------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down. The yoke is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 76-80-84-88-92-92 stitches with DROPS Melody using short circular needles size 4 and 5.5 MM = US 9 held together. Remove the needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 (this gives you an elastic cast-on edge). Work rib in the round as follows: Knit 1 * purl 2, knit 2 * work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2 and knit 1. Work this rib for 9 cm = 3½". Fold the neck double to the inside and work 1 more round of rib, working every 4th stitch together with its corresponding stitch on the cast-on edge. You now have a double neck. Knit 1 round and increase 24-26-28-28-30-30 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 100-106-112-116-122-122 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the round (mid-front), the yoke is measured from this marker. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9. Work stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the yoke measures 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2"-2" from the marker, increase 32-34-36-38-40-40 stitches evenly spaced = 132-140-148-154-162-162 stitches. Work A.1 around the yoke. AT THE SAME TIME on each round marked with an arrow in A.1 increase stitches as follows. Arrow-1: Increase 26-28-30-34-36-40 stitches evenly spaced = 158-168-178-188-198-202 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 24-26-28-32-36-40 stitches evenly spaced = 182-194-206-220-234-242 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 16-22-19-32-36-37 stitches evenly spaced = 198-216-225-252-270-279 stitches (now room for 22-24-25-28-30-31 repeats of A.1 in width). Arrow-4: Increase 22-20-23-24-22-33 stitches evenly spaced = 220-236-248-276-292-312 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 21-21-22-24-25-27 cm = 8¼"-8¼"-8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10⅝" from the marker. Divide for the body and sleeves as described below (in some sizes A.1 will not have been finished before dividing and will be continued on the body and sleeves). Work 34-36-38-42-44-48 stitches as before (half back piece), place the next 42-44-46-52-56-58 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work 68-74-78-86-90-98 stitches (front piece), place the next 42-44-46-52-56-58 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work the last 34-38-40-44-46-50 stitches (half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 148-160-172-188-200-220 stitches. Finish A.1 if necessary. Then work stockinette stitch until the body measures 23-25-26-26-27-27 cm = 9"-9¾"-10¼"-10¼"-10⅝"-10⅝" from the division. Knit 1 round and increase 28-30-34-38-42-42 stitches evenly spaced = 176-190-206-226-242-262 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 5 cm = 2". Bind off a little loosely. The sweater measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 42-44-46-52-56-58 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5.5 MM = US 9 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the new stitches cast on under the sleeve = 48-50-54-60-66-70 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Continue in the round with pattern A.1 if necessary, then work stockinette stitch. When the sleeve measures 4-4-4-3-3-3 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛" decrease 2 stitches mid under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 4-4-4-6½-3½-3 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-2½"-1¼"-1⅛" a total of 2-2-3-5-8-9 times = 44-46-48-50-50-52 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 36-36-36-34-33-32 cm = 14¼"-14¼"-14¼"-13⅜"-13"-12½" from the division (or to desired length. There is approx. 7 cm = 2¾" left). Knit 1 round and increase 12-14-16-14-14-16 stitches evenly spaced = 56-60-64-64-64-68 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 7 cm = 2¾". Bind off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 43-43-43-41-40-39 cm = 17"-17"-17"-16⅛"-15¾"-15¼" from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
