---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. When increasing stitches in pattern work the increased stitches in stockinette stitch (knit from right side, purl from wrong side) until there is room for one whole square (= 2 stitches) in width. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and purl stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and purl stitch in back loop of stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). KNITTING TIP: When working short row there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular needle. Begin by casting on stitches in the back of neck. Then work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. Then work down to armholes. Now put back piece a side and work the front piece. Front piece is first worked in 2 parts. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from back piece, work pattern while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. Put right and left front piece together when increases for neck are done. Then work front piece down to armholes. Now slip front piece and back piece on to same circular needle and work body downwards in the round on circular needle. Pick up stitches for sleeves around the armholes and work sleeves downwards. First work back and forth with short rows to form a sleeve cap, then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work a neck edge. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 28-32-32-32-32-36 stitches on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 with DROPS Soft Tweed. Now work PATTERN – see explanation above and work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain (pattern begins and ends the same in each side), increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until 3 stitches (work the increased stitches as explained in PATTERN), increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 16-17-19-21-23-24 times in total (= 32-34-38-42-46-48 rows have been worked), after last increase there are = 92-100-108-116-124-132 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker in the side. Now measure piece from here! Work pattern as before with 3 stitches in stockinette stitch in each side - remember to follow the knitting gauge - until piece measures 13-12-12-13-13-13 cm = 5⅛"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛" measured from marker along armhole. Now increase in each side for armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work pattern as before until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before with 3 purl stitches in each side. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 2-4-4-4-4-4 times in total (= 4-8-8-8-8-8 rows have been worked) = 96-108-116-124-132-140 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures 15-15-15-16-16-16 cm = 6"-6"-6"-6¼"-6¼"-6¼", measured from marker along armhole, finish with a row from wrong side. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work left front piece along the left shoulder as explained below. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find left shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder are towards you, left side of piece = left shoulder. Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 32-34-38-42-46-48 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work pattern as follows (work first row from wrong side, i.e. from the side towards the armhole): ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl 3, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain (remember to read the diagram from left to right when working from the wrong side), purl 3. ROW 2 (= right side): Knit 3, continue A.1 until 3 stitches remain, knit 3. Continue pattern back and forth like this. When piece measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜", increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work pattern as before the rest of row. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before with 3 purl stitches in each side. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 8 times in total (= 16 rows worked - work the increased stitches worked as explained in PATTERN) = 40-42-46-50-54-56 stitches, next row is worked from right side. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work right front piece along the shoulder – read explanation below. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the shoulder and pick up stitches out towards the neck as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 32-34-38-42-46-48 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work pattern as follows (work first row from wrong side, i.e. from the neck): ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl 3, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain towards the armhole - NOTE! Begin A.1 from the neck the same way as A.1 ended towards the neck on left front piece, A.1 will then end towards the armhole the same way as A.1 began at the armhole on left front piece), purl 3. ROW 2 (= right side): Knit 3, continue A.1 until 3 stitches remain, knit 3. Continue pattern back and forth like this. When piece measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜", increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work pattern as before until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. Then place the front pieces together as explained below. FRONT PIECE (right and left part together): Work first row as follows from right side: Work established pattern as before over all stitches on right front piece, cast on 12-16-16-16-16-20 stitches for neck at the end of this row, work established pattern as before over all stitches on left front piece = 92-100-108-116-124-132 stitches on needle. Work next row as follows from wrong side: Purl 3, work pattern as before until 3 stitches remain, purl 3. Work until piece measures 25-26-28-29-31-33 cm = 9¾"-10¼"-11"-11⅜"-12¼"-13" from pick up edge. Work until piece measures approx. 27-29-31-32-34-36 cm = 10⅝"-11⅜"-12¼"-12½"-13⅜"-14¼", measured from pick up edge – adjust to finish pattern on same row in diagram as on back piece, i.e. A.1 on front piece should begin and end the same way as A.1 on back piece inside 3 stitches in stockinette stitch in each side - finish with a row from wrong side. Now put front piece and back piece together for body as explained below. Now measure the piece from here. BODY: Work A.1 over all the 96-108-116-124-132-140 stitches from front piece (also over the 3 stitches in stockinette stitch in each side, make sure that the pattern continue correctly from yoke), cast on 4-4-4-4-4-8 new stitches at the end of this row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work A.1 over all the 96-108-116-124-132-140 stitches from back piece, and cast on 4-4-4-4-4-8 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve) = 200-224-240-256-272-296 stitches. Continue established pattern in the round over all stitches on needle. Work the until piece measures 60-62-63-65-66-68 cm = 23⅝"-24⅜"-24¾"-25½"-26"-26¾", measured furthest in towards neck, after knit a round in pattern. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4, work first round as follows: Work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while at the same time increasing 25-28-30-32-34-37 stitches evenly by increasing 1 stitch over every other purl section from A.1 = 225-252-270-288-306-333 stitches. Then work rib as follows: * Knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 3 *, repeat from *-* the entire round. When rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm = 1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜" bind off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sweater measures approx. 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm = 25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛", measured furthest in towards neck. SLEEVES: Sleeve is worked from the armhole and down. Place piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of armhole = mid on top shoulder (NOTE! Mid on top shoulder is not the same place as stitches were picked up for front piece but approx. 6-10 cm = 2⅜"-4" down on front piece). Pick up stitches around armhole, use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4, begin in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve - pick up 76-80-84-88-92-104 stitches - adjust to pick up same number of stitches on each side of marker along armhole. Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Now work A.1 back and forth with short rows over sleeve cap to get a better shape on sleeve, begin round mid under sleeve and work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit from mid under sleeve until 15-15-17-17-19-19 stitches remain before marker on top of shoulder, work A.1 over the next 30-30-34-34-38-38 stitches, turn piece – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work A.1 over the first 32-32-36-36-40-40 stitches, work stitches in A.1, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work A.1 until 2-2-2-2-2-2 stitches have been worked past previous turn, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work A.1 until 2-2-2-2-2-2 stitches have been worked past previous turn, turn piece. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4. Work until 18-18-18-18-18-18 turns have been done in total (= 9-9-9-9-9-9 times in each side and last row is worked from wrong side). AFTER LAST TURN: The last time 4th row is worked finish row by turning piece, then work from right side until beginning of round (mid under sleeve). Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve, this is used when decreasing stitches under sleeve. Move marker thread upwards when working. Continue A.1 in the round over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing under sleeve, read DECREASE TIP and decrease like as follows: When sleeve measures 4-4-4-3-3-2 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾" measure mid under sleeve, decrease 2 stitches every 5½-5-5-3-3-2 cm = 2⅛"-2"-2"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾" 8-8-8-12-12-16 times in total = 60-64-68-64-68-72 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 52-51-49-48-46-45 cm = 20½"-20"-19¼"-19"-18"-17¾" from mid on top shoulder - finish after a knit round over all stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while at the same time increasing 7-8-8-8-8-9 stitches evenly by increasing 1 stitch over every other purl section from A.1, as far as possible around the sleeve = 67-72-76-72-76-81 stitches. Then work rib as follows: * Knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 3 *, work from *-* until 4-0-4-0-4-0 stitches remain, finish with knit 2, purl 2 in size S, L and XXL (in size M, XL and XXXL the rib fits with 9 stitches). When rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm = 1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜" bind off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sleeve measures approx. 56-55-54-53-52-51 cm = 22"-21⅝"-21¼"-21"-20½"-20", measured from mid on top of shoulder. DOUBLE NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Begin from right side at one shoulder line and pick up approx. 88-92-96-98-100-104 stitches around the neck inside outermost stitch, knit 1 round while adjusting number of stitches - number of stitches must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) - adjust the beginning of rib so that the rib mid front fits nicely over stitches cast on in the neck - work the middle stitches with purl over knit and knit over purl from pattern. Work until rib measures 9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜". Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and loosely bind off. Fold the rib down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
