Hi, so I’ve cast on 60 stitches and now starting heel and toe. It says knit 2 stocking stitches and then continue with another 30 put these on hold and knit the remaining 30. However, that would make 62 stitches not 60 including the two stocking stitch stitches ?

Hi Gilly, You knit the 2 stitches then place 30 stitches on the stitch holder and knit the remaining 28 stitches. This means you have 30 stitches on the needle for the heel. Regards, Drops Team.

It’s time you started showing us patterns for flat knitting isn’t I?! Not everyone likes circular needles and it’s not enough to just say add a stitch for edges…..Also ,why are there so few patterns for bottom up knitting?

Feil i oppskriften?

Hej, du skal også tælle de 2 masker du sætter mærket i, i hver side :)

Hi, I have a question about joining the heel to the top of the foot. I’m knitting the 41/43 size, and after doing the heel decreases, the pattern says to pick up 14 sts along the side of the heel, but there are actually 17 sts before I get to the top of the foot. How do I avoid a big gap here between the heel and the top of the foot?
27.10.2024 - 16:02DROPS Design answered:
Dear Rachel, you need to spread the 14 sts in the side of the heel- so, don't pick up one stitch in every stitch but rather skip 3 stitches evenly over the 17 stitches. For example, pick up 1 stitch in each of the next 4 stitches, skip 1, pick up 1 stitch in each of the next 4 stitches, skip 1,pick up 1 stitch in each of the next 4 stitches, skip 1, pick up 2 stitches. This way you have picked up 14 stitches over 17 stitches and, since you have skipped 3 stitches evenly, there won't be big gaps anywhere. Happy knitting!

Hei!

Mvh DROPS Design

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-9 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-9 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-5-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-5-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 12-12-14 stitches left. DECREASE TIP: Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. LEG: Cast on 48-52-60 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Fiesta. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 16-17-18 cm = 6¼"-6¾"-7". Now continue as follows with stockinette stitch and rib: Work 2 stockinette stitches (belong to heel), continue the rib starting with purl 2 across the next 26-30-30 stitches (finish with purl 2), then stockinette stitch to end of round. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 17-18-19 cm = 6¾"-7"-7½". Now work heel and foot. HEEL AND FOOT: Work 2 stockinette stitches, continue the rib across the next 26-30-30 stitches then place these stitches on a thread (top of foot), work stockinette stitch to end of round = 22-22-30 heel-stitches. Continue stockinette stitch back and forth across the heel-stitches for 6-6½-7 cm = 2⅜"-2½"-2¾". Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row – the foot is measured from here. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, work as follows: Stockinette stitch across the 12-12-14 heel-stitches, knit up 13-14-15 stitches along one side of the heel, work rib across the 26-30-30 stitches from the thread and knit up 13-14-15 stitches along the other side of the heel = 64-70-74 stitches. Work to mid-under heel. The round now begins here. Insert 1 marker each side of the 26-30-30 stitches on top of foot. Continue with stockinette stitch under the foot and rib on top of the foot, decreasing as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this every round a total of 5-5-5 times, then every 2nd round 6-6-7 times = 42-48-50 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 20-21-23 cm = 8"-8¼"-9" from the heel-marker, measured under the foot. Finish by working stockinette stitch. There is 4-5-5 cm = 1½"-2"-2" left to finished length; try the sock on and work to desired length before decreasing for the toe. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side with 20-24-24 stitches on top of the foot and 22-24-26 stitches under the foot. Work stockinette stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-5-5 times, then every round 4-4-4 times = 10-12-14 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 24-26-28 cm = 9½"-10¼"-11" from the heel-marker measured under the foot. |
