------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band. 1 BUTTONHOLE = Knit together the second and the third stitch from the edge and make 1 yarn over. On the next row knit the yarn over = hole. Work the buttonholes when the piece measures: S: 4, 13, 22, 31, 40 and 49 cm = 1½", 5⅛", 8¾", 12¼", 15¾" and 19¼". M: 4, 13, 22, 31, 41 and 51 cm = 1½", 5⅛", 8¾", 12¼", 16⅛" and 20". L: 5, 14, 23, 33, 43 and 53 cm = 2", 5½", 9", 13", 17" and 21". XL: 5, 13, 21, 29, 37, 46 and 55 cm = 2", 5⅛", 8¼", 11⅜", 14½", 18" and 21⅝". XXL: 6, 14, 22, 30, 39, 48 and 57 cm = 2⅜", 5½", 8¾", 11¾", 15¼", 19" and 22½". XXXL: 6, 14, 23, 32, 41, 50 and 59 cm = 2⅜", 5½", 9", 12½", 16⅛", 19¾" and 23¼". PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. Choose diagrams for your size. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 1 stitch before the marker, 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid-front and bottom up to armholes. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, bottom up. The body and sleeves are placed on the same circular needle and the yoke and neck are finished back and forth. BODY: Cast on 192-208-224-244-272-296 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side then work rib as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 7 stitches left, knit 2 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Work this rib for 8 cm = 3⅛". Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 34-34-38-42-46-50 stitches evenly spaced = 158-174-186-202-226-246 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 29-29-30-30-30-30 cm = 11⅜"-11⅜"-11¾"-11¾"-11¾"-11¾", work as follows from the wrong side: Work the first 39-43-45-49-54-58 stitches (left front piece), bind off 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches for the armhole, work the next 68-76-80-88-98-106 stitches (back piece), bind off 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches for the armhole and work the last 39-43-45-49-54-58 stitches (right front piece). Lay the piece to one side and work the sleeves. SLEEVES: Cast on 56-56-60-60-64-64 stitches with double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Knit 1 round and decrease 10-8-10-8-10-8 stitches evenly spaced = 46-48-50-52-54-56 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8 and continue with stockinette stitch. When the sleeve measures 10 cm = 4", insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (mid-under sleeve). On the next round increase 2 stitches under the sleeve - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 8-5-3½-2-2-1½ cm = 3⅛"-2"-1¼"-¾"-¾"-½", a total of 4-5-7-10-10-11 times = 54-58-64-72-74-78 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 42-40-39-38-36-34 cm = 16½"-15¾"-15¼"-15"-14¼"-13⅜". Work the last round as follows: Bind off 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches, work until there are 3-3-4-4-5-6 stitches left and bind off these stitches = 48-52-56-64-64-66 stitches. Lay the piece to one side and work the other sleeve in the same way. YOKE: Place the sleeves on the same circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 as the body, where armholes were bind off (without working the stitches) = 242-266-282-314-334-354 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth with 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side for 2-3-4-4-6-6 cm = ¾"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2⅜"-2⅜". Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 11-13-7-17-15-13 stitches evenly spaced (do not decrease the bands) = 231-253-275-297-319-341 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side (bands knitted), then work as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.1, then A.2 until there are 17 stitches left, work A.3 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. When A.1, A.2 and A.3 have been completed there are 111-121-131-141-151-161 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side until the yoke measures 21-23-24-26-28-30 cm = 8¼"-9"-9½"-10¼"-11"-11¾". (4-5-5-4-4-6 cm = 1½"-2"-2"-1½"-1½"-2⅜" stockinette stitch after A.1). Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 15-21-27-31-37-43 stitches evenly spaced = 96-100-104-110-114-118 stitches. NECK: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work the next row as follows from the wrong side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 7 stitches left, purl 2 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 4 cm = 1½". Bind off. The jacket measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder down. ASSEMBLY: Sew the openings under the sleeve. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
