Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular needle. Begin by casting on stitches in the back of neck. Then work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. Work until finished measurements. Now work front piece, work front piece in 2 parts. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from back piece, work in stockinette stitch while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. Put right and left front piece together when increases for neck are done. Then work front piece down until finished measurements. Finish with neck edge in the round. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 14-16-18 stitches on circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 with 2 strands DROPS Melody. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 7-7-7 times in total (= 14-14-14 rows have been worked), after increase there are = 42-44-46 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Continue in stockinette stitch and 3 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD in each side - read explanation above. Work until piece measures 28-30-31 cm = 11"-11¾"-12¼". Switch to circular needle size 6 MM = US 10, work 3 edge stitches as before, work in stockinette stitch while at the same time increasing 6-4-6 stitches evenly over the next 36-38-40 stitches, work 3 edge stitches as before = 48-48-52 stitches. Now work rib (first row is from wrong side). Work 3 edge stitches as before, work rib (= purl 2, knit 2) until 5 stitches remain, purl 2 and 3 edge stitches as before. Continue rib back and forth for 4-4-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-2". Bind off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. Piece measures approx. 32-34-36 from cast-on edge. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find left shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, left side of piece = left shoulder. Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Use circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 14-14-14 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work in stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches I-cord at the edge towards shoulder (work first row from wrong side). When piece measures 5-4-5 cm = 2"-1½"-2", increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work the rest of row as before. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl - work edge stitches as before. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 4-5-5 times in total (= 8-10-10 rows have been worked) = 18-19-19 stitches (work next row from right side). Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work right front piece along the shoulder – read explanation below. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the shoulder and pick up stitches out towards the neck as follows: Use circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 14-14-14 stitches. All length measurements on front piece are done from pick-up edge. Work in stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches I-cord at the edge towards shoulder (work first row from wrong side). When piece measures 5-4-5 cm = 2"-1½"-2", increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl - work edge stitches as before. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 4-5-5 times in total (= 8-10-10 rows have been worked) = 18-19-19 stitches (work next row from right side). Then place the front pieces together as explained below. FRONT PIECE (right and left part together): Work first row as follows from right side: Work the 18-19-19 stitches from right front piece as before, cast on 6-6-8 stitches for neck at the end of this row, work the 18-19-19 stitches from left front piece = 42-44-46 stitches on needle. Work in stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches i-cord in each side until piece measures 28-30-31 cm = 11"-11¾"-12¼". Piece measures 32-34-36 cm = 12½"-13⅜"-14¼" measured on the innermost at the neck and down. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 and 2 strands DROPS Melody. Begin from right side at one shoulder line and pick up approx. 60-64-68 stitches around the neck inside 1 stitch, knit 1 round while adjusting number of stitches - number of stitches must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) for 18-20-22 cm = 7"-8"-8¾". Switch back to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
