------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down as far as the armholes, the body is continued in the round with circular needle. Sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 74-78-84-86-88-92 stitches with DROPS Merino Extra Fine, using short circular needles sizes 4 and 3 MM = US 2.5 held together. Remove the needle size 4 MM = US 6 (this gives you an elastic cast-on edge). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 6½ cm = 2½". Fold the neck double to the inside and work 1 more round of rib, working every 4th stitch together with its corresponding stitch on the cast-on edge. You now have a double neck. YOKE: Knit 1 round and increase 14-18-20-18-24-20 stitches evenly spaced - read INCREASE TIP = 88-96-104-104-112-112 stitches. Insert 1 marker here; the yoke is measured from this marker. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Work A.1 for your size - read PATTERN above, and increase as follows on each round marked with an arrow: ARROW 1: Increase 24 stitches evenly spaced = 112-120-128-128-136-136 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! ARROW 2: Increase 24-24-28-28-32-32 stitches evenly spaced = 136-144-156-156-168-168 stitches. ARROW 3: Increase 24-24-28-28-32-32 stitches evenly spaced = 160-168-184-184-200-200 stitches. ARROW 4: Increase 24-24-26-32-28-36 stitches evenly spaced = 184-192-210-216-228-236 stitches. ARROW 5: Increase 26-30-26-32-32-36 stitches evenly spaced = 210-222-236-248-260-272 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch until the yoke measures 13-14-15-16-17-18 cm = 5⅛"-5½"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-7" from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Knit 30-32-35-37-39-41 (half back piece), place the next 44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches on a thread without working them (sleeve), cast on 6 stitches under the sleeve, knit 61-65-70-74-78-82 (front piece), place the next 44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches on a thread without working them (sleeve), cast on 6 stitches under the sleeve, knit the last 31-33-35-37-39-41 stitches (half back piece). The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 134-142-152-160-168-176 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch in the round for a further 13-15-18-21-24-25 cm = 5⅛"-6"-7"-8¼"-9½"-9¾" (approx. 4 cm = 1½" left; try the sweater on and work to desired length). Knit 1 round and increase 28-30-30-32-34-36 stitches evenly spaced = 162-172-182-192-202-212 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm = 1½". Bind off a little loosely in rib. The piece measures approx. 33-36-40-44-48-50 cm = 13"-14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-19¾" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 50-52-54-56-58-60 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches and allow it to follow your work onwards. Continue stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 4 cm = 1½", decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2½-3½-4½-5-6-7 cm = 1"-1¼"-1⅝"-2"-2⅜"-2¾" a total of 5 times = 40-42-44-46-48-50 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 16-20-24-28-31-35 cm = 6¼"-8"-9½"-11"-12¼"-13¾" from the division (or to desired length. There is approx. 4 cm = 1½" left). Knit 1 round and increase 4 stitches evenly spaced = 44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm = 1½". Loosely bind off with rib. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
