Bonjour Mme Collin, ce sont des mailles supplémentaires que l'on monte pour tricoter en rond mais que l'on va ensuite découper - cette vidéo vous montre un exemple. Bon tricot!

Thanks for your response! So since I'm knitting the opposite way (lengthwise from bottom to top), 'll need to work the pattern Lengthwise as well then, right?

Dear Mrs Drake, you will work the 204 stitches from RS starting on bottom of right front piece, then along right front piece, along neckline on back piece and down along left front piece (and from WS from bottom of left front piece up to neckline on back piece, and down to bottom of right front piece), diagrams should be worked as before, ie M.1 is read bottom up and right from left towards right from RS and left towards right from WS. Happy knitting!

Can you help me? I’ve knitted the sweater and steeked it. I’ve picked up 204 stitches on the left edge. How do I knit ‘back and forth’? Once I figure out how to do that, I have to read the pattern from the opposite direction, because I’m creating it up and down instead of bottom to top, right?

Dear Laura, back and forth means you knit flat, turning the piece at the end of each row (as opposed to knitting on the round). I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Knitting gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and pattern = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4" Remember needle sizes are guidelines only! Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 pattern repeat). Diagrams are seen from RS. Knit entire pattern in stockinette sts. Body: Knit jacket in the round on circular needles and cut up for armholes and mid front when knitting is completed. Cast on 265 (277-289) sts + 5 sts on circular needle size 3 mm = US 2,5 with black and knit 8 rounds stockinette sts, P1 round (= folding edge – measure piece from here). Continuing knit M.1 – do not knit pattern on the 5 sts mid front (these sts are for cutting up afterwards, continuing, do not incorporate into patterns throughout). Change to circular needles size 3.5 mm = US 4 and continue in M2. After 7 (8-8) pattern repeats knit 7 first rounds of pattern again, piece now measures approx 33 (37-37) cm = 13" (14½"-14½"). Knit M.3. Continuing knit M.4. When piece measures 44 (48-51) cm = 17¼" (19"-20") knit next row as follows: 5 sts + 66 (69-72) sts = right front piece, inc 5 sts for armhole, 132 (138-144) sts = back piece, inc 5sts for armhole, 67 (70-73) sts = left front piece (inc sts are for cutting up afterwards and should not be knit into pattern). When piece measures 45 (49-53) cm = 17¾" (19¼"-21") bind off for neck on each side of 5 sts mid front: 1 sts 11 times on each round, 1 sts 4 times on every 3rd round, 1 sts 1 (2-2) times on every 5th round – on left front piece bind off 1 sts more on last bind off. When 7 (7-8) pattern repeats have been knit 7 rounds of M.4 and then knit M.5. When piece measures 67 (71-75) cm = 26⅜" (28"-29½") bind off middle 26 (28-28) sts for neck back. Continuing bind off to shape neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 sts 1 time. Bind off after M.5. Piece measures approx 69 (73-77) cm = 27⅛" (28¾"-30⅜"). Sleeve: Cast on 54 (54-60) sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm = US 2,5 with black and knit 15 rounds stockinette sts, P1 round (= folding edge – measure piece from here), M6. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm = US 4, knit M.7 continuously (ensure to place one pattern repeat mid sleeve) and inc 4 (4-0) sts evenly on 1st round = 58 (58-60) sts. At the same time after M.6 inc mid under arm: 2 sts 28 (28-30) times on every 4th row = 114 (114-120) sts. When piece measures 44 (44-44) cm = 17¼" (17¼"-17¼") (adjust to M.7) knit M.3, piece measures approx 47 (47-47) cm = 18½" (18½"-18½"). 2 cm = ¾" stockinette sts with WS out for folding edge over cutting edge on body, bind off. Assembly: Sew in a marking thread down middle of inc sts on each side and mid front. Sew two seams on sewing machine around marking threads, 1st seam = 1/2 sts from thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 sts from 1st seam. Cut up for armhole and mid front. Sew shoulder seams. Fold edges at bottom of body and sleeves double towards WS and sew. Pick up 204 sts (dividable with 6 sts) along left front piece for mid back on circular needle size 3 mm = US 2,5 with black and knit back and forth on needle as follows: M.1, then with black; P1 row, 8 rows stockinette sts, bind off. Repeat along right front piece but after 1 cm = ⅜" knit 7 buttonholes evenly distributed on row - 1 button hole = bind off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts over bind off sts on next row (remember buttonholes on folding edge). Sew on collar mid back. Double edge towards WS over cutting edge and sew. Sew sleeves onto body from RS as follows: Sew alternating a sts in last garter st round of sleeve before edging and a sts on body after machine seam. Turn WS out on jacket out and sew edge from sleeves over cutting edge on body by hand. Sew in buttons. |
