---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.8. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from right side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and purl stitch in front loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from wrong side: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and purl stitch in back loop of stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). KNITTING TIP: When working short row there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular needle. Begin by casting on stitches in the back of neck. Then work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. Then work down to armholes. Now put back piece a side and work the front piece. Front piece is first worked in 2 parts. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from back piece, work pattern while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. Put right and left front piece together when increases for neck are done. Then work front piece down to armholes. Now slip front piece and back piece on to same circular needle and work body downwards in the round on circular needle. Pick up stitches for sleeves around the armholes and work sleeves downwards. First work back and forth with short rows to form a sleeve cap, then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck, and work a neck edge. Fold the neck edge double against the wrong side and fasten. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Then work PATTERN - read explanation above. Cast on 32-32-36-36-40-40 stitches on circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 with DROPS Lima or DROPS Merino Extra Fine. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. Work the increased stitches in A.1. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 16-19-21-21-23-26 times in total (= 32-38-42-42-46-52 rows have been worked), after increase there are = 96-108-120-120-132-144 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Insert 1 marker in the side. Now measure piece from here! Now work pattern over all stitches as follows (i.e. work pattern also over the outermost 3 stitches in each side): Work A.1 until piece measures approx. 2-2-2-3-4-4 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1½"-1½" from the outermost marker. Work A.2. Work A.3, at the same time on first row in A.3 increase 2 stitches evenly on row = 98-110-122-122-134-146 stitches (work A.3 until 2 stitches remain on row, then work the first 2 stitches in A.3, so that pattern begins and ends the same in each side). When A.3 has been worked, work A.4 (work A.4 until 2 stitches remain, then work the first 2 stitches in A.4, so that pattern begins and ends the same in each side). NOTE! When 8-8-8-14-14-14 rows in A.4 remain, increase in each side for armholes (see arrow in diagram) and increase as follows: INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and work 1 stitch as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work pattern as before until 1 stitch remains, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work 1 stitch as before. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern - work the new stitches in pattern. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 2-2-2-5-5-5 times in total = 102-114-126-132-144-156 stitches on needle. 4 rows of pattern A.4 remain. Cut the yarn and slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder (piece measures approx. 15-15-15-16-17-17 cm = 6"-6"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-6¾", measured from outermost marker along the armhole). Now work left front piece along left shoulder as explained below. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find left shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, left side of piece = left shoulder. Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 32-38-42-42-46-52 stitches. Insert 1 marker here, now measure piece from this marker. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work next row as follows from right side: Knit 3, work the last 1-3-3-3-3-1 stitch in A.1, work A.1 over the next 28-32-36-36-40-48 stitches. Continue pattern back and forth like this. When piece measures 5-5-6-6-7-7 cm = 2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾" from marker and next row is a row from right side, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and work 3 stitches in stockinette stitch, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work the rest of row as before. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern as before and finish with 3 stitches in stockinette stitch. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 8-8-8-8-8-8 times (= 16-16-16-16-16 rows have been worked) = 40-46-50-50-54-60 stitches (next row is worked from right side). Piece now measures 11-11-12-12-13-13 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5⅛" from marker. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work right front piece along the shoulder – read explanation below. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the shoulder and pick up stitches out towards the neck as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 32-38-42-42-46-52 stitches. Insert 1 marker here, now measure piece from this marker. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work A.1. over the first 28-32-36-36-40-46 stitches, then work the first 1-3-3-3-3-1 stitches in A.1, finish with knit 3. Continue pattern back and forth like this. When piece measures 5-5-6-6-7-7 cm = 2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾" from marker and next row is a row from right side, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work pattern as before until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work 3 stitches in stockinette stitch – remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 3 stitches in stockinette stitch, work pattern as before the rest of row. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 8-8-8-8-8-8 times (= 16-16-16-16-16-16 rows have been worked) = 40-46-50-50-54-60 stitches (next row is worked from right side). Piece now measures 11-11-12-12-13-13 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5⅛" from marker. Then place the front pieces together as explained below. FRONT PIECE (right and left part together): Work first row as follows from right side: Work the 40-46-50-50-54-60 stitches from right front piece in A.1 as before, cast on 16-16-20-20-24-24 stitches for neck at the end of this row, work the 40-46-50-50-54-60 stitches from left front piece in A.1 as before = 96-108-120-120-132-144 stitches on needle. Work A.1 until piece measures approx. 12-14-16-17-18-20 cm = 4¾"-5½"-6¼"-6¾"-7"-8" from marker. Work A.2. Work A.3, at the same time on first row in A.3 increase 2 stitches evenly on row = 98-110-122-122-134-146 stitches (work A.3 until 2 stitches remain on row, then work the first 2 stitches in A.3, so that pattern begins and ends the same in each side). Work A.4 until 2 stitches remain, then work the first 2 stitches in A.4, so that pattern begins and ends the same in each side. Piece now measures 25-27-29-30-31-33 cm = 9¾"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-13" measured from marker. Now put front piece and back piece together for body as explained below. Now measure the piece from here. BODY: Work the 102-114-126-132-144-156 stitches from front piece in A.4, cast on 6-6-6-12-12-12 new stitches at the end of this row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work the 102-114-126-132-144-156 stitches from back piece in A.4 and cast on 6-6-6-12-12-12 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) = 216-240-264-288-312-336 stitches on needle. Finish pattern A.4. Cut the yarn and begin next round in the middle of the 6-6-6-12-12-12 stitches cast on in the side under sleeve, begin pattern in the 6th stitch in diagram. Now work in the round on needle according to pattern as follows: Work A.5. Work A.6. Work A.3. Work A.7. Work 1 round in stockinette stitch. Work A.1 until piece measures approx. 37-38-39-39-40-41 cm = 14½"-15"-15¼"-15¼"-15¾"-16⅛" from armhole. Switch to circular needles size 3 MM = US 2.5, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 22-24-26-28-32-34 stitches evenly on 1st round = 238-264-290-316-344-370 stitches. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" bind off all stitches with Italian bind off or bind off somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sweater measures approx. 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm = 24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜", measured furthest in towards neck. SLEEVES: Sleeve is worked from the armhole and down. Place piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of armhole = mid on top shoulder (NOTE! Mid on top shoulder is not same place as stitches were picked up for front piece but approx. 5 cm = 2" down on front piece). Pick up stitches around armhole, use circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5, begin in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve - pick up 88-92-96-104-108-112 stitches - adjust to pick up same number of stitches on each side of marker along armhole. Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Now work in pattern back and forth with short rows over sleeve cap to get a better shape on sleeve, begin round mid under sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit from mid under sleeve until 7 stitches remain before marker on top of shoulder, work A.8, turn piece – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 18-18-18-18-18-18 stitches, work stitches in double moss stitch as shown in A.1, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work 4-4-4-4-4-4 stitches past where the previous turn was, work stitches in double moss stitch as shown in A.1, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work 4-4-4-4-4-4 stitches past where the previous turn was, work stitches in double moss stitch as shown in A.1, turn piece. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4. Work until 12-12-12-16-16-16 turns have been done in total (= 6-6-6-8-8-8 times in each side and last row is worked from wrong side). AFTER LAST TURN: The last time 4th row is worked finish row by turning piece, then work from right side until beginning of round (mid under sleeve), work stitches in double moss stitch as shown in A.1. Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve, this is used when decreasing stitches under sleeve. Move marker thread upwards when working. Now work in the round in pattern as before over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing under sleeve, read the next 2 sections before continuing! DECREASE SLEEVE: Read DECREASE TIP in explanation above. When sleeve measures 1-1-1-1-1-1 cm = ⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜" measured mid under sleeve decrease 2 stitches 3-3-3-3-3-3 times every other round, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-2½-2-2-1½ cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1"-¾"-¾"-½" 11-12-13-16-17-17 times in total =60-62-64-66-68-72 stitches on needle. PATTERN SLEEVE: When 10 rows in A.1 have been worked on the under side of sleeve, work pattern as follows: Work A.2. Work A.3 - in this pattern count so that the pattern is centerd in the middle of sleeve - use marker inserted on top of shoulder and place the pattern in the middle of sleeve. Work A.4. Work A.5 - place the pattern approx. in the middle of sleeve. Work A.6. Work A.3. Work A.7. Then work A.8. Work until sleeve measures 52-51-49-49-47-45 cm = 20½"-20"-19¼"-19¼"-18½"-17¾" from mid on top shoulder. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 6-6-6-6-6-8 stitches evenly on 1st round = 66-68-70-72-74-80 stitches. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" bind off all stitches with Italian bind off or bind off somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 57-56-54-55-53-51 cm = 22½"-22"-21¼"-21⅝"-21"-20" from mid on top of shoulder. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5, begin from right side at one shoulder line and pick up approx. 90 to 112 stitches inside 1 stitch, number of stitches must be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for 9-9-9-11-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-3½"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4⅜". Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and loosely bind off. Fold the rib down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
