------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 10-10-12 stitches left. DECREASE TIP (for mid-back and toe): Start 3 stitches before the marker-thread/marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread/marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). When decreasing for the toe, repeat at the other marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. LEG: Cast on 63-71-75 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Nepal. Purl 1 round. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-back). Allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Now work rib in the round as follows: SIZES 35/37 – 38/40: Purl 1, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* 6-7 times, A.1, purl 2 * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* 5-6 times, knit 2, purl 1. Continue this rib. SIZE 41/43: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* 7 times, purl 2, A.1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* 7 times, purl 2, knit 1. Continue this rib. When the rib measures 6 cm = 2⅜" (folding edge), strikkes work rib reversed, i.e. knit over purl and purl over knit (work A.2 over A.1). When the rib measures 9 cm = 3½" from the cast-on edge, work next round as follows: Knit 25-29-31 and decrease 7-9-10 stitches evenly over these stitches, work A.3 over A.2, knit 25-29-31 and decrease 7-9-10 stitches evenly over these stitches = 49-53-55 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and work as follows: Knit 18-20-21, work A.3, knit 18-20-21. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the leg measures 16-17-18 cm = 6¼"-6¾"-7", decrease 2 stitches mid-back – read DECREASE TIP. Repeat the decrease when the leg measures 20-21-22 cm = 8"-8¼"-8¾" = 45-49-51 stitches. When the leg measures 24-25-26 cm = 9½"-9¾"-10¼", work the heel and foot. HEEL AND FOOT: Work stockinette stitch over the first 10-11-12 stitches and keep them on the needle, work the next 25-27-27 stitches and place them on a thread (top of foot), keep the last 10-11-12 stitches on the needle = 20-22-24 heel-stitches on the needle. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 6-6-6½ cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2½". Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row. The foot is measured from here. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, work next round as follows: Knit the 10-10-12 heel stitches, knit up 12-12-13 stitches along one side of the heel, work stockinette stitch and pattern as before over the 25-27-27 stitches from the thread, knit up 12-12-13 stitches along the other side of the heel = 59-61-65 stitches. Work to mid-under the heel – the round starts here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 25-27-27 stitches on top of the foot. Work stockinette stitch and pattern as before and decrease by each marker as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this every round 2 more times, then every 2nd round 6 times = 41-43-47 stitches. Work until the foot measures 17-18-20 cm = 6¾"-7"-8" from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot – NOTE: finish 3 rounds after a round of cabling. On the next round decrease in A.3 as follows: Work as before as far as the 4 knitted stitches in the cable, knit 2 twisted together two times (2 decreased stitches), purl 1, knit the 4 knitted stitches in the cable together 2 by 2 (2 decreased stitches), continue the round as before decreasing 1 stitch mid under foot by knitting 2 stitches together = 36-38-42 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch over all stitches until the foot measures 18-19-21 cm = 7"-7½"-8¼" from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. There is 4-5-5 cm = 1½"-2"-2" left; try the sock on and work to desired length. TOE: Insert 1 marker on each side with 18-19-21 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. Continue with stockinette stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decrease). Decrease like this every 2nd round 4-5-5 times in total, then every round 2-2-3 times = 12-10-10 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-5-5 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10¼" from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
