---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from RIGHT SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit in the stitch loop that is on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from RIGHT SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit in the stitch loop that is on the front side of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from WRONG SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and purl in the stitch loop that is on the front side of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from WRONG SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and purl in the stitch loop that is on the back side of the needle. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.8. Begin at arrow for correct size (applies to A.1, A.2, A.3, A.6 and A.7). Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Read the diagram from right to left when working from right side and from left to right when working from wrong side. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cable only on front piece. Begin by casting on stitches in the back of neck. Then work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. Then work down to armholes. Now put back piece a side and work the front piece. Front piece is first worked in 2 parts. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from back piece, work pattern while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. Put right and left front piece together when increases for neck are done. Then work front piece down to armholes. Now slip front piece and back piece on to same circular needle and work body downwards in the round on circular needle. Pick up stitches for sleeves around the armholes and work sleeves downwards. First work back and forth with short rows to form a sleeve cap, then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work a neck edge. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 27-29-29-29-31-31-31 stitches on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 with DROPS Air. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 13-13-14-15-15-16-17 times (= 26-26-28-30-30-32-34 rows have been worked), after increase there are = 79-81-85-89-91-95-99 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker in the side. Now measure piece from here! Continue in stockinette stitch - remember to follow the knitting gauge - until piece measures 10-10-10-10-10-10-8 cm = 4"-4"-4"-4"-4"-4"-3⅛" measured from the marker at the edge along the armhole. Now increase in each side for armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 2-3-4-4-5-7-9 times in total (= 4-6-8-8-10-14-18 rows have been worked) = 83-87-93-97-101-109-117 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures 12-13-14-14-15-16-16 cm = 4¾"-5⅛"-5½"-5½"-6"-6¼"-6¼", measured from marker along armhole, finish with a row from wrong side. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work left front piece along the left shoulder as explained below. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find left shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, left side of piece = left shoulder. Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 26-26-28-30-30-32-34 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work first row from wrong side as follows: Purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14, knit 1, purl 4 while at the same time increasing 2 stitches evenly over these, knit 2, purl 13 = 28-28-30-32-32-34-36 stitches. Then work PATTERN – see explanation above and work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work A.1, A.2, A.3, A.4, 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.4, work A.3, A.2, A.1 – from wrong side always work knit over knit and purl over purl. Repeat 1st and 2nd ROW until A.1 has been worked vertically 1 time, piece now measures approx. 11-11-13-13-15-15-15 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-5⅛"-5⅛"-6"-6"-6" from pick-up edge = 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches (work next row from right side). Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work right front piece along the shoulder – read explanation below. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the shoulder and pick up stitches out towards the neck as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 26-26-28-30-30-32-34 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work first row from wrong side as follows: Purl 13, knit 2, purl 4 while at the same time increasing 2 stitches evenly over these, knit 1, purl 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 = 28-28-30-32-32-34-36 stitches. Then work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.5, A.6, A.2, A.7. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work A.7, A.2, A.6, A.5, 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch – from wrong side always work knit over knit and purl over purl. Repeat 1st and 2nd ROW until A.7 has been worked vertically 1 time, piece now measures approx. 11-11-13-13-15-15-15 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-5⅛"-5⅛"-6"-6"-6" from pick-up edge = 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches (work next row from right side). Do not cut the yarn. Now put front pieces together as explained below. FRONT PIECE (right and left part together): Work next row as follows from right side: Work the 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches from right front piece as follows: Work 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.5, A.6, A.2, A.2, A.3, cast on 13 new stitches for neck (= A.8) at the end of row, work the 41-41-43-45-45-47-49 stitches from left front piece as follows: Work A.6, A.2, A.2, A.3, A.4, 6-6-8-10-10-12-14 stitches in stockinette stitch = 95-95-99-103-103-107-111 stitches on needle. Work the new stitches cast on for neck in A.8 – adjust so that A.8 is cabled on same row as A.4 and A.5. Work pattern back and forth until piece measures 28-27-27-29-29-28-28 cm = 11"-10⅝"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11⅜"-11"-11". Now increase in each side for armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work as before until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – work the increased stitches in stockinette stitch. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Knit over knit and purl over purl. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 2-4-5-5-7-9-11 times in total (= 4-8-10-10-14-18-22 rows have been worked) = 99-103-109-113-117-125-133 stitches on needle. Work as before until piece measures 30-31-32-34-35-36-38 cm = 11¾"-12¼"-12½"-13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-15", finish with a row from wrong side. Now put front piece and back piece together for body as explained below. Now measure the piece from here. BODY: Work the 99-103-109-113-117-125-133 stitches from front piece as before, cast on 2-4-6-8-12-14-16 new stitches at the end of this row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work the 83-87-93-97-101-109-117 stitches from back piece as before and cast on 2-4-6-8-12-14-16 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) = 186-198-214-226-242-262-282 stitches on needle. Work in the round in pattern as before – work the new stitches under sleeve in stockinette stitch. Work until piece measures approx. 30-31-32-31-32-33-33 cm = 11¾"-12¼"-12½"-12¼"-12½"-13"-13" from armhole – adjust so that last round is worked without cables. Switch to circular needles size 3.5 MM = US 4, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 14-18-18-22-22-26-30 stitches evenly on 1st round (do not increase over cables) = 200-216-232-248-264-288-312 stitches. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sweater measures approx. 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm = 24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛", measured furthest in towards neck. SLEEVES: Sleeve is worked from the armhole and down. Place piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of armhole = mid on top shoulder, note that mid on top of shoulder is not the same place as where stitches were picked up for front piece but 9 to 11 cm = 3½" to 4⅜" down on front piece. Pick up stitches around the armhole, use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Begin in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve - pick up 68-74-80-86-94-100-106 stitches – adjust to pick up same number of stitches on each side of marker. Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. To get a better shape work stockinette stitch on short rows back and forth over sleeve cap, begin round mid under sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 7 stitches past marker on top of shoulder, turn piece – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 7 stitches past marker, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work 3 stitches past last turn, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work 3 stitches past last turn, turn piece. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4. Work until 12-14-14-16-18-20-24 turns have been done in total (= 6-7-7-8-9-10-12 times in each side and last row is worked from wrong side). AFTER LAST TURN: The last time 4th row is worked finish row by turning piece, then work from right side until beginning of round (mid under sleeve). Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve, marker thread is used when decreasing stitches under sleeve. Move marker thread upwards when working. Now work in the round in stockinette stitch over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing under sleeve, read DECREASE TIP and decrease like this: When sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" mid under sleeve, decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-2-3-3 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches every 7-5-3½-3-2-2-1½ cm = 2¾"-2"-1¼"-1⅛"-¾"-¾"-½" 7-9-12-14-18-19-22 times in total = 50-52-52-54-54-56-56 stitches on row. Work until sleeve measures 53-53-53-52-52-52-52 cm = 21"-21"-21"-20½"-20½"-20½"-20½" from mid on top shoulder. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 10 stitches evenly on 1st round = 60-62-62-64-64-66-66 stitches. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 58-58-58-58-58-58-58 cm = 22¾"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾" from mid on top of shoulder. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Begin from right side at one pick-up edge and pick up 78-82-86-86-94-94-94 stitches around the neck inside 1 stitch - number of stitches must be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for 4-4-4½-4½-4½-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2". Bind off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
