On pattern 47-24 the pattern which is 25 stitches. doesn’t divide into the number given for the body of stitches. 315. I have 13 extra stitches left over for large size. How to I handle these extra stitches.?

Hi Maggie, The pattern consists of 24 stitches, which divides into 315 stitches with 3 left over; these stitches are mid front and are worked in stocking stitch - used when you cut the jacket open at the end. Happy knitting!

DROPS Jacket with pattern in Alpaca
DROPS 47-24 |

Knitting gauge: 24 sts x 32 rows on needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 with Alpaca in pattern = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm). Edge : K 3 cm / 1" in stockinette sts, P1 row (= folding edge), 3 cm / 1" in stockinette sts. Pattern: See diagram M.1 – M.5. 1 diagram = 1 repeat. The diagrams show the pattern from the RS. BODY The jacket is knitted round on circular needle after the Edge and cut for armholes and mid front afterwards. Cast on 267-291-315 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on circular needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with charcoal gray and knit Edge – see above – back and forth on needle with 1 edge st in garter sts each side. Change to circular needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 and work M.1 round on needle, at the same time inc 3 sts mid front – these 3 sts + the 2 edge sts = 5 sts are to be cut afterwards and are not included in pattern. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! After M.1 continue in charcoal gray until piece measures 22-24-26 cm. Now knit M.2 and continue in M.3. When piece measures 39-41-42 cm knit next round as follows from mid front: 5 sts for cutting mid front, 66-72-78 sts on front piece, cast on 4 new sts – to be cut for armhole and not included in pattern-, 133-145-157 sts on back piece, cast on 4 new sts sts – to be cut for armhole and not included in pattern -, 66-72-78 sts on front piece. When piece measures 60-62-64 cm bind off the middle 24-26-26 sts + 5 sts for cutting on front piece and finish the piece back and forth on needle. Bind off to shape the neckline on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 3 times. When piece measures 64-66-68 cm knit M.4 and bind off 41-43-43 sts mid back for neck and dec 2 sts towards neckline on next row. Bind off after M.4, piece measures approx 66-68-70 cm. Sleeve: Cast on 62-62-64 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with charcoal gray and knit Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and knit 1 repeat of M.1 and continue in charcoal gray. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 34-34-35 times: Size S on every 4th round and Size M+L on every 3rd and 4th round alternately = 130-130-134 sts. When piece measures 28-27-26 cm knit M.5 and then M.4. Piece now measures approx 48-47-46 cm. Knit 2 cm / ¾" in reverse stockinette sts (= edge for sewing on sleeves to body piece) and bind off. Assembly: Sew a marking thread in the middle of the inc sts each side of the body piece and mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread 1st seam = ½ st from the marking thread, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut up for armholes and mid front. Sew the shoulder seam. Pick up approx 140-150 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with charcoal gray and knit Edge. Bind off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm / ½" make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts in the same place on the return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stockinette sts to be folded towards WS! Fold the Edge towards WS and attach. Pick up approx 120 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with charcoal gray and knit 2.5 cm / 1" in stockinette sts, change to deep red and work 2 rows in stockinette sts. Work next row as follows: *K2 tog, yo*, repeat from *-* (= folding edge), and knit another 2.5 cm / 1" in stockinette sts. Bind off and fold the edge double towards the WS and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the RS as follows: Alternate between 1 st in the last row on the sleeve before the edge in reverse stockinette sts and then 1 st in the body part after the machine sewn seam. Turn the sweater and sew the purl seam from the sleeves over the cut edges on the body part. Sew on buttons. |
