------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge in height = 2 rounds; Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. DECREASE TIP (for sides of body): Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). INCREASE TIP (for sides of body): Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The body is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes. Then the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, bottom up as far as the armhole, then the sleeve cap is finished back and forth. The piece is sewn together and the neck worked to finish. BODY: Cast on 192-214-232-258-280-312 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and Alpaca. Work 4 RIDGES in the round – read description above. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker thread after 96-107-116-129-140-156 stitches (= sides). Allow the threads to follow your work onwards; they are used when decreasing/increasing in the sides. The first round is worked as follows: * 5-6-6-8-9-8 stitches in stockinette stitch, work A.1 (= 9 stitches), A.2 over the next 72-81-90-99-108-126 stitches (= 8-9-10-11-12-14 repeats of 9 stitches), A.3 (= 5 stitches), 5-6-6-8-9-8 stitches in stockinette stitch, marker thread *, work from *-* one more time. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 4 cm = 1½", decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Repeat the decrease when the piece measures 8 cm = 3⅛" = 184-206-224-250-272-304 stitches. When the piece measures 12-12-13-13-13-13 cm = 4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛", increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every 4-4-4½-4½-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2" a total of 4 times in each side = 200-222-240-266-288-320 stitches. When the piece measures 28-29-30-31-32-33 cm = 11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-12½"-13", bind off for the armholes on the next round as follows: Start 3-3-4-4-5-5 stitches before the marker thread at the beginning of the round and bind off 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches, work until there are 3-3-4-4-5-5 stitches left before the next marker thread and bind off 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches, work to the end of the round. Back and front pieces are finished separately. BACK PIECE: = 94-105-112-125-134-150 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth and bind off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: Bind off 3 stitches 0-0-1-1-2-3 times, 2 stitches 1-2-2-4-4-5 times and 1 stitch 3-5-5-6-6-8 times on each side = 84-87-88-91-94-96 stitches. Continue the pattern with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH on each side – read description above. NOTE: The stitches which do not fit into the lace pattern by the armholes are worked in stockinette stitch. When the piece measures 45-47-49-51-53 55 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝", bind off the middle 34-35-36-37-40-40 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue the pattern and bind off 2 stitches on the next row from the neck = 23-24-24-25-25-26 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½". Bind off with knit from the right side. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 94-105-112-125-134-150 stitches. Continue the pattern with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. NOTE: The stitches which do not fit into the lace pattern by the armholes are worked in stockinette stitch. When the piece measures 39-41-42-44-45-47 cm = 15¼"-16⅛"-16½"-17¼"-17¾"-18½", place the middle 18-19-20-21-24-24 stitches on 1 thread for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue the pattern and bind off for the neck at the beginning of each row from the neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 3 times and 1 stitch 4 times = 23-24-24-25-25-26 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½". Bind off with knit from the right side. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 64-72-80-84-92-100 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and Alpaca. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of the round and allow it to follow your work onwards; it marks mid-under the sleeve. Work 4 ridges in the round. Then work A.4. When A.4 has been completed, work the next round as follows: * knit 2, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* to the end of the round = 96-108-120-126-138-150 stitches. Change to double pointed needles/short circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work 1 round of stockinette stitch, where the yarn overs are knitted twisted to avoid holes. Then continue with stockinette stitch. When the piece measures 17-16-16-15-15-13 cm = 6¾"-6¼"-6¼"-6"-6"-5⅛", bind off stitches mid-under the sleeve as follows: Start 4 stitches before the marker thread, bind off 8 stitches and work to the end of the round. Finish the sleeve cap back and forth, at the same time as you bind off stitches at the beginning of each row as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 13-15-16-18-19-23 times on each side = 58-66-76-78-88-92 stitches. There are 2 rows left before the sleeve measures 27-27-28-28-29-29 cm = 10⅝"-10⅝"-11"-11"-11⅜"-11⅜". On the next row from the right side, knit together the first 4-0-4-6-4-2 stitches, 2 and 2 (= 2-0-2-3-2-1 stitches decreased), then knit together the remaining 54-66-72-72-84-90 stitches, 3 and 3 = 20-22-26-27-30-31 stitches left. Purl 1 row. Bind off with knit from the right side. The sleeve measures approx. 27-27-28-28-29-29 cm = 10⅝"-10⅝"-11"-11"-11⅜"-11⅜". Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the bind-off edges. Sew in the sleeves, inside the 1 edge stitch along the armholes. NECK: Start from the right side on the one shoulder and knit up 96 to 112 stitches around the neck (including the stitches from the thread in front) with short circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and Alpaca. Start on row 2 in A.4 and work A.4 in the round. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 when A.4 is finished and bind off with knit from the right side. |
