------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE MARKER: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER MARKER: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread. Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 8 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 8 stitches), make 1 yarn over (2 increased stitches). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 96-100-104-108-108-112-120 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Knit 3 rounds (= rolled edge), then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2"-2". The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 35-36-37-39-39-41-43 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches, inserting the markers into a stitch (raglan-stitch). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 25-27-29-29-29-29-33 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 25-27-29-29-29-29-33 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Work stockinette stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above, as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round, increase after the stitch with the first marker, at the end of the round increase before the stitch with the first marker. ROUND 2: Knit (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 5-8-5-15-20-18-13 times (10-16-10-30-40-36-26 rounds worked) = 136-164-144-228-268-256-224 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase for raglan as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROUND 3: Knit and increase for raglan on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase after markers 2 and 4 and before markers 3 and 1 – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 11-10-13-8-7-10-14 times (44-40-52-32-28-40-56 rounds worked = 11-10-13-8-7-10-14 increases in height on the sleeves and 22-20-26-16-14-20-28 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 268-284-300-324-352-376-392 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished. A total of 16-18-18-23-27-28-27 increases in height on the sleeves and 27-28-31-31-34-38-41 increases in height on the front and back pieces. Continue with stockinette stitch, without further increases, until the yoke measures 20-21-23-23-25-28-30 cm = 8"-8¼"-9"-9"-9¾"-11"-11¾" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing, the raglan-stitches will be positioned slightly inside the front and back pieces in sizes S, L, XL, XXL and XXXL (in sizes XS and M the yoke is divided at the raglan-stitches). Knit 0-1-0-3-4-5-4 (these stitches belong to the back piece), place the next 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 81-87-93-99-107-117-125 (= front piece), place the next 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 81-86-93-96-103-112-121 stitches (= 81-87-93-99-107-117-125 stitches on the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 182-198-214-230-250-274-298 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches cast on under each sleeve; allow these marker-threads to follow your work onwards, they are used when increasing stitches on each side. Work to the first marker-thread. The round now begins here. Work stockinette stitch in the round for a further 4 cm = 1½". Now increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 increased stitches). Increase like this every 6 cm = 2⅜" a total of 3 times = 194-210-226-242-262-286-310 stitches. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-48-50-51-53 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19"-19¾"-20"-21" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 22-24-24-26-28-30-34 stitches evenly on the first round = 216-234-250-268-290-316-344 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2"-2", bind off with Italian bind off or slightly loosely with rib. The sweater measures approx. 47-49-51-52-54-56-58 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 63-67-71-79-87-91-95 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2-2-2-1-1-1-1 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1-1 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-½"-½"-⅜"-⅜" a total of 5-6-7-10-13-14-15 times = 53-55-57-59-61-63-65 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 45-44-43-43-42-39-37 cm = 17¾"-17¼"-17"-17"-16½"-15¼"-14½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 5-5-5-5-5-5-5 stitches evenly on the first round = 58-60-62-64-66-68-70 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 bind off with Italian bind-off or slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 48-47-46-47-46-44-42 cm = 19"-18½"-18"-18½"-18"-17¼"-16½" from the division. |
