------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 4 GARTER STITCHES – see explanation above. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, work 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES (the yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (the yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 4-4-5-5-5-6-6 buttonholes with 7-7½-6½-7-7-6½-7½ cm = 2¾"-2⅞"-2½"-2¾"-2¾"-2½"-2⅞" between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stockinette stitch and rib. INCREASE TIP: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down, increasing for raglan. Pattern is only worked on the sleeves. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 94-94-94-106-106-106-110 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Sky. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work as follows from the right side: 6 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, then rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 2 and work 6 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib for 3-3-3½-3½-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1¼"-1¼"-1½"-1½"-1½", with the last row from the wrong side. Insert 1 marker inside one band (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker between 2 knitted stitches (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. The raglan-stitches are always worked in stockinette stitch. Count 19-19-19-23-23-23-23 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 16 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 24-24-24-28-28-28-32 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 16 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-1 before the next stitch. There are 19-19-19-23-23-23-23 stitches left (= front piece). From the wrong side: Work the band as before, purl to the next marker, purl 16 and increase AT THE SAME TIME 1 stitch in the middle of these stitches (= 17 sleeve-stitches), purl to the next marker (= back piece), purl 16 and increase AT THE SAME TIME 1 stitch in the middle of these stitches (= 17 sleeve-stitches), purl until there are 6 stitches left, work the band as before = 96-96-96-108-108-108-112 stitches. Continue stockinette stitch and PATTERN (A.1 to A.3) on each sleeve, with 6 band-stitches each side and increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above for how to increase, as follows. NOTE: The arrow shows the last row in each size (applies to A.1 and A.3). Remember to work the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. ROW 1 (right side): Work the band as before, * knit until there is 1 stitch left before the next marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 2, make 1 yarn over, work A.1, A.2, then A.3, make 1 yarn over, knit 2, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* one more time, knit until there are 6 stitches left and work the band as before (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl with the bands as before – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 14-14-15-16-17-18-19 times (28-28-30-32-34-36-38 rows worked) = 208-208-216-236-244-252-264 stitches. Remember to follow the knitting gauge. The increases for the sleeves are finished. Continue stockinette stitch, pattern on the sleeves (A.2) and the bands as before, increasing for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase BEFORE markers 1 and 3 and AFTER markers 2 and 4 (4 increased stitches). Increase like this every 2nd row a total of 5-6-7-6-7-8-7 times = 228-232-244-260-272-284-292 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished: A total of 19-20-22-22-24-26-26 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 14-14-15-16-17-18-19 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stockinette stitch, pattern on the sleeves and the bands as before without further increases, until the yoke measures 13-14-15-15-16-17-18 cm = 5⅛"-5½"-6"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-7" from the marker mid-front, with the last row from the wrong side. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work 39-40-42-46-48-50-50 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 43-43-45-47-49-51-53 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-10-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 64-66-70-74-78-82-86 stitches as before (back piece), place the next 43-43-45-47-49-51-53 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-10-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 39-40-42-46-48-50-50 stitches as before (= front piece piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 154-162-174-186-194-202-206 stitches. Continue the stockinette stitch and bands until the piece measures 28-30-32-35-36-39-45 cm = 11"-11¾"-12½"-13¾"-14¼"-15¼"-17¾" from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 24-28-32-36-36-36-36 stitches evenly on the first row (do not increase across the bands) – read INCREASE TIP = 178-190-206-222-230-238-242 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work the band as before, then rib (knit 2 and purl 2 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 2 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½" bind off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 31-33-35-38-40-43-49 cm = 12¼"-13"-13¾"-15"-15¾"-17"-19¼" from the marker mid-front and 34-36-38-41-43-46-52 cm = 13⅜"-14¼"-15"-16⅛"-17"-18"-20½" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 43-43-45-47-49-51-53 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-10-10-10-10-10 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 49-51-55-57-59-61-63 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-10-10-10-10-10 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Continue A.2 in the round, with 4 stitches mid-under the sleeve always worked in stockinette stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 cm = ⅜", decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 8-10-8-9-10-11-12 cm = 3⅛"-4"-3⅛"-3½"-4"-4⅜"-4¾" 3-3-4-4-4-4-4 times = 43-45-47-49-51-53-55 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 19-24-28-32-35-39-42 cm = 7½"-9½"-11"-12½"-13¾"-15¼"-16½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib (knit 2 and purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 9-7-9-7-9-11-9 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP = 52-52-56-56-60-64-64 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 22-27-31-35-39-43-46 cm = 8¾"-10⅝"-12¼"-13¾"-15¼"-17"-18" from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
