When starting the front (and back) after 1 inch of seed stitch it says to knit 25 sts of M2 and M1(for the smaller size) but M2 (and M1) is a 10 stitch repeating pattern. Do I start in the middle or end in the middle of the pattern repeat?
03.11.2018 - 00:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lynn, to work 25 sts in M.1/M.2 repeat the diagram twice in width = 20 sts and work the first 5 sts. Happy knitting!

Why are the stitches at the underarm and side shaping placed on holders? There are no special directions for these stitches under assembling. Couldn't these stitches simply be bound off?
06.12.2016 - 14:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mary Anne, when shaping sleeve cap, you first slip sts on a st holder on each side, then work 3 rounds moss st on all sts (= all sts from st holders too) + 1 row in stocking st before binding off. Happy knitting!

05.03.2013 - 14:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Turner, diagrams are read from the bottom corner at the right side towards the left each round when working in the round. When you will work back and forth, RS rows will be read as below, WS rows will be worked from the left towards the right. Happy knitting!

Seed st: Row 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*. Row 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat row 2. Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS. Rutediagram = square pattern ----------------------------------- Front piece: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 96-106 sts on needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 and work 3 cm / 1" seed st. Change to needle size 5 mm / US 8 and work next row as follows: 5 seed sts, 25-30 sts of M.2, 3 seed sts, 30 sts of M.3, 3 seed sts, 25-30 sts of M.1, 5 seed sts. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When piece measures 14 cm / 5½" put it aside and work back piece. Back piece: Cast on and work like front piece. Body piece: Slip both pieces on circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 and continue in the round = 192-212 sts. Now continue in pattern as before, but include the 10 seed sts each side in pattern at the sides. When M.2, M.3 and M.1 measures 17-17 cm (= 1 square repeat) work 3 rounds seed st, and now repeat the square pattern (see diagram) with 3 seed sts between each square across the row and 3 rounds seed st between each vertical repeat. When piece measures 46-48 cm divide the piece in 2 and complete front and back pieces separately. Front piece: = 96-106 sts. When piece measures 58-60 cm bind off the middle 2 sts for split and complete each side separately. Bind off to shape the V-neck at the beg of every row from mid front: 1 st 16 times. After the last square pattern complete piece in seed st. Bind off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 75-77 cm. Back piece: = 96-106 sts. Continue in pattern as described for front piece. When piece measures 72-74 cm bind off the middle 28-28 sts for neck and bind off to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 sts 1 time. Bind off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 75-77 cm. Sleeve: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 40-40 sts on needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 and work 3 cm / 1⅛" seed st. Change to needle size 5 mm / US 8 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 6-6 sts evenly on first round = 46-46 cm. Now work M.1, at the same time inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 26 times on every 3rd round = 98-98 sts. When piece measures 44-42 cm slip 8 sts mid under arm on a stitch holder and continue back and forth of needle. Now slip sts on stitch holder each side on every other row: 6 sts 2 times. When piece measures 47-45 cm work 3 rounds seed st on all sts, 1 round stockinette st and bind off. Piece measures approx 48-46 cm. Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx 130-140 sts round the neck on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 and work 4 cm / 1½" seed st back and forth on needle from mid front, bind off. Place the right side of edge over the left side at bottom of split and fasten. Set in sleeves. |
