---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): Begin 1 stitch before marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (= 2 stitches increased). I-CORD BIND-OFF: Slip the 3 new stitches from right needle on to left needle so that working yarn is 3 stitches in on left needle (the working yarn tightens the piece when working to form a little tube). ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Do not turn piece. Repeat ROW 1 until 3 stitches remain on right needle. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Bind off. Sew a little stitch that binds beginning/end of I-cord together. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern long and short needles have been used, begin with fitting length and switch as needed. Piece is worked in the round, from the bottom and up to armholes. Divide the piece for front piece and back piece and finish each part separately back and forth. Work sleeves bottom up, and work in the round on needle until armhole, then work sleeve back and forth on row. Sew the parts together and pick up an I-cord around the neck edge. BODY: Cast on 204-224-240-256-276-304 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 with DROPS Air. Work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Switch to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Work pattern as follows: Work A.1 in the round over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME on first round decreasing 20-24-24-24-28-32 stitches evenly = 184-200-216-232-248-272 stitches. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Continue until piece measures approx. 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm = 13"-13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15" - adjust so that next round is an uneven round in pattern. DIVIDING FOR ARMHOLES: On next round divide the piece for front piece and back piece, work from the beginning of round as follows: Bind off 1-5-5-9-9-11 stitches for armhole, work 1 stitch in stockinette stitch, continue A.1 over the next 88-88-96-96-104-112 stitches (= front piece), work 1 stitch in stockinette stitch and bind off 2-10-10-18-18-22 stitches for armhole, work 1 stitch in stockinette stitch, continue A.1 over the next 88-88-96-96-104-112 stitches, work 1 stitch in stockinette stitch (= back piece) and bind off the last 1-5-5-9-9-11 stitches for armhole. Cut the yarn. Slip stitches for front piece on to on a thread. Now finish each part back and forth separately. BACK PIECE: = 90-90-98-98-106-114 stitches. Insert a marker in the middle of back piece - now measure piece from here. Work first row from wrong side. Continue pattern as before with 1 stitch in stockinette stitch in each side. When A.1 has been worked 4 times in total vertically, work stockinette stitch over all stitches until finished measurements, AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from marker, bind off the middle 26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches for neck = 32-32-35-35-38-42 stitches for each shoulder, and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: On next row from the neck bind off 1 stitch for neck (= 31-31-34-34-37-41 stitches for shoulder). On every row from armhole bind off for diagonal shoulder. Bind off 7-7-8-8-9-10 stitches 3 times in total, then bind off the remaining 10-10-10-10-10-11 stitches. Piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" measured on the inside at the neck and down. FRONT PIECE: Slip the 90-90-98-98-106-114 stitches for front piece back on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Insert a marker in the middle of front piece - now measure piece from here. Work first row from wrong side. Continue pattern as before with 1 stitch in stockinette stitch in each side. When A.1 has been worked 4 times in total vertically, work stockinette stitch over all stitches until finished measurements, AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 14 cm = 5½" from marker in all sizes, slip the middle 20-20-22-22-24-24 stitches on a thread for neck (= 35-35-38-38-41-45 stitches for each shoulder), and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Bind off 1 stitch for neck on every row from the neck 4 times in total = 31-31-34-34-37-41 stitches. When piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from marker, bind off for diagonal shoulder on every row from armhole. SLEEVES: Cast on 54-56-58-60-62-64 stitches on double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work 4 rounds in stockinette stitch. Work 3 rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Switch to double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. Work in stockinette stitch while AT THE SAME TIME on first round decreasing 6-6-6-6-6-6 stitches evenly = 48-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. Insert a marker thread at the beginning of round and move the marker thread upwards when working, it is used later for increase mid under sleeve. When piece measures 8 cm = 3⅛", increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 5-4-3½-3-2½-2½ cm = 2"-1½"-1¼"-1⅛"-1"-1" 8-9-10-11-12-12 times in total = 64-68-72-76-80-82 stitches. Work until piece measures 46-45-44-43-42-40 cm = 18"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½"-15¾". Now work in stockinette stitch back and forth from marker mid under sleeve, until sleeve measures 47-48-47-48-47-46 cm = 18½"-19"-18½"-19"-18½"-18", i.e. there is a vent of approx. 1-3-3-5-5-6 cm = ⅜"-1⅛"-1⅛"-2"-2"-2⅜" mid under sleeve. Bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew sleeves to body at the top, vent at the top of sleeve is sewn to the bottom of armhole - see chart. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle / double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4, pick up stitches around the neck from right side as follows: Begin at one shoulder seam and pick up approx. 84 to 102 stitches (including stitches on thread mid front). At the end of round cast on 3 new stitches on right needle from right side, do not turn the piece. Use a double pointed needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and bind off all stitches with I-CORD BIND-OFF - read explanation above. |
