Takk for svar. -Hilde Bialach

Thank you I get it now! Sorry but I am trying to help my 90 year old mum to work out what to do - I've never knitted things with thumbs before! Thank you so much.

Hi again - you must think me very silly! I still do not understand. You start with 48 stitches, put 2 with the thumb stitches leaving 46 stitches and then you cast on 3 stitches making 49 stitches not 48. What am I missing?
14.11.2012 - 19:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sandra, you start with 48 sts then inc 2 sts a total of 6 times : 48 + 12 = 60 sts then put 15 sts on a st holder for thumb = 45 sts left + cast on 3 sts behind thumb = 48 sts. Happy Knitting :)

Sandra wrote:
Thankyou. So why if you take off 2 stitches do you have to cast on 3 stitches to get back to the original number?
14.11.2012 - 11:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sandra, you have to cast on 3 sts behind the 15 sts for the thumb you put on the stitch holder to get back 48 sts for the hand. By working the thumb, you will pick up 5 sts in the border over thumb gousset (hand part). Happy Knitting !

Is there a mistake in this pattern? Should it say to cast on 2 stitches instead of 3 when adjusting after removing the thumb stitches? Thank you for your help.
11.11.2012 - 18:30DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sandra, it should be correct. I checked the English pattern with Norwegian original version.

Switch to circular needle size 3 mm / US 2.5 and work 1-4 rounds in stockinette st – AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round dec 0-2 sts evenly = 140-150 sts. Continue with diagram A-1 (= 14-15 repetitions in the round). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When diagram has been worked, piece measures approx. 22-23 cm / 8¾"-9" vertically and 28-30 sts remain on needle. K 1 round with old pink while at the same time K2 tog around= 14-15 sts remain on needle. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER: Worked in the round from bottom up. Cast on 288-320 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with light camel eco. Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 6 rounds. Switch to circular needle size 3 mm / US 2.5. Work next round as follows: * K 2, K 2 tog *, repeat from *-* = 216-240 sts. Continue with diagram A-2. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! After A-2, finish piece with light camel eco – AT THE SAME TIME insert 12 markers in the piece 18-20 sts apart. On 2nd round after A-2, dec 1 st before every marker by K 2 tog. Repeat dec every 3rd-5th round 5 more times = 144-168 sts. Piece measures approx. 11-14 cm / 4½"-5½". Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 and work rib = K 2/P 2 for 10-11 cm / 4"-4½". Cast on 60 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with light camel eco. Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 12 cm / 4¾". Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5. Then work 1 round in stockinette st while at the same time dec 12 sts evenly = 48 sts. Continue with diagram A-3 (= 4 repetitions in the round). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When reaching the row marked with 1 arrow in diagram, beg inc for thumb gusset as follows: Make 1 YO on each side of thumb st (= square with star), on next round K YO twisted to avoid holes. Repeat inc every 3rd round 5 more times = 13 thumb sts. NOTE: Thumb sts are worked according to diagram A-4. When A-4 has been worked, slip the 13 thumb sts + 1 st on each side of these on a stitch holder (= 15 sts on stitch holder). On next round, cast on 3 new sts behind thumb sts = 48 sts. Work until A-3 has been worked. Now work 1 round in stockinette st with light camel eco while at the same time inc 8 sts evenly = 56 sts. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 and continue with rib = K 2/P 2 for 5 rounds, bind off with K over K and P over P. The entire wrist warmer measures approx. 25 cm / 9¾". THUMB: Work entire thumb in old pink. Slip the sts over thumb gusset on to double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and in addition pick up 5 sts in the edge behind the thumb sts = 20 sts. Work 3 rounds in stockinette st. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 and continue with rib = K 2/P 2 for 5 rounds, bind off with K over K and P over P. |
