How am I supposed to close 11 stitches equally while knitting the back? Do I close them on each side in every row? Do I just reduce one stitch every other row? I do not understand this part of the pattern and it is only the beginning :)

Hi Alex, you have to decrease 11 stitches in one row. How to increase/decrease evenly you will find HERE. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. BUTTONHOLES (bottom up): Work buttonholes on the right band. 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit together the 2nd and 3rd stitch from the edge and make 1 yarn over. On the next row, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. Work buttonholes when the piece measures: XS: 4, 11, 19 and 27 cm = 1½", 4⅜", 7½" and 10⅝". S: 4, 11, 19 and 27 cm = 1½", 4⅜", 7½" and 10⅝". M: 4, 11, 19 and 27 cm = 1½", 4⅜", 7½" and 10⅝". L: 4, 12, 20 and 28 cm = 1½", 4¾", 8" and 11". XL: 4, 12, 20 and 29 cm = 1½", 4¾", 8" and 11⅜". XXL: 4, 12, 21 and 30 cm = 1½", 4¾", 8¼" and 11¾". INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Increase by making 1 yarn over inside 1 edge stitch on each side, which are worked twisted on the next row to avoid holes. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in sections back and forth, bottom up, then sewn together. BACK PIECE: Cast on 69-77-83-89-97-105 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, * purl 1, knit 1 * work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, purl 1 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib for 3 cm = 1⅛", with the next row from the right side. Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 9-11-11-11-13-13 stitches evenly spaced = 60-66-72-78-84-92 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 1 garter stitch on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝", bind off with knit from the right side. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 40-44-46-50-54-58 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: 1 garter stitch, * knit 1, purl 1 * work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, knit 1 and 4 garter stitches. Continue this rib for 3 cm = 1⅛", with the next row from the right side. Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Work as follows from the right side: 1 garter stitch, knit 35-39-41-45-49-53 and decrease AT THE SAME TIME 5-6-5-6-7-7 stitches evenly over these stitches, 4 garter stitches = 35-38-41-44-47-51 stitches. Continue with 4 garter stitches over the band, stockinette stitch and 1 garter stitch at the side until the piece measures 28-28-28-29-30-31 cm = 11"-11"-11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼". Now decrease for the V-neck on the next row from the right side: Work 1 garter stitch, stockinette stitch until there are 6 stitches left, knit 2 together (1 stitch decreased) and 4 garter stitches. Decrease like this every 4th row a total of 6-7-8-8-8-8 times, then every 2nd row 3-2-1-2-2-2 times = 26-29-32-34-37-41 stitches. When the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾", decrease 3 stitches evenly on the row (do not decrease over the band) = 23-26-29-31-34-38 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Bind off with knit from the right side. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 40-44-46-50-54-58 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: 4 garter stitches, * knit 1, purl 1 * work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib for 3 cm = 1⅛", with the next row from the right side. Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Work as follows from the right side: 4 garter stitches, knit 35-39-41-45-49-53 and decrease AT THE SAME TIME 5-6-5-6-7-7 stitches evenly over these stitches, 1 garter stitch = 35-38-41-44-47-51 stitches. Continue with 4 garter stitches over the band, stockinette stitch and 1 garter stitch at the side. When the piece measures 4 cm = 1½", start working the BUTTONHOLES – read description above. Work until the piece measures 28-28-28-29-30-31 cm = 11"-11"-11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼". Now decrease for the V-neck on the next row from the right side: 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, work stockinette stitch until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. SLEEVES: Cast on 58-60-64-68-72-76 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: 1 garter stitch, * knit 1, purl 1 * work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib for 10 cm = 4", with the next row from the right side. Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and knit 1 row where you decrease 16-16-16-18-20-20 stitches evenly spaced = 42-44-48-50-52-56 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 1 garter stitch on each side. When the sleeve measures 14-14-15-13-12-12 cm = 5½"-5½"-6"-5⅛"-4¾"-4¾", increase 1 stitch inside the garter stitch on each side – read INCREASE TIP. Repeat this increase every 7-7-8½-6½-6½-8 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-3¼"-2½"-2½"-3⅛" a total of 4-4-3-4-4-3 times = 50-52-54-58-60-62 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 47-47-46-44-43-41 cm = 18½"-18½"-18"-17¼"-17"-16⅛". Loosely bind off with knit from the right side. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams from the outside towards the neck (the middle 11-11-11-13-13-13 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-4⅜"-5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛" on the back piece are neck). Insert 1 marker on the front and back pieces, 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm = 7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½" down from the shoulder seams. Sew in the sleeves between the markers – middle of sleeves should meet the shoulder seams. Sew the sleeve and side seams in one go – sewing in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seams are flat. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
