Hi there. When the pattern says to work 2 stitches in garter stitch towards the mid front where exactly does this mean? I have cast on 106 stitches for the third size and am not sure where the two garter stitches should go. Also, the 2 garter stitches towards the side -does this mean at the side edge? Thanks for your help. Regards, Mary
02.01.2013 - 21:15DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Goggin, with 106 sts for 3rd size, you will work so : 2 sts in garter st, st st over the next 102 sts and finish with 2 sts in garter sts. Happy knitting !

AT THE SAME TIME after last dec (piece measures 20-21-22-23-24-25 cm / 8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½"-9¾"), insert a marker in each side (= for assembly). Continue as before. Continue in stockinette st with 1 st in garter st in each side. When piece measures 51-54-57-60-63-66 cm / 20"-21¼"-22½"-23⅝"-24¾"-26", bind off the middle 22-22-24-24-26-26 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue to bind off 2 sts on next row from neck = 27-31-32-36-40-42 sts remain on the shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 53-56-59-62-65-68 cm / 21"-22"-23¼"-24⅜"-25½"-26¾". When piece measures 20-21-22-23-24-25 cm / 8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½"-9¾", bind off the first 42-44-47-48-50-53 sts at beg of row from RS = 51-55-59-66-70-76 sts. When piece measures 36-38-40-42-44-46 cm / 14¼"-15"-15¾"-16½"-17¼"-18", bind off for armhole in the side as on back piece = 48-52-54-58-63-65 sts. When piece measures 53-56-59-62-65-68 cm / 21"-22"-23¼"-24⅜"-25½"-26¾", bind off the first 27-31-32-36-40-42 sts at beg of row from RS for shoulder = 21-21-22-22-23-23 sts remain on needle for collar. Continue in stockinette st with 1 edge st in garter st towards the shoulder and 2 sts in garter st towards mid front until collar measures 8-8-8½-8½-9-9 cm / 3⅛"-3⅛"-3¼"-3¼"-3½"-3½" measured from the shoulder. Now bind off the first 7 sts at beg of the next 2 rows from RS, then loosely bind off the remaining 7-7-8-8-9-9 sts. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work as left front piece but reversed. Remember to bind off for button holes. SLEEVE: Cast on 44-46-48-50-52-54 sts (incl 1 edge st in each side) on needle size 3 mm / US 2.5. Work 4 rows in garter st. Switch to needle size 4 mm / US 6 and work in stockinette st with 1 edge st in garter st in each side. When piece measures 10-8-10-7-10-8 cm / 4"-3⅛"-4"-2¾"-4"-3⅛", inc 1 st in each side. Repeat inc every 3-3-2½-2½-2-2 cm / 1⅛"-1⅛"-⅞"-⅞"-¾"-¾" a total of 14-15-16-17-18-19 times = 72-76-80-84-88-92 sts. When piece measures 53-52-51-49-48-46 cm / 21"-20½"-20"-19¼"-19"-18" (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulders), insert a marker in each side. Continue to work and bind off when piece measures 54-53-53-52-51-51 cm / 21¼"-21"-21"-20½"-20"-20". Knit another sleeve. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew collar tog mid back bind off edge to bind off edge. Then sew collar to bind off edge on neck, sew inside 1 edge st. Sew in sleeves - marker at the top of sleeve (= D on chart) should fit the side of body - see chart. Sew the side seams inside 1 edge st as follows: Sew A (= bind off edge on front piece) against B (= side of back piece) - see chart. NOTE! Adjust so that bind off edge on each front piece is sewn up to marker on back piece, then continue side seam as before inside 1 edge st and sew sleeve seams in one. Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
