Hi. Can you clarify the following instructions for me? I feel that the math doesn't work out for me. I get 85 stitches after casting off. Thank you At THE SAME TIME cast off for armholes at beginning of every row in each side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-2-3-5-5 times and 1 stitch 4-4-5-4-3-3 times = 69-77-81-87-89-97 stitches.

Hi Wendy, You don't say which size you are working, but if we take size M as an example, the back piece has 93 stitches before working the armholes. Then you cast off equally on both sides, 2 stitches 2 times = 8 cast-off stitches stitches (2 stitches at the beginning of 4 rows). Then you cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 8 rows (4 cast-off stitches on both sides). A total of 16 cast-off stitches and you are left with 77 stitches (in size M). Hope this helps and happy knitting!

Knitted sweater in DROPS Air. Piece is knitted bottom up with relief pattern and double neck edge. Size: S - XXXL
DROPS 235-7 |
|||||||||||||||||||
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): Work until 2 stitches remain before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread is between these 4 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarns over twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Body is worked on circular needle in the round from the bottom and up to armholes, then work front and back piece back and forth separately on circular needle until finished measurements. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle from the bottom and up to sleeve cap begins, then work sleeve cap back and forth on circular needle until finished measurements. Sew the piece together as explained in pattern. Finish with a double neck edge. BODY: Cast on somewhat loosely 204-220-236-256-280-302 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 with DROPS Air. Knit 1 round. Then work A.1 in the round over all stitches. When piece measures 4 cm = 1½", knit 1 round while at the same time decreasing 22-22-26-26-30-32 stitches evenly = 182-198-210-230-250-270 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round and 1 marker thread after 91-99-105-115-125-135 stitches (in the sides on body). Move marker threads upwards when working. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 5-6-5-6-6-5 cm = 2"-2⅜"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2" from cast-on edge. Work next round as follows: * 15-14-17-17-22-22 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.2A, work A.2B over the next 50-60-60-70-70-80 stitches, A.2C, 15-14-17-17-22-22 stitches in stockinette stitch *, work from *-* one more time. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When piece measures 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm = 13"-13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15" (adjust so that next round is an uneven round in diagrams), bind off for armholes as follows: Begin 3-3-3-4-5-6 stitches before first marker thread, bind off 6-6-6-8-10-12 stitches, work until 3-3-3-4-5-6 stitches remain before next marker thread, bind off 6-6-6-8-10-12 stitches, work as before the rest of row. Finish back piece and front piece separately. BACK PIECE: = 85-93-99-107-115-123 stitches. Begin from wrong side and work pattern as before (cable on every row from right side). AT THE SAME TIME bind off for armholes at beginning of every row in each side as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 2-2-2-3-5-5 times and 1 stitch 4-4-5-4-3-3 times = 69-77-81-87-89-97 stitches. Continue A.2 as before with 4-3-5-3-4-3 stitches in stockinette stitch in each side until piece measures approx. 42-43-46-47-47-50 cm = 16½"-17"-18"-18½"-18½"-19¾", finish after 2nd or 10th row in A.2. Then work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches. When piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝", bind off the middle 27-27-27-29-29-29 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue to work and bind off 2 stitches on next row from the neck = 19-23-25-27-28-32 stitches remain on shoulder. Work until piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜". Bind off. Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 85-93-99-107-115-123 stitches. Begin from wrong side and work as back piece until piece measures 45-47-48-50-51-53 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19"-19¾"-20"-21". Now slip the middle 17-17-17-19-19-19 stitches on a stitch holder for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue and bind off for neck at the beginning of every row from the neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 19-23-25-27-28-32 stitches remain on shoulder. Work until piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜". Bind off. Work the other shoulder the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 56-58-60-60-62-64 stitches on double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 with DROPS Air. Knit 1 round. Then work A.1 in the round. When piece measures 4 cm = 1½", knit 1 round while at the same time decreasing 10 stitches evenly = 46-48-50-50-52-54 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of round (mid under sleeve). Move marker thread upwards when working. Switch to double pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8. Work in stockinette stitch in the round. When piece measures 30-29-27-28-25-27 cm = 11¾"-11⅜"-10⅝"-11"-9¾"-10⅝" from cast-on edge, increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 3-2½-2½-1½-1½-1 cm = 1⅛"-1"-1"-½"-½"-⅜" 5-6-7-10-11-13 times in total = 56-60-64-70-74-80 stitches. Continue to work until sleeve measures 45-45-44-44-42-41 cm = 17¾"-17¾"-17¼"-17¼"-16½"-16⅛". Begin 3 stitches before marker thread, bind off 6 stitches and work stockinette stitch the entire round. Then work sleeve cap back and forth on a circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 as follows: Work in stockinette stitch and bind off at the beginning of every row in each side as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 3-3-3-3-3-3 times and 1 stitch 2-2-2-2-3-3 times. Then bind off 2 stitches at beginning of every row in each side until piece measures 53-53-52-52-52-51 cm = 21"-21"-20½"-20½"-20½"-20½"-20". Bind off 3 stitches 1 time in each side. Bind off the remaining stitches. Sleeve measures approx. 54-54-53-53-53-52 cm = 21¼"-21¼"-21"-21"-21"-20½". Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. DOUBLE NECK EDGE: Begin from right side at one shoulder, and pick up approx. 78-78-80-82-84-84 stitches around the neck (including stitches on thread front) on a short circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Knit 1 round while increasing evenly to 98-98-100-102-106-106 stitches. Work A.1 in the round until neck edge measures 10-10-11-11-12-12 cm = 4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾". Switch to a short circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and loosely bind off. Fold the neck edge down on the inside of garment. Fasten edge to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
