---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- ELEVATION: To make the sweater higher in the back of neck when working round yoke, knit an elevation as explained below. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of round, read KNITTING TIP and work the next 6 rows back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (from right side): Knit 13-14-15-16-17-18-19 stitches past marker thread at the beginning of round (= mid back), turn piece. ROW 2: Purl 26-28-30-32-34-36-38 stitches, turn piece. ROW 3: Knit 39-42-45-48-51-54-57 stitches, turn piece. ROW 4: Purl 52-56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches, turn piece. ROW 5: Knit 65-70-75-80-85-90-95 stitches, turn piece. ROW 6: Purl 78-84-90-96-102-108-114 stitches, turn piece. Knit until marker mid back. Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for correct size. INCREASE TIP-1: To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 128 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 10) = 12.8. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 13th stitch. On next round knit yarn over twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2: Increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 5 stitches remain before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 10 (marker thread is in the middle of these 10 stitches), make 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On next round knit yarn over twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from mid back, work top down. If an elevation in the back of neck is worked after the neck edge, work the elevation back and forth on needle before working the rest of the piece in the round. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 stitches is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information and jump to next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 128-132-136-144-148-156-164 stitches on circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 with DROPS Nord. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 2 /purl 2) for 2-2-2½-2½-3-3-3 cm = ¾"-¾"-1"-1"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛". Beginning of round is mid back. Insert 1 marker after the first 43-44-45-48-49-52-54 stitches on round (= approx. mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5, work 1 round in stockinette stitch while increasing 10-10-12-12-14-14-16 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP-1= 138-142-148-156-162-170-180 stitches. Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above, then work as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, work as explained below. Now work PATTERN – see explanation above and work A.1 in the round on yoke. Continue pattern like this. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! AT THE SAME TIME on every round marked with arrow in A.1 increase stitches evenly as explained below - remember INCREASE TIP-1: Arrow-1: Increase 28-30-32-36-38-38-40 stitches evenly = 166-172-180-192-200-208-220 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 36-40-42-50-54-52-54 stitches evenly = 202-212-222-242-254-260-274 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 238-252-266-292-310-312-330 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 274-292-310-342-366-364-386 stitches. Arrow-5: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 310-332-354-392-422-416-442 stitches. Arrow-6: Increase 0-0-0-0-0-52-56 stitches evenly = 310-332-354-392-422-468-498 stitches. When A.1 has been worked, yoke measures approx. 13-13-13-15-15-18½-18½ cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛"-6"-6"-7⅛"-7⅛" from marker. Work in stockinette stitch. When yoke measures 15-15-16-18-18-21-22 cm = 6"-6"-6¼"-7"-7"-8¼"-8¾" from marker, increase 34-40-42-48-54-52-54 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP-1= 344-372-396-440-476-520-552 stitches. When yoke measures 18-18-19-20-21-23-25 cm = 7"-7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-9"-9¾" from marker mid front, divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 48-53-57-63-68-76-83 stitches in stockinette stitch (= half back piece), slip the next 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 96-106-114-126-136-152-166 stitches in stockinette stitch (= front piece), slip the next 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 stitches on a thread for sleeve, 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 48-53-57-63-68-76-83 stitches in stockinette stitch (= half back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 208-228-248-272-296-328-360 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in each side on body, in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 stitches cast on under each sleeve and move the marker thread when working, use the marker threads when increasing in the side on body. Work in stockinette stitch in the round. When piece measures 6-6-6-6-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" from division, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads - read INCREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every 6-6-6-6-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 times in total = 220-240-260-284-312-344-376 stitches. Work until piece measures 39-41-43-44-45-47-49 cm = 15¼"-16⅛"-17"-17¼"-17¾"-18½"-19¼" from marker mid front. Switch to circular needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5, work rib (= knit 2/2 stitches in garter stitch) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 12-16-20-24-24-24-24 stitches evenly on 1st round = 232-256-280-308-336-368-400 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛" bind off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sweater measures 41-43-45-46-48-50-52 cm = 16⅛"-17"-17¾"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½" from marker mid front and approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 stitches cast on under sleeve- read SLEEVE TIP = 84-88-94-104-114-120-124 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle while AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from division, decreasing mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-2-1-0 times on every 3-3-3-3-3-2-0 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾"-0" in total = 80-84-90-100-110-118-124 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 6-7-7-7-6-4-2 cm = 2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾"-2⅜"-1½"-¾" from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and work rib (= knit 2/2 stitches in garter stitch) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 4-4-6-4-6-6-8 stitches evenly on 1st round = 84-88-96-104-116-124-132 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛" bind off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sleeve measures approx. 8-9-9-9-9-7-5 cm = 3⅛"-3½"-3½"-3½"-3½"-2¾"-2" from division. |
