Don't know if I put this question in the right place. I have been trying to replace with worsted wool in this skirt. Any help would be most appreciated. I really want to start this project; please answer asap. Thanks and Happy New Year - God willing.

Hello Maria Saginario! Please knit a swatch to make sure you get the right knitting tension. Also, if using bigger needles, you could try making a smaller size. Measure your hip measurement and calculate how many stitches you need. Happy knitting!

When using needles to work in the round, do I need to use a longer cable size? Also, I am assuming the measurements given are of the front of the piece which would mean I need to double the measurement so the skirt fits around the waist? Is this correct? I am anxious to start and want to be sure I understand. Thanks for your help.
23.12.2021 - 17:46DROPS Design answered:
Hi Maria, We recommend a circular needle length 24 and 32 inches when working the skirt. The measurement chart shows the width of the skirt, so you double the measurement for the waist. Happy knitting!

For increase tip 2 it says that I am to have a knit stitch on each side of the stockinette stitch, but I only have 1 stitch that I worked the first stitch of A1 for. Am I supposed to increase on each side of this A1 stitch or am I supposed to increase on just the first and last stitch of the stockinette sections ?
28.05.2021 - 14:30DROPS Design answered:
Dear Whitepaw, you will increase after A.1 + 1 stitch in stocking stitch at the beg of front/back piece and before 1 stitch + A.1 at the end of front/back piece. Happy knitting!

How do I increase every 3rd round 8 times and every 6th round twice ? Is it not the same as increasing every third round you knit?
09.05.2021 - 15:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Whitepaw, yes, you increase first every 3rd. round you knit 8 times, then every 6th round you knit 2 times. Happy Knitting!

32 + 138 = 170 steken.

When you switch over to the bigger sized needles and have completed the sectioning off and have 176 stitches and you "continue the pattern in the round" does this mean you increase every round ? Example for the first 22 stitches (18+4 for the large size) you add another 4 stitches again or do you only add the stitches every third round ?
02.05.2021 - 15:12DROPS Design answered:
Dear Whitepaw, you d not have to repeat the increases (evenly), only increase what is stated in the text. Happy Knitting!

Mvh DROPS Design

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 12 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 3) = 4. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 4th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2 (for sides): Increase by making 1 yarn-over inside the 1 knitted stitch on either side of the stockinette-stitch sections on the skirt (front and back = 4 stitches increased on the round). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as binding off; the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SKIRT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, top down. SKIRT: Cast on 128-132-148-160-184-196 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and Nepal. Knit 1 round. Insert a marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back). Then work rib (= knit 1, purl 1) in the round for 9 cm = 3½". Change to circular needle size 5 mm = US 8. Work pattern as follows: Knit the first 12-12-14-18-22-24 stitches and increase at the same time, 3-3-3-4-4-5 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-1, work A.1 over the next 40-40-44-44-48-48 stitches (= 10-10-11-11-12-12 repeats), work the first stitch in A.1, knit 23-25-29-35-43-49 stitches and increase at the same time 5-6-7-8-8-10 stitches evenly spaced, work A.1 over the next 40-40-44-44-48-48 stitches (= 10-10-11-11-12-12 repeats), work the first stitch in A.1, knit the last 11-13-15-17-21-25 stitches and increase 2-3-4-4-4-5 stitches evenly spaced = 138-144-162-176-200-216 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue this pattern in the round. When you have worked 3 rounds, begin to increase on each side of the knitted sections on the front and back of the skirt – read INCREASE TIP-2. Increase like this every 3rd round 6-7-8-8-9-10 times and every 6th round 2-2-2-2-2-2 times = 170-180-202-216-244-264 stitches (= 44-49-56-63-73-83 stitches in the 2 knitted sections). Continue with pattern and stockinette stitch until the skirt measures 38-40-42-44-46-48 cm = 15"-15¾"-16½"-17¼"-18"-19" from the cast-on edge down mid-back. The next round is worked as follows: Work pattern as before and increase 7-6-7-8-6-8 stitches evenly spaced over the 44-49-56-63-73-83 stitches in stockinette stitch on the front and back of the skirt (= 51-55-63-71-79-91 stitches) = 184-192-216-232-256-280 stitches. Work as far as the first Fisherman’s rib stitch on the one side; this is now the beginning of the round. Work an edge as follows: Work A.1 to end of round (= 46-48-54-58-64-70 repeats). Continue this pattern for 5 cm = 2" – adjust so you finish after the next-to-last round in the diagram (so you bind off on a round with Fisherman’s rib stitches). Bind off as follows – read BINDING-OFF TIP: * Insert the right needle through the stitch under the next stitch, knit 1 and bind this stitch off, then bind off the next 3 stitches with purl *, work from *-* to end of round. The skirt measures approx. 43-45-47-49-51-53 cm = 17"-17¾"-18½"-19¼"-20"-21". |
