------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1 (for neckline and armholes): INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS RIGHT – from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the back and knit through the front loop INCREASE TIP-2 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 212 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 18) = 11.8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 12th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 decreased stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front and back pieces are worked separately, back and forth, top down. The left front shoulder is worked first, increasing stitches for the neckline. Then the right shoulder is worked, the 2 shoulders are joined and the front piece is worked back and forth until the armholes are finished. The back piece is worked in the same way. After the armholes, the front and back pieces are joined and the body is finished in the round. The shoulder seams are sewn together. Stitches are knitted up and edges worked around the neckline and armholes. LEFT FRONT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 15-17-17-20-21-24 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Safran. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2"-2". Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 towards the left, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 6-6-7-7-7-7 times (12-12-14-14-14-14 rows worked) = 21-23-24-27-28-31 stitches (next row is from the right side). Cut the strand. Place the stitches on a stitch-holder and work the right shoulder. RIGHT FRONT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 15-17-17-20-21-24 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Safran. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2"-2". Increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 6-6-7-7-7-7 times (12-12-14-14-14-14 rows worked) = 21-23-24-27-28-31 stitches (next row from right side). The 2 shoulders are now joined for the front piece. FRONT PIECE: Work as follows from the right side: Knit the 21-23-24-27-28-31 stitches from the right shoulder, cast on 30-30-30-30-32-32 stitches for the neckline, knit the 21-23-24-27-28-31 stitches from the left shoulder = 72-76-78-84-88-94 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth until the piece measures 13-13-12-11-10-9 cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-4¾"-4⅜"-4"-3½" (from the cast-on edge on the shoulder) – NOTE: In size XXXL this measurement is taken as soon as the 2 shoulders are joined. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 10-12-15-18-22-25 times (20-24-30-36-44-50 rows worked) = 92-100-108-120-132-144 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm = 7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½" from the cast-on edge on the shoulder, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Place the stitches on a stitch-holder and work the back piece. RIGHT BACK SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 15-17-17-20-21-24 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Safran. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 2 cm = ¾". Increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 3, increase 1 towards the left, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2 times (4 rows worked) = 17-19-19-22-23-26 stitches (next row is from the right side). Cut the strand. Place the stitches on a stitch-holder and work the left shoulder. LEFT BACK SHOULDER (when garment is worn): Cast on 15-17-17-20-21-24 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Safran. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 2 cm = ¾". Increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2 times (4 rows worked) = 17-19-19-22-23-26 stitches (next row is from the right side). The 2 shoulders are now joined for the back piece. BACK PIECE: Work as follows from the right side: Knit the 17-19-19-22-23-26 stitches from the left shoulder, cast on 38-38-40-40-42-42 stitches for the neckline, knit the 17-19-19-22-23-26 stitches from the right shoulder = 72-76-78-84-88-94 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth until the piece measures 13-13-12-11-10-9 cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-4¾"-4⅜"-4"-3½" (from the cast-on edge on the shoulder). INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 3, increase 1 towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. The front and back pieces are now joined for the body. BODY: Knit the 92-100-108-120-132-144 stitches on the back piece, cast on 12-14-16-18-22-26 stitches (under armhole), knit the 92-100-108-120-132-144 stitches from the front piece, cast on 12-14-16-18-22-26 stitches (under armhole) = 208-228-248-276-308-340 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 12-14-16-18-22-26 cast-on stitches under each armhole. Allow the threads to follow your work onwards, they are used when decreasing each side of the body. Work stockinette stitch in the round for 5-5-6-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜". Now decrease 1 stitch each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 5-5-5-5-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜" a total of 4 times = 192-212-232-260-292-324 stitches. Work until the body measures 24-25-26-27-28-29 cm = 9½"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜" from the armhole. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 16-18-20-20-22-24 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 208-230-252-280-314-348 stitches. After 3 rounds of rib, bind off a little loosely. The top measures approx. 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼" from the shoulder. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. NECKLINE: Use circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Start from the right side by one shoulder seam, knit up 114-118-126-128-138-140 stitches inside 1 stitch, around the neckline – the stitch count should be divisible by 2. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) in the round for 3-3-3½-3½-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1¼"-1¼"-1½"-1½". Bind off a little loosely. SLEEVE-EDGES: Use circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Start from the right side at the bottom of the armhole. Knit up 112-120-126-134-140-148 stitches inside 1 stitch, around the armhole – the stitch count should be divisible by 2. Work 3 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1). Bind off a little loosely. |
