I have a question about stitch marker placement at the yoke as # of stitches doesn't add up. I'm doing size #2 which has 135 stitches casted on. At yoke it says to place markers at 23, 27, 31, 27 and there should be 23 stitches left on row but I have 27 instead. I did the total for other sizes and they are all off by 4 stiches as well. Am I reading the pattern incorrectly or is the stitch counter is incorrect in the pattern? I need help please. Thank you.

Dear Qanitah, For teh markers, you count the number of stitches given then put the marker into the NEXT stitch, then count the next amount from the following stitch. I think you might have counted the marker-stitches in the sleeve/body stitches, but the marker stitches are plus (there are 4 marker stitches. If you add up the stitches 23 +1+27+1+31+1+27+1+23 = 135, you get the number you have on the needle (for size M). I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Choose diagram for your chosen size (applies to A.3 and A.4). The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side. ROW 1: Work until there are 4 stitches left on the row, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, finish the band as before. ROW 2: Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row after the neck/when the bands measure 3 cm = 1⅛". Then work the other buttonholes when the bands measure: S: 11-19-27-35 cm = 4⅜"-7½"-10⅝"-13¾" M: 11-19-27-35 cm = 4⅜"-7½"-10⅝"-13¾" L: 12-21-30-39 cm = 4¾"-8¼"-11¾"-15¼" XL: 11-19-27-35-43 cm = 4⅜"-7½"-10⅝"-13¾"-17" XXL: 11-19-27-35-43 cm = 4⅜"-7½"-10⅝"-13¾"-17" XXXL: 12-21-30-39-48 cm = 4¾"-8¼"-11¾"-15¼"-19" INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked twisted on the next row to avoid a hole. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 2 stitches on the round by decreasing on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, top down. When the yoke is finished it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth with circular needle, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round. NECK: Cast on 129-135-137-141-147-155 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Muskat. Work the first row from the right side: 7 band stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and 7 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 3 cm = 1⅛". Insert 1 marker after one band; the yoke is measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 markers in knitted stitches in the rib, without working the stitches: Count 21-23-23-23-25-27 stitches, insert marker-1 in the next stitch (= left front piece), count 27-27-27-29-29-29 stitches (sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 29-31-33-33-35-39 stitches (back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 27-27-27-29-29-29 stitches (sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 21-23-23-23-25-27 stitches left on the row (= right front piece). Now increase for raglan in PATTERN – read description above. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work the first row from the right side as follows: 7 band stitches in garter stitch, 14-16-16-16-18-20 stockinette stitches, work A.1 over the first marker-stitch, 27-27-27-29-29-29 stockinette stitches (= sleeve), work A.2 over the second marker-stitch, 29-31-33-33-35-39 stockinette stitches (= back piece), work A.1 over the third marker-stitch, 27-27-27-29-29-29 stockinette stitches (= sleeve), work A.2 over the fourth marker-stitch, 14-16-16-16-18-20 stockinette stitches and 7 band stitches in garter stitch – working the first BUTTONHOLE – read description above. When A.1 and A.2 are finished in height, repeat the diagrams over the marker-stitches in the same way; note that increases are different on each side of the diagram so it is important the marker is in the same stitch all the time. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Work until the diagrams have been completed 5-5-6-7-7-8 times = 269-275-305-337-343-379 stitches. Now work diagram A.3 over A.1 and A.4 over A.2. When the diagrams are finished there are 293-311-333-357-383-419 stitches and the yoke measures approx. 17-18-20-22-24-27 cm = 6¾"-7"-8"-8¾"-9½"-10⅝" from the marker on the neck. There are 44-48-51-54-59-65 stitches to the first marker-stitch, 63-65-69-75-79-85 stitches between marker-stitches 1 and 2, 75-81-89-95-103-115 stitches between marker-stitches 2 and 3, 63-65-69-75-79-85 stitches between marker-stitches 3 and 4 and 44-48-51-54-59-65 stitches after marker-stitch 4. Continue with stockinette stitch and the bands as before until the yoke measures 17-19-21-22-24-27 cm = 6¾"-7½"-8¼"-8¾"-9½"-10⅝" from the marker. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 48-52-54-58-65-70 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 57-59-65-69-69-77 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 14-16-18-20-22-24 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work 83-89-95-103-115-125 stitches (= back piece), place the next 57-59-65-69-69-77 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 14-16-18-20-22-24 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work 48-52-54-58-65-70 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 207-225-239-259-289-313 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and bands as before until the body measures 22-22-22-22-22-21 cm = 8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-8¼" from the division. On the next row from the right side start the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 28-32-34-36-40-44 stitches evenly on this row – read INCREASE TIP = 235-255-273-295-327-355 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5, work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember the increases) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and band as before. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛" bind off a little loosely with rib. The jacket measures approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 57-59-65-69-69-77 sleeve-stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 14-16-18-20-22-24 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 71-75-83-89-91-101 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 14-16-18-20-22-24 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3-3-3-4-4-3 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1⅛", decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2-1½-1-1-2-1 cm = ¾"-½"-⅜"-⅜"-¾"-⅜" a total of 6-7-8-7-4-5 times = 59-61-67-75-83-91 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 17-15-14-14-12-9 cm = 6¾"-6"-5½"-5½"-4¾"-3½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 9-9-9-11-13-15 stitches evenly on the first round = 68-70-76-86-96-106 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off a little loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 20-18-17-17-16-13 cm = 8"-7"-6¾"-6¾"-6¼"-5⅛". ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
