Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows on larger needle in pattern = 10 x 10 cm [4» x 4»}

Pattern: See chart (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is shown from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette stitch. Arrows indicate the starting points for different sizes.

Body: Knit the sweater in the round on circular needles and cut steeks for armholes.
Cast on 228 (240-252) sts with Muskat on smaller circular needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 3 cm [1.25»] stockinette stitch, purl 1 round (= folding edge - measure the work from here). Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 until the work measures approximately 22 (26-29) cm [8-5/8» (10.25" - 11-3/8»)], beginning at the appropriate arrow on the chart and work in pattern for the front over 114 (120-126) sts, place a marker, start at the arrow again and work in pattern for the back over 114 (120-126) sts.
After Pattern 1 is complete, knit Pattern 2 once, then repeat Pattern 3 to finished dimensions, beginning each pattern at the appropriate size arrow for both front and back.
When the work measures 45 (49-51) cm [17.75» (19.25" - 20»)], inc 5 sts at each side marker (these sts are for the armhole steeks and are not knit into the pattern). When the work measures 60 (64-67) cm [23-5/8» (25.25" - 26-3/8»)] bind off the center 10 (12-12) sts in the front for the neck. Knit the rest back and forth on the needle. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, dec 1 st 2 times, then dec 1 st every 4th row 1 time.
At the same time, when the work measures 68 (72-75) cm [26.75» (28.25" - 29.5»)], bind off the center 26 (28-28) sts in the back for the neck. Bind off all sts when the work measures approximately 70 (74-77) cm [27-5/8» (29-1/8" - 20-3/8»)].

Sleeves: Cast on 44 (44-46) sts with Muskat on smaller needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 3 cm [1.25»] stockinette stitch, purl 1 row (= folding edge - measure the work from here). Change to larger needles and knit Pattern 1 to finished dimensions. At the same time, when the work measures 5 cm [2»], inc 1 st at each side of marker every 3rd row 28 (28-29) times = 100 (100-104) sts. When the work measures 43 (43-42) cm [16-7/8» (16-7/8" - 16.5»)], put 3 sts from each side of marker on a stitch holder. Then put 10 sts on a stitch holder for sleeve caps each side every other row 3 times. The work measures approximately 46 (46-45) cm [18-1/8» (18-1/8" - 17.75»)]. Put all the sts on the sleeve cap back on the needle and knit 2 cm [0.75»] reverse stockinette stitch with Muskat for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body. Bind off all sts.

Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the increased sts on either side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, 1st seam = 1/2 stitch from the marker, 2nd seam = 1/2 stitch from the first seam. Cut steeks for armholes. Sew shoulder seams.

Pick up approximately 86-96 sts (divisible by 2) around the neck on smaller needles with both yarn types as follows: *1 st Muskat, 1 st Chenille*, repeat from * - * (stripe pattern). Join and place a marker at the join. Continue working in stripe pattern until the neck measures 3 cm [1.25»]. With right side facing, change to Muskat and work as follows: knit 1 row, purl 1 row (= folding edge), 3 cm [1.25»] stockinette stitch, bind off all sts. Fold all edges over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of plain knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine stitch. Turn the cardigan inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand.
