How to knit A.1 - beginning to a sweater

In this DROPS video we show how to knit after chart A.1 / beginning of DROPS 179-1, but also used in other patterns.
We have already knitted the first 10 rounds. See the chart text for explanations of the different techniques.

This sweater is knitted in DROPS Puna, but in video we use a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow.
You must read the pattern and the chart text to be able to follow this video properly. You’ll find the pattern by clicking on the picture below.

DROPS Design :

Dear IvyLeaguer, on time code 1:14 the next stitch after the yarn over has to be purled in diagram - but then the yarn over has to be worked twisted. Working a yarn over twisted gives a smaller hole than working it in the front loop of stitch. Happy knitting!

The directions in the orignal pattern explains that mark as "purl the new stitch from previous row and next stitch (= 2 stitches) together (= 1 stitch decreased)" -- BUT the knitter on the video KNITS the two stitches (instead of purling). Which is correct? Is the pattern wrong?

Dear Ivyleaguer, the video shows how to work the pattern in the round (= always from RS), if you are knitting the Namdalen jacket, follow the diagram, this means you have to purl the new stitch and next stitch together on next row which is for you worked from WS. Happy knitting!

Bonjour Nathalie, quand vous faites la nouvelle maille, elle ne doit être ni trop serrée, ni trop lâche, vous aurez les 2 brins de cette nouvelle maille devant l'ouvrage (cf 1er motif début du tour time code 4:28), au tour suivant, tricotez cette maille ensemble à l'endroit avec la m suivante (début du tour suivant, time code 6:46), les 2 brins de cette nouvelle maille sont toujours devant l'ouvrage (= sur l'endroit). Bonjour Mme Spitz, cette vidéo est réalisée par une droitière mais avec la technique dite continentale (= avec le fil dans la main gauche) méthode très répandue dans le monde, si vous tricotez avec le fil de la main droite, tricotez vos mailles comme d'habitude, ainsi que les jetés, regardez le mouvement du fil pour le motif des tours 13 et 14 tout en suivant bien la légende du diagramme. Vous trouverez le montage des mailles ainsi que d'autres vidéos sous l'onglet "vidéos" de ce modèle. Nos vidéos sont muettes car elles sont regardées par des internautes du monde entier dont beaucoup ne comprennent pas le français. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video we show you how to create a smock pattern by winding the yarn 2 times around 4 stitches (1 knit, 2 purls, 1 knit). We work 2 edge stitches in each side and we have already knitted a few cm of pattern (1 knit, 2 purls, 1 knit). We start the video on the row where we are going to wind the yarn around the 4 stitches to create a smock pattern. Put the 4 stitches (1 knit, 2 purls, 1 knit) on a cable needle back of the work, wind the working yarn twice around this 4 stitches, then knit this stitches (1 knit, 2 purls, 1 knit). Choose by yourself how many rows there should be between each winding, and to create a texture; wind the yarn around the 4 next stitches before and 4 stitches after the last winding. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to knit A.1 in DROPS 182-8

In this DROPS video we show how to knit after chart A.1 for the Raspberry Truffle hat in DROPS 182-8. We have a smaller number of stitches what it says in the pattern and we have already knit the beginning of the hat. We start the video with chart A.1 and show 2 reports of round 1st – 3rd. Then we show the two first and the last report of the 7th round, then 2 reports of the 8th round, 1 report of 9th -10th and at the end how the hat will look after 1 report of A.1 in height. This hat is knitted in DROPS Puna, but in video we use a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern and look at the chart to be able to follow this video properly. Here is a technique where we wind the working yarn around 6 stitches to create a nice texture while just working in rib (K2, P2). We cast on 22 sts, wind 6 sts tog on every 6th row. To create the texture we alternate the 6 sts wound tog for each repeat. The video starts on row 16 from WS before the first wind (P2, K2 across ending with P2). Row 17 (RS): * place 6 sts on a cable needle, wind the yarn twice around these 6 sts - tighten, work the 6 sts from cable needle as before (rib), P2 *. Repeat *-* 2 more times, but end last repeat with last K2 from cable needle. Continue in rib. Row 23 (´RS): K2, P2, * place 6 sts on a cable needle, wind the yarn twice around these 6 sts - tighten, work the 6 sts from cable needle as before (rib), P2*. Repeat *-* and end with K2. Repeat the rows with winding on every 6th row until desired measure.

This Honey comb pattern is worked with the help of a a cable needle following a chart (1 edge st each side K on every row): We already have worked 1 repetition of the chart plus the first 2 rows of next repetition. Now we are starting from 3rd row down in right corner on the chart like this: 3rd row (RS): K1 edge st, slip 2 sts on cable needle behind piece, K2, K2 from cable needle. Then slip 2 sts on cable needle in front of piece, K2, K2 from cable needle, K1 edge st. 4th row (WS): K1 edge st, P across, K1 edge st 5th row (RS): K1 edge st, K across, K1 edge st 6th row (WS): as 4th row. 7th row (RS): K1 edge st, slip 2 sts on cable needle in front of piece, K2, K2 from cable needle. Then slip 2 sts on cable needle behind piece, K2, K2 from cable needle, K1 edge st 8th row (WS): as 4th row. Now 2 full vertical repeats are worked of this pretty honey comb pattern. By smocking you create a raised diamond pattern. On our sample we cast on 22 sts. We work with multiples of 3 + 1. row 1 RS: K1, *P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. row 2 WS: K1, *K2, P1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain K2, K1. Repeat row 1-2 for rib pattern. 1st smock row, work next row from RS: K1, *P2, stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. 2nd smock row, work next row from RS: * stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1, P2*, repeat *-* when 4 sts remain: pick up the yarn after the last 4 sts, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. Repeat smocking rows alternately on every 6th row.
