (45-48-51) sts for the front, cast on 5 sts (for underarm steek, which are not knit into the pattern), 67-73-79 (91-97-103) sts for the back, cast on 5 sts (for underarm steek, which are not knit into the pattern), 33-36-39 (45-48-51) sts for the front. When the work measures 26-27-31 (36-40-43) cm [10.25" - 10-⅝" - 12.25" (14-⅛" - 15.75" - 16-⅞")], bind off 12-14-16 (18-24-26) sts + 5 steek sts at the center front for the neck and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times. When the work measures 28-30-34 (39-43-46) cm [11" - 11.75" - 13-⅜" (15-⅜" - 16-⅞" - 18-⅛")], bind off the center back 21-23-25 (27-33-35) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts on each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off all sts when the work measures 30-32-36 (41-45-48) cm [11.75" - 12-⅝" - 14-⅛" (16-⅛" - 17.75" - 18-⅞")] adjusting for complete pattern if necessary. Sleeves: Cast on 36-36-38 (40-40-48) sts on smaller double pointed needles with marine. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit 8 rows in garter st. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 2 once, centering the pattern on the sleeve, then knit the rest in stockinette st with marine. After the garter st rows inc 1 st on each side of the marker 6-8-10 (11-18-18) times: Size 1/3 months: alternately every 3rd and 4th row. Sizes 6/9 months + 12/18 months + 2 years: every 4th row. Size 3/4 years: every 3rd row. Size 5/6 years: alternately every 3rd and 4th row. = 48-52-58 (62-76-84) sts. When the work measures 10-14-16 (17-21-25) cm [4" - 5.5" - 6.25" (6.75" - 8.25" - 9-⅞")], put 2 sts on each side of the marker on a holder. Continue to knit back and forth on the needles and at the same time put sts on the holder on each side every other row: 4-4-4 (4-6-6) sts 4 times. The work measures approximately 13-17-19 (20-24-28) cm [5-⅛" - 6.75" - 7.5" (7-⅞" - 9.5" - 11")]. Put all sts from the holders back on the same needle and knit around over all sts as follows: 2 cm [0.75"] in reverse stockinette st for the seam allowance over the cut steek edge on the body. Bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker down into the center of the steek sts on each side and at the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker, 1/2 stitch to either side. Cut up for armholes and at the center front. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 70-90 sts with marine on smaller needles along the left front and knit Border back and forth on the needles. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm [3/8"] make 5-5-5 (6-6-6) buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row). Remember to make corresponding buttonholes on the folding edge. Pick up approx. 74-86 sts around the neck on smaller needles with marine and knit 6 rows in garter st. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut steek edge on the body by hand. Sew on the buttons. Front: 62-68-74 (86-92-98) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row: 3 sts 1-1-1 (2-2-1) times, 2 sts 2-2-1 (1-1-2) times, 1 st 1-1-2 (1-1-1) times. 46-52-60 (68-74-82) sts. When the work measures 29-31-34 (39-45-49) cm [11-⅜" - 12.25" - 13-⅜" (15-⅜" - 17.75" - 19.25")], bind off the center 12-14-16 (20-24-26) for the neck. Bind off at the neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. Bind off when the work measures 33-35-39 (44-50-54) cm [13" - 13.75" - 15-⅜" (17-⅜" - 19.75" - 21.25")]. Back: 62-68-74 (86-92-98) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front. 46-52-60 (68-74-82) sts. 3 smallest sizes: When the work measures 27-28-32 cm [10-⅝" - 11" - 12-⅝"] bind off the center 6-6-6 sts for split and knit the rest of each part separately. When the work measures 31-33-37 cm [12.25" - 13" - 14-⅝"], bind off at the neck edge every other row: 7-8-9 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time. 3 largest sizes: When the work measures (42-48-52) cm [16.5" - 18-⅞" - 20.5"], bind off the center (28-32-34) sts for the neck. All sizes: Bind off all sts when the work measures 33-35-39 (44-50-54) cm [13" - 13.75" - 15-⅜" (17-⅜" - 19-⅝" - 21.25")]. Sleeves: Cast on 36-36-38 (40-40-46) sts on smaller double pointed needles with blue. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit 4 rows in garter st. Change to larger double pointed needles and Pattern 1 in reverse stockinette. When the work measures 3 cm [1.25"], inc 1 st on each side of the marker 6-8-10 (11-18-18) times: Size 1/3 months: every 3rd row. Sizes 6/9 months + 12/18 months + 2 years + 5/6 years: alternately every 3rd and 4th row. Size 3/4 years: alternately every other and 3rd row. = 48-52-58 (62-76-82) sts. When the work measures 10-14-16 (17-21-24) cm [4" - 5.5" - 6.25" (6.75" - 8.25" - 9.5")], bind off 2 sts on each side of the marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off for armholes every other row: 2 sts 11-10-10 (11-11-11) times. Bind off when the work measures 18-21-23 (25-29-32) cm [7" - 8.25" - 9" (9-⅞" - 11-⅜" - 12-⅝")]. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 61 sts around the neck on smaller circular needles with blue and knit 2 rows in garter st. Then knit rib for 2-2-3 (3-4-4) cm [0.75" -0.75" -1.25" (1.25" -1.5" -1.5")], knit back and forth on the needles on the 3 smallest sizes and in the round on the 3 largest sizes. Pick up approx. 20 sts along the left side of the split on smaller needles with blue and knit rib for 2.5 cm [1"]. Bind off. Repeat along the right side of the split, but after 1 cm [3/8"] make 2 buttonholes distributed as follows: Top buttonhole 1 cm [3/8"] from the upper edge and bottom buttonhole = halfway between the top buttonhole and the bottom of the split. (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row.) Bind off. Sew the split together at the bottom. Sew on the sleeves and buttons. TROUSERS Trouser length: 38-42-47 (52-58-64) cm [15" - 16.5" - 18.5" (20.5" - 22-⅞" - 25.25")]. Leg length: 18-22-25 (27-35-41) cm [7" - 8-⅝" - 9-⅞" (10-⅝" - 13.75" - 16-⅛")]. COLOR ALTERNATIVE 1: For trousers you will need: 100-100-100 (150-150-150) g Blue COLOR ALTERNATIVE 2: For trousers you will need: 100-100-100 (150-150-150) g Marine DROPS 2 mm/US 0 and 2.5 mm/US 1 circular needles and double pointed needles, or sizes needed to obtain correct gauge. Gauge: 25 sts and 34 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4") Right leg: Cast on 46-46-50 (54-58-58) sts on smaller double pointed needles with blue. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit rib for 2 cm [0.75"]. Change to green and knit 2 rows rib. Change back to blue and larger double pointed needles and inc 12-12-12 (12-14-16) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row. 58-58-62 (66-72-74) sts. Continue with rib. Inc 1 st each side of marker on the inside of the leg every 8th row 5 times. 68-68-72 (76-82-84) sts. When the work measures 16-20-23 (25-33-39) cm [6.25" - 7-⅞" - 9" (9-⅞" - 13" - 15-⅜")], divide the work at the marker (inside of the leg) and knit back and forth on the needles and inc 1 st on each side for seam. 70-70-74 (78-84-86) sts. When the work measures 18-22-25 (27-35-41) cm [7-⅛" - 8-⅝" - 9-⅞" (10-⅝" - 13.75" - 16-⅛")], bind off 3 sts on each side. 64-64-68 (72-78-80) sts. Put the work aside. Left leg: Knit like the right. Trouser: Put both legs on the same circular needles. 128-128-136 (144-156-160) sts. Attach a marker in the transition between the legs both front and back. Inc 1 st at the center back on each side of the marker (one st in from the marker) every 3rd row 4 times, and at the same time dec 1 st at the center front on each side of the marker (1 st in from the marker) every 3rd row 5 times, as follows: K 2 tog into back of st, K 2 center sts, K 2 tog. 126-126-134 (142-154-158) sts. When the work measures 37-41-46 (51-57-63) cm [14-⅝" - 16-⅛" - 18-⅛" (20" - 22.5" - 24.75")], change to smaller circular needles and dec 6-6-2 (10-10-8) sts evenly distributed on the row. 120-120-132 (132-144-150) sts. Knit rib for 1 cm [3/8"] and then the next row as follows: * 4 sts rib, K 2 tog, yarn over *. Repeat from * - *. Continue knitting in rib until the work measures 38-42-47 (52-58-64) cm [15" - 16.5" - 18.5" (20.5" - 22-⅞" - 25.25")]. Bind off. Assembly: Sew together the split on the inside of each leg up to the bound-off sts and then sew together the opening between the legs from the center of the front to the center of the back on the trouser. Pull a cord through the eyelet border on the waist. HAT Circumference: 43-45-45 (48-48-50) cm [16.5" - 17.75" - 17.75" (18-⅞" - 18-⅞" - 19.75")]. Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. (4" x 4") HAT Cast on 102-108-108 (114-114-120) sts on double pointed needles with blue. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit 4 rows in garter st. Knit Pattern 2 until the work measures 7-7-8 (8-9-9) cm [2.75" - 2.75" - 3-⅛" (3-⅛" - 3.5" - 3.5")]. Continue knitting in stockinette st in blue until the work measures 9-9-10 (11-12-13) cm [3.5" - 3.5" - 4" (4-⅜" - 4.75" - 5-⅛")]. Place 6 markers evenly distributed on the 1st row (17-18-18 (19-19-20) sts between each marker). Knit 2 sts together on the right side of each marker: Size 1/3 months: every row. Sizes 6/9 months + 12/18 months: alternately every and every other row. Sizes 2 years - 3/4 years - 5/6 years: every other row. Continue decreasing until 6 sts remain on the row. Pull a strand through the sts and sew. SOCKS Foot length of the sock: 10-11-12 (14-15-17) cm [4" - 4-⅜" - 4.75" (5.5" - 5-⅞" - 6.75")].
