---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 4 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 6 stitches remain on row, work 4 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over from right side. On next row work yarn overs as explained below: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCH: Purl yarn overs in back loop of stitches to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. AFTER RAGLAN STITCH: Slip stitch off left needle and put it back on left needle but the opposite way (insert left needle from behind when slipping it back on needle). Purl yarn overs in front loop of stitches to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 5-5-6-6-6-6-6 buttonholes, approx. 9½-10-8½-8½-9-9½-9½ cm = 3⅝"-4"-3¼"-3¼"-3½"-3⅝"-3⅝" apart. I-CORD BIND OFF-1 (applies to body): When last row is worked from wrong side, begin bind-off as follows: BEGINNING (= wrong side): At the end of row from wrong side cast on 3 new stitches on right needle. Turn piece. ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Do not turn piece (the working yarn tightens the piece when working to form a little tube). Repeat 1st ROW until 3 stitches remain. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Bind off. Sew a little stitch that binds beginning/end of I-cord to the garment. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). I-CORD BIND OFF-2 (applies to sleeves): When last round is worked, begin bind-off as follows: BEGINNING (= right side): Cast on 3 new stitches on right needle from right side. Slip the 3 new stitches from right needle to left needle so that working yarn is 3 stitches in on left needle (the working yarn tightens the piece when working to form a little tube). ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Do not turn piece. Repeat 1st ROW until 3 stitches remain. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Bind off. Sew a little stitch that binds beginning/end of I-cord together. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 79-79-83-83-89-93-93 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 with DROPS Alpaca Bouclé and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (= 2 strands). Work first row as follows from right side: Work 6 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until 7 stitches remain on row, knit 1 and 6 stitches band with I-cord. Continue rib like this for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2". Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Continue with circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Knit 1 round while at the same time increasing 9-9-9-9-11-11-11 stitches evenly = 70-70-74-74-78-82-82 stitches. Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch, these stitches are called raglan stitches and increase is done for raglan on each side of raglan stitches. Count 16-16-17-17-18-19-19 stitches (= front piece), insert 1st marker in next stitch, Count 7 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker in next stitch, count 20-20-22-22-24-26-26 stitches (= back piece), insert 3rd marker in next stitch, count 7 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker in next stitch. 16-16-17-17-18-19-19 stitches remain on row for right front piece. Work in stockinette stitch back and forth with bands as before and increase for RAGLAN on each side of raglan stitches - read explanation above for increase method. Remember to decrease for BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Increase for raglan every other row, increase on each side for raglan stitches 14-15-17-18-18-18-19 times in total = 182-190-210-218-222-226-234 stitches (= 8 stitches increased on every increase row). Increases for sleeve are now done, but continue to increase for raglan on front piece and back piece on every other row 2-3-2-2-3-4-5 more times = 190-202-218-226-234-242-254 stitches on needle (= 4 stitches increased on every increase row). Work in stockinette stitch without increase until piece measures 22-24-25-27-28-30-32 cm = 8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10⅝"-11"-11¾"-12½" from marker mid front. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 33-35-37-38-40-42-44 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 54-58-62-64-68-72-76 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 33-35-37-38-40-42-44 stitches as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 132-144-152-160-172-184-192 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch and bands as before until piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from marker mid front - work last row from wrong side. Bind off with I-CORD-1 - read explanation above. Jacket measures 51-53-55-57-59-61-63 cm = 20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24"-24¾" from marker mid front and approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 35-37-41-43-43-43-45 sleeve stitches from one thread on circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 41-45-49-53-55-57-59 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-14-14 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 6-6-4-3½-3-4-3 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-1½"-1¼"-1⅛"-1½"-1⅛" 3-3-4-4-4-3-3 times in total = 35-39-41-45-47-51-53 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 18-17-16-15-14-13-12 cm = 7"-6¾"-6¼"-6"-5½"-5⅛"-4¾" from division. On next round increase 3 stitches evenly = 38-42-44-48-50-54-56 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 21-20-19-18-17-16-15 cm = 8¼"-8"-7½"-7"-6¾"-6¼"-6" from division. On next round increase 4 stitches evenly = 42-46-48-52-54-58-60 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 41-40-39-38-37-36-35 cm = 16⅛"-15¾"-15¼"-15"-14½"-14¼"-13¾" from division. On next round decrease 13-15-15-16-16-16-17 stitches evenly = 29-31-33-36-38-42-43 stitches. Bind off with I-CORD-2 - read explanation above. Sleeve measures approx. 42-41-40-39-38-37-36 cm = 16½"-16⅛"-15¾"-15¼"-15"-14½"-14¼" from division. |
