Dear Mrs Read, after picking sts, you work Rib-2 (=K3/P3), then inc P1 in each P3 section to get Rib-1 (=K3,P4)around. To inc, Kfb last K st before P section. Happy knitting!

Hei.

Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm Pattern: See the chart. The pattern is seen from the right side. «midten» = «middle» Knitting tips (for raglan shaping): Dec 1 st inside 2 edge sts in stockinette st, as follows: From right side: After 2 edge sts: Slip 1 st as if to knit, K 1, psso. Before 2 edge sts: K 2 tog. From wrong side: After 2 edge sts: P 2 tog, twisting sts (this is most easily accomplished by slipping 2 sts as if to P, return them to left needle, twisting each before placing on left needle, then P 2 tog). Before 2 edge sts: P 2 tog. Rib-1: * K 3, P 4 *, repeat * - *. Rib-2: * K 3, P 3 *, repeat * - *. Back: Cast on 24-32-40-40-50 sts on larger needles and knit stockinette st, increasing for rounded edge at each side as follows: loosely cast on 4-4-4-5-5 new sts at each side every other row (that is, at the end of every row) 6 times = 72-80-88-100-110 sts. Put a marker at each side – measure the work from here. When the piece measures 2 cm from marker inc 1 st at each side every 2-2-2-3-3 cm a total of 6-6-6-5-5 times = 84-92-100-110-120 sts. When the piece measures 15-16-17-18-18 cm bind off 4-5-6-7-9 sts at each side for armhole. Then dec 1 st at each side for raglan – see knitting tips above: every 4 rows 5-4-2-0-0 times and then every other row 14-18-23-28-30 times = 38-38-38-40-42 sts, put sts on a st holder. Left front: Read entire front section before knitting: Cast on 10-12-14-19-24 sts on larger needles and knit stockinette st, increasing for rounded edge at the center front edge as follows: loosely cast on new sts every other row (that is, at the end of every row, ending at center front edge): 3 sts 1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 sts 3-4-5-5-5 times and 1 st 7-7-7-5-5 times. At the same time when the piece measures 2 cm inc at the side as on back = 32-36-40-45-50 sts. When the piece measures 15-16-17-18-18 cm bind off 4-5-6-7-9 sts at the side for armhole. Then shape raglan at the side as on back – see knitting tips above. At the same time when the piece measures 17-17-18-18-18 cm dec 1 st at the center front edge a total of 9-9-9-10-11 times: Size S: alternately every 4th and 5th rows Sizes M + L: every 5th row Sizes XL + XXL: alternately every 5th and 6th rows. All sts are now bound off. Right front: Knit the same as the left, reversing shaping. Sleeve: Cast on 51-58-58-65-65 sts on smaller circular needles and P 1 row (wrong side row), then knit Rib-1, keeping 1 edge st at each side in garter st. When the piece measures 3 cm dec all P 4 to P 3 (Rib-2) = 44-50-50-56-56 sts. Continue in Rib-2 until the piece measures 14 cm, ending on a wrong side row, then K 2 rows. Change to larger needles and Pattern 1, keeping 1 edge st at each side in garter st – center the pattern on the sleeve (see arrow on chart indicating «midten» or «middle») and calculate where on the chart to start (half the sts each side of the arrow) – the sts that don’t work up in an entire pattern repeat are knit in stockinette st. At the same time when the piece measures 16-18-16-16-16 cm inc 1 st at each side every 2-2-2-2-1.5 cm a total of 15-14-16-15-19 times = 74-78-82-86-94 sts – knit the increased sts in stockinette until there are enough sts for a pattern repeat. When the piece measures 47-48-48-47-46 cm bind off 4-5-6-7-9 sts at each side. Then dec 1 st at each side for raglan – see knitting tips above: every other row: 21-23-25-26-30 times and then every row: 5-4-3-3-1 times = 14 sts remain on needles – knit the sts that do not make an entire pattern repeat in stockinette st. Put sts on a st holder and knit second sleeve. Assembly: Sew raglan seams using 1 edge st as seam allowance. Sew sleeve and side seams using edge sts as a seam allowance. Rib: Pick up approx. 336-354-372-408-450 sts (incl. sts from st holders) around entire opening of the cardigan (up along right front, across back neck, down along left front and around lower back) on smaller circular needles (make sure picked up sts are divisible by 6) – be sure that you pick up enough sts on each front so that the rib will not be too tight in the rounded edge. Join and knit in the round as follows: P 1 row, K 1 row, then knit Rib-2. When the rib measures 2-3-3-4-4 cm inc all P 3 to P 4 (Rib-1) = approx. 392-413-434-476-525 sts – make incs by knitting 2 sts in last K st before the P sts, so that the «bump» will appear as a P. When the rib measures 5-6-6-7-7 cm inc all P 4 to P 5 = approx. 448-472-496-544-600 sts. When the rib measures 8-9-9-10-10 cm inc all P 5 to P 6 but do not inc over the center 81-81-81-87-93 sts in back neck = approx. 491-518-545-598-660 sts. Knit 1 row rib and then bind off in rib. Flower brooch: Ch 20 loosely. 1st row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, then 3 sc in each of the next 2 ch. Then 3 hdc in each of the next 3 ch, 3 dc in each of the next 6 ch, 3 tc in each of the next 6 ch and then 5 tc in last ch, turn the work. 2nd row: 1 sc in first st, * ch 3, 1 sc in the next st * repeat * - * to last 9 sts, cut yarn and fasten. Lay the strip so that it will spiral, with the smallest end on top, the largest end on the bottom, fasten all layers with a stitch. Sew a safety pin on back side. |
