---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Read the diagram from right to left when working from right side and from left to right when working from wrong side. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, on next row work yarns over as explained below: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCHES (= twist yarn over towards the left): Purl yarn over in stitch loop behind the needle - to avoid holes. AFTER RAGLAN STITCHES (= twist yarn over towards the right): Move yarn over from left needle to right needle purlwise, slip yarn over back on left needle by inserting left needle from behind in yarn over (yarn over is now twisted). Purl yarn over in stitch loop that is in front the needle - to avoid holes. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 buttonholes, approx. 4½-4½-5-5-4½-5-5 cm = 1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2"-1⅝"-2"-2" apart. Place bottom buttonhole approx. in the transition between stockinette stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 107-109-115-117-123-125-131 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 with DROPS Paris. Work as follows: From wrong side: Work 7 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD, purl until 7 stitches remain on row, work 7 stitches band with I-cord. Work 2 more rows in stockinette stitch and band stitches in each side, work next row from right side: Continue as follows: From right side: Work band as before, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1, work band as before. From wrong side: Work band as before, work rib (= purl 1/knit 1) until 8 stitches remain, purl 1, work band as before. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows rib. YOKE: Continue with circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch, these stitches are called raglan stitches and increase is done for raglan on each side of raglan stitches. Count 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches (= left front piece), insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 25-27-29-31-33-35-37 stitches (= back piece), insert 1 marker in next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in next stitch. 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches remain on row after last marker (= right front piece). Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. Work pattern and stockinette stitch back and forth with bands as before and increase for RAGLAN on each side of raglan stitches - read explanation above for increase method. Remember to decrease for BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Pattern and raglan increases begin at the same time, so please read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Left front piece: 7 band stitches as before, A.1, 0-0-2-2-4-4-6 stitches in stockinette stitch, 1 raglan stitch in stockinette stitch. Sleeve: stockinette stitch Back piece: stockinette stitch Sleeve: stockinette stitch Right front piece: 1 raglan stitch in stockinette stitch, 0-0-2-2-4-4-6 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.2, 7 band stitches as before. When A.1 and A.2 have been worked 1 time vertically, continue with A.3 over A.1 and A.4 over A.2. RAGLAN: ROW 1 (= right side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before, and increase for raglan on each side of every raglan stitch (= 8 stitches increased) ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before (remember to work yarn overs as explained in RAGLAN). Work 1st and 2nd ROW 3-1-6-7-6-5-5 times in total (= 6-2-12-14-12-10-10 rows have been worked) = 135-121-167-177-175-169-175 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Then work and increase for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before, and increase for raglan on each side of every raglan stitch (= 8 stitches increased) ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before (remember to work yarn overs as explained in RAGLAN). ROW 3 (= right side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before and increase for raglan on front pieces and back piece, i.e. increase before 1st and 3rd marker and after 2nd and 4th marker - do not increase stitches on sleeves (= 4 stitches increased). ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work pattern, stockinette stitch and bands as before (remember to work yarn overs as explained in RAGLAN). Work 1st to 4th ROW total 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 times (= 40-48-40-44-52-60-64 rows worked = 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 increases done on sleeves and 20-24-20-22-26-30-32 increases done on front pieces/back piece) = 255-265-287-309-331-349-367 stitches on needle. All increases for raglan are done, 23-25-26-29-32-35-37 increases have been done in total on front pieces/back piece and 13-13-16-18-19-20-21 increases on sleeves. Work pattern, stockinette stitch and band as before, without increasing, until piece measures approx. 21-23-24-27-29-32-34 cm = 8¼"-9"-9½"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12½"-13⅜" from marker mid front. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 46-48-51-54-59-62-66 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 45-45-51-55-57-59-61 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 73-79-83-91-99-107-113 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 45-45-51-55-57-59-61 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 46-48-51-54-59-62-66 stitches as before (= front piece). Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches 2-2-5-7-8-9-9 times every 4-4-4-3½-3-2½-2½ cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1¼"-1⅛"-1"-1" = 47-49-51-53-55-57-59 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 39-37-37-34-32-29-27 cm = 15¼"-14½"-14½"-13⅜"-12½"-11⅜"-10⅝" from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 9-9-9-11-11-11-11 stitches evenly on 1st round = 56-58-60-64-66-68-70 stitches. When rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl.
