Hi there, I am battling to print the patterns for Easter Dance Socks No. 299/35 and 299/34. I don't seem to be able to adjust the patter to fit an A4 page. Is it at all possible for you to email me the copies of these patterns. They are both beautiful and I would love to knit them. Thank you so much. Regards Maureen Blaikie

Dear Maureen, I'm sorry but we can't send any patterns by mail. The pattern seems to download normally on our end. You should check your printer or computer configuration to see if there is an issue with it. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The patterns are all worked in stockinette stitch. HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 12-14-16 stitches left on the needle. DECREASE TIP (for toe): Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the second marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCK – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. The chicks’ beaks are embroidered to finish. The length of the sock is matching the length of the foot. If you want the sock to be stretched a little when wearing it, the length of the sock can be knitted a little shorter before decreasing for the toe. LEG: Cast on 76-80-84 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 and color rose DROPS Karisma. Knit 1 round, then work 1 round of rib (knit 2, purl 2). Change to color light beige brown and continue with rib until the piece measures 4-4-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-2". Knit 1 round where you decrease 12-8-12 stitches evenly spaced = 64-72-72 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work A.1, 8-9-9 times in width on the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When A.1 is finished in height, work A.2, 8-9-9 times in width on the round, decreasing as follows: On the round with arrow-1 decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 60-68-68 stitches. On the round with arrow-2 decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 56-64-64 stitches. On the round with arrow-3 decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 52-60-60 stitches.. On the round with arrow-4 decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 48-56-56 stitches. On the round with arrow-5 decrease 0-4-0 stitches evenly spaced = 48-52-56 stitches. When A.2 is finished the piece measures approx. 34-34-35 cm = 13⅜"-13⅜"-13¾". If the piece is shorter than this continue with stockinette stitch in color light oak to the correct length. HEEL AND FOOT: Continue with color light oak as follows: Knit the first 12-13-14 stitches and keep them on the needle for the heel, place the next 24-26-28 stitches on a thread (top of foot) and keep the last 12-13-14 stitches on the needle for the heel = 24-26-28 heel-stitches. Work the heel-stitches in stockinette stitch back and forth with color light oak for 6-6-6½ cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2½". Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row – the foot is measured from this marker. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After heel decreases, work in the round as follows: Knit the 12-14-16 heel stitches, knit up 13-13-14 stitches along one side of the heel, knit the 24-26-28 stitches from the thread and knit up 13-13-14 stitches along the other side of the heel = 62-66-72 stitches. Work to the middle of the heel – the round now starts here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 24-26-28 stitches on top of the foot. Work A.3, AT THE SAME TIME decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 7-9-8 times = 48-48-56 stitches. When A.3 is finished, continue with stockinette stitch in color light oak until the foot measures 12-13-15 cm = 4¾"-5⅛"-6" from the marker on the heel and measured under the foot. Work A.4 6-6-7 times in width on the round. On the round with arrow-6 decrease 4-0-4 stitches evenly spaced = 44-48-52 stitches. When A.4 is finished, the foot measures approx. 18-19-21 cm = 7"-7½"-8¼" from the marker on the heel and measured under the foot. If the piece is shorter than this continue with stockinette stitch in color rose to the correct length. There is approx. 4-5-5 cm = 1½"-2"-2" left; try the sock on and work to desired length. TOE: Insert 1 marker on each side, with 22-24-26 stitches on top of and underneath the foot. Work stockinette stitch with color rose. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round decrease on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4-5-5 times, then every round 5-5-6 times = 8-8-8 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10¼" measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. EMBROIDERED BEAKS: Embroider a beak on each chick using flat stitch using color dark mustard – see diagrams A and B. |
