------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the edge stitches as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work the edge stitches as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagram shows all rows from the right side. Remember to read the diagram from left to right when working from the wrong side. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the front and knit the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS RIGHT – from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the back and knit the front loop. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth, top down in 2 sections. Start with one shoulder and increase for the neckline, then work the second shoulder before joining the 2 shoulders for the front piece and working back and forth to finished length. The back piece is worked in the same way. The shoulders are sewn together. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. LEFT FRONT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 39-47-55-63-71-87-95 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Alpaca. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work PATTERN – read explanation above, working from the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 1 GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, work A.1 4-5-6-7-8-10-11 times, then A.2 and finish with 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD – read explanation above. ROW 2 (wrong side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, work A.2, then A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 3-3-3-4-5-6-7 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-2"-2⅜"-2¾", finish after a row from the wrong side. Now increase for the neckline. INCREASE FOR NECKLINE: ROW 1 (right side): Work the first 9 stitches as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left – read INCREASE TIP, work as before to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before – the increased stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 8 times (16 rows worked) = 47-55-63-71-79-95-103 stitches (with the next row from the right side). Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the right front shoulder. RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 39-47-55-63-71-87-95 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Alpaca. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern from the side as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, work A.3, then A.1 3-4-5-6-7-9-10 times, work the first 2 stitches in A.1 and 1 garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): 1 garter stitch, work A.1 until there are 12 stitches left, A.3, and 2 edge stitches I-cord. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 3-3-3-4-5-6-7 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-2"-2⅜"-2¾", finish after a row from the wrong side. Now increase for the neckline. INCREASE FOR NECKLINE: ROW 1 (right side): Work as before until there are 9 stitches left towards the neck, increase 1 stitch towards the right – remember INCREASE TIP, work as before to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before – the increased stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 8 times (16 rows worked) = 47-55-63-71-79-95-103 stitches (with the next row from the right side). Now join the 2 shoulders for the front piece. FRONT PIECE: From the right side: Work the 47-55-63-71-79-95-103 stitches from the right shoulder as before, cast on 44 stitches for the neckline, work the 47-55-63-71-79-95-103 stitches from the left shoulder as before = 138-154-170-186-202-234-250 stitches. Continue the established pattern back and forth with 2 edge stitches I-cord on each side. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-49-51-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¼"-20"-20½"-21¼" from the cast-on edge on the shoulder – finish after row 7 or 14 in the diagram. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, rib (purl 2, knit 2) until there are 4 stitches left, purl 2 and 2 edge stitches I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 and 2 edge stitches I-cord. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the rib measures 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½". Bind off slightly loosely with rib. The vest measures approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the shoulder. RIGHT BACK SHOULDER (when the garment is worn): Cast on 39-47-55-63-71-87-95 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Alpaca. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern from the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 1 garter stitch, work A.1 4-5-6-7-8-10-11 times, then A.2 and finish with 2 edge stitches I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, work A.2, then A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 2 cm = ¾", finish after a row from the wrong side. Now increase for the neckline. INCREASE FOR NECKLINE: ROW 1 (right side): 1 garter stitch, increase 1 stitch towards the left – remember INCREASE TIP, work as before to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before – the increased stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2 times (4 rows worked) = 41-49-57-65-73-89-97 stitches (with the next row from the right side). Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the left back shoulder. LEFT BACK SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 39-47-55-63-71-87-95 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Alpaca. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern from the side as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 2 edge stitches I-cord, work A.3, then A.1 3-4-5-6-7-9-10 times, work the first 2 stitches in A.1 and 1 garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): 1 garter stitch, work A.1 until there are 12 stitches left, A.3, and 2 edge stitches I-cord. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 2 cm = ¾", finish after a row from the wrong side. Now increase for the neckline. INCREASE FOR NECKLINE: ROW 1 (right side): Work as before until there is 1 stitch left by the neck, increase 1 stitch towards the right – remember INCREASE TIP, 1 garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before – the increased stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2 times (4 rows worked) = 41-49-57-65-73-89-97 stitches (with the next row from the right side). Now join the 2 shoulders for the back piece. BACK PIECE: From the right side. Work the 41-49-57-65-73-89-97 stitches from the left shoulder as before, cast on 56 stitches for the neckline, work the 41-49-57-65-73-89-97 stitches from the right shoulder as before = 138-154-170-186-202-234-250 stitches. Continue the established pattern back and forth with 2 edge stitches I-cord on each side until the piece measures 44-46-48-49-51-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¼"-20"-20½"-21¼" from the cast-on edge on the shoulder – finish on the same row as the front piece. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and work the rib in the same way as on the front piece. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams, inside the cast-on edge. NECK: Use circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Start from the right side on one shoulder and knit up 144-148-152-156-160-164-168 stitches around the neckline, inside 1 stitch – the stitch count should be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) – adjusting to make sure the rib matches the pattern neatly mid-front and mid back – for 8-8-9-9-10-10-11 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜". Bind off a little loosely with rib. TIES: Work 2 ties for the sides as follows: Cast on 4 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Knit 1 row. Now work a tube in the round as follows: * Push all stitches to the right-hand end of the needle without turning, tighten the strand and knit all 4 stitches *, work from *-* until the tie measures 120-120-125-125-125-130-130 cm = 47¼"-47¼"-49½"-49½"-49½"-51¼"-51¼", or to desired length. Bind off. Thread each tie through a hole in the pattern on the front and back pieces, approx. 29-32-34-36-38-40-42 cm = 11⅜"-12½"-13⅜"-14¼"-15"-15¾"-16½" down from the shoulder, tie a loose knot. |
