Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. Gauge: 14 sts and 26 rows on larger needle in stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"](20 sts and 32 rows on larger needle in stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm. [4" x 4"])

Rib: *knit 2, purl 2*. Repeat from * - *.

Pattern: See charts on page 7 of Drops No. 53 (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is shown from the right side and is knit in blocks of stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch.


Long model: If a long model is desired knit as follows:
Body: Increase measurements at armholes, neck and binding off by 10-12-13 cm [4"-4.75"-5-1/8"]. Finished length = 70-74-77 cm [27.5" - 29-1/8" - 30-3/8"].
Pick up approximately 14-18 (20-26) sts more on the placket and knit 1-2 buttonholes extra.
Increase the yarn amount by 50 (50) g.

Body: (Knit flat.) Cast on 148-156-168 (212-224-240) sts (including 2 edge sts) on smaller circular needles and work rib for 2 cm [0.75"]. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 (Pattern 5) with 1 edge st on either side at the center front kept in garter st and at the same time inc 2-2-2 (0-0-2) sts evenly distributed on the first row = 150-158-170 (212-224-242) sts. Knit Pattern 1 (Pattern 5) until the work measures approx. 34-36-38 cm [13-3/8" - 14-1/8" - 14-7/8"] (adjust for Pattern 1 (Pattern 5) to obtain a whole rectangle). At the same time, when the work measures 33-35-36 cm [13" - 13.75" - 14-1/8"], knit the next row as follows: 36-38-41 (51-54-59) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 70-74-80 (102-108-116) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 36-38-41 (51-54-59) sts for the front. Knit the rest of each part separately.

Front: = 36-38-41 (51-54-59) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row 2 sts 0-0-0 (0-0-1) time, dec 1 st 0-1-2 (1-2-3) times = 36-37-39 (50-52-54) sts. After Pattern 1 (Pattern 5), knit Pattern 2 (Pattern 2) to finished dimensions. When the work measures 52-54-56 cm [20.5" - 21.25" - 22"], bind off for the neck every other row: 5-6-6 (7-8-9) sts 1 time, 2 sts 2-2-2 (3-3-3) times, dec 1 st 3 times and then bind off 2 sts every 4th row 1 time. Bind off all sts when the work measures 60-62-64 cm [23-5/8" - 24-3/8" - 25.25"].

Back: = 70-74-80 (102-108-116) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 70-72-76 (100-104-106) sts. When the work measures 58-60-62 cm [22-7/8" - 23-5/8" - 24-3/8"], bind off the center 20-22-22 (30-32-32) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off all sts when the work measures 60-62-64 cm [23-5/8" - 24-3/8" - 25.25"].

Sleeves: (Knit flat.) Cast on 32-32-34 (46-46-48) sts (including 1 edge st on each side for seam - work all increases inside this stitch) on smaller needles and work in rib for 2 cm [0.75"]. Change to larger needles and knit Pattern 2 (Pattern 2) for 8 cm [3-1/8"] then change to stockinette stitch. At the same time, when the work measures 6 cm [2-3/8"], inc 1 st at each side edge every 4th row (alternately every 3rd and every 4th row) inside the edge sts 23-23-23 (32-32-33) times = 78-78-80 (110-110-114) sts. When the work measures 46.5-46-45 cm [18.25" - 18-1/8" - 17.75"], shape sleeve caps: bind off at each side every other row 3 (4) sts 1 time, 8-6-4 (7-6-5) sts 3-4-6 (5-6-7) times, bind off all sts. The work measures approximately 50 cm [19.75"].

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 74-82 (104-112) sts along the left front on smaller needles and work rib for 3 cm [1.25"], bind off all sts. Repeat along right front, but after 1 cm [3/8"] make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 1 st (2 sts) and cast on 1 st (2 sts) over the bound-off sts on the next row. Pick up approximately 65-70 (90-100) sts around the neck and over the placket on larger needles and knit Pattern 3 (Pattern 3) back and forth on needle, bind off all sts. Sew sleeve seam and sew on sleeves and buttons.
