------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Then stitches are cast on for the front neckline and the 2 front pieces are joined. The front piece is worked to the given length. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first one front piece, knit up stitches for one sleeve along the side of the front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the second sleeve along the side of the other front piece. The yoke is continued in the round. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke, stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 28-30-30-30-32-32-32 stitches with circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and DROPS Paris. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 9-9-9-10-10-11-12 times (18-18-18-20-20-22-24 rows worked). After the last increase there are 64-66-66-70-72-76-80 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole (18-18-18-20-20-22-24 stitches), finish by knitting up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge stitch) = 19-19-19-21-21-23-25 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Work stockinette stitch with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 4-5-5-6-7-8-8 cm = 1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛", increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 4, work A.1, knit to end of row (1 increased stitch). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl (remember to work the yarn overs twisted as described in the symbol explanations). ROW 3 (right side): Knit 4, work A.1, knit to end of row (1 increased stitch). ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs twisted). ROW 5 (right side): Knit 4, work A.1, knit to end of row (1 increased stitch). ROW 6 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs twisted). Work ROWS 1 to 6 a total of 2 times (i.e., the diagrams are worked twice in height), then work rows 1 and 2 one more time (14 rows worked) = 26-26-26-28-28-30-32 stitches. The neck-increases are now finished. The yoke measures approx. 10-11-11-12-13-14-14 cm = 4"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½"-5½" from the marker. Some of the neck-depth will lie on the back piece. Neck-depth in front = 9-9-9-10-11-12-12 cm = 3½"-3½"-3½"-4"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾". Neck-depth on back = 1-2-2-2-2-2-2 cm = ⅜"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾". Place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the shoulder on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge stitch) then 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neckline (18-18-18-20-20-22-24 stitches) = 19-19-19-21-21-23-25 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Work stockinette stitch with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 4-5-5-6-7-8-8 cm = 1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛", increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work A.2, knit 4. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl (remember to work the yarn overs twisted as described in the symbol explanations). ROW 3 (right side): Knit until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work A.2, knit 4. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs twisted). ROW 5 (right side): Knit until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work A.2, knit 4. The piece measures approx. FRONT PIECE: On the next row from the right side join the 2 front pieces as follows: Knit across the 26-26-26-28-28-30-32 stitches on the right shoulder, cast on 12-14-14-14-16-16-16 stitches for the neckline, knit across the 26-26-26-28-28-30-32 stitches on the left shoulder = 64-66-66-70-72-76-80 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth until the piece measures 11-12-12-13-14-15-16 cm = 4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½"-6"-6¼" from the marker, with the last row from the wrong side. The front and back pieces are now joined and stitches are knitted up for the sleeves. ROW 1 (right side): Knit the first 2 stitches on the front piece together (1 stitch decreased), knit until there are 2 stitches left on the front piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over (1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, knit up 18-20-20-22-24-26-28 stitches along the left-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches – knit up inside 1 stitch), insert 1 marker, knit the first 2 stitches on the back piece together (1 stitch decreased), knit until there are 2 stitches left on the back piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over (1 decreased stitch), insert 1 marker, knit up 18-20-20-22-24-26-28 stitches along the right-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches – knit up inside 1 stitch), insert 1 marker = 160-168-168-180-188-200-212 stitches. YOKE: Continue in the round. ROUND 1: Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of each sleeve – remember INCREASE TIP-1 – increase towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and towards the right at the end of the sleeve. The stitch count on the sleeves increases but stays the same on the front and back pieces. Work this round 3 times: 24-26-26-28-30-32-34 stitches on each sleeve and 62-64-64-68-70-74-78 stitches on the front and back pieces = 172-180-180-192-200-212-224 stitches. Continue as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of each sleeve as before. The stitch count on the sleeves increases but stays the same on the front and back pieces. ROUND 2: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 5-4-2-3-2-1-1 times (10-8-4-6-4-2-2 rounds worked). A total of 8-7-5-6-5-4-4 increases in height on the sleeves: 34-34-30-34-34-34-36 stitches on each sleeve and 62-64-64-68-70-74-78 stitches on the front and back pieces = 192-196-188-204-208-216-228 stitches. Now increase on both the body and sleeves. The increases on the body are 4 stitches inside the markers = 4 stitches between the increases on the sleeves and body: ROUND 1. Knit 4, work A.1, knit until there are 8 stitches left on the front piece before the marker, work A.2. knit 4, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 4, work A.1, knit until there are 8 stitches left on the back piece before the marker, work A.2, knit 4, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (8 stitches increased: 1 stitch on each side of 4 stitches in each transition between body and sleeves). ROUND 2: Knit without increasing (yarn overs knitted as described in symbol explanations). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 7-8-12-12-15-17-18 times (14-16-24-24-30-34-36 rounds worked – i.e., A.1 and A.2 worked 2-2-4-4-5-5-6 times in height, then you repeat the first 2-4-0-0-0-2-0 rows in A.1/A.2 one more time. A total of 15-15-17-18-20-21-22 increases in height on the sleeves and 7-8-12-12-15-17-18 increases in height on the body: 48-50-54-58-64-68-72 stitches on each sleeve and 76-80-88-92-100-108-114 stitches on the front and back pieces) = 248-260-284-300-328-352-372 stitches. The sleeves measure approx. 12-12-14-15-17-18-19 cm = 4¾"-4¾"-5½"-6"-6¾"-7"-7½"; when the sweater is folded double at the shoulder the piece measures approx. 18-18-20-22-24-26-27 cm = 7"-7"-8"-8¾"-9½"-10¼"-10⅝" from the top of the shoulder and down the armhole. Continue working without further increases until the piece measures 19-20-21-22-24-26-27 cm = 7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9½"-10¼"-10⅝" from the top of the shoulder, down the armhole. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit the first 76-80-88-92-100-108-114 stitches (= front piece), place the next 48-50-54-58-64-68-72 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 76-80-88-92-100-108-114 (= back piece), place the next 48-50-54-58-64-68-72 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 164-176-192-204-220-240-256 stitches. Work stockinette stitch in the round for a further 26-27-28-29-28-27-28 cm = 10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11"-10⅝"-11". Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 28-32-32-36-40-44-44 stitches evenly on the first round = 192-208-224-240-260-284-300 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with rib or Italian bind off. The sweater measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the top of the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 48-50-54-58-64-68-72 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 54-58-62-68-74-80-86 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 1-2-2-2-2-3-3 times every 2nd round, then decrease 2 stitches 0-0-0-1-3-3-4 times every 2 cm = ¾" = 52-54-58-62-64-68-72 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-38-37-36-34-32-31 cm = 14½"-15"-14½"-14¼"-13⅜"-12½"-12¼" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches evenly on the first round = 60-64-68-72-76-80-84 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with rib or Italian bind off. The sleeve measures approx. 40-41-40-39-38-36-35 cm = 15¾"-16⅛"-15¾"-15¼"-15"-14¼"-13¾" from the division. NECK: Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Start from the right side on one shoulder-line and knit up 80-86-86-88-98-100-100 stitches inside 1 stitch around the neckline. Knit 1 round and adjust the stitch count if necessary, it should be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-3½-3½-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1¼"-1¼"-1½"-1½". Knit 3 rounds (= rolled edge). Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Bind off with knit. |
